    Surgeon reviews

    Still weak

Are you taking all your Vitamins supplements? Are you managing to eat well? Did they check your Iron? You are still only 19 days out and probably still recovering from what was a major operation. It's good they could not find anything sinister. I hope you start to better soon. Xx

    Help question about hunger

I was going to say that even thirst can mimic or feel like hunger but Lilboo already said. She makes some very good points. Xx

    February Surgeries

Hiya Great news...just one month countdown. My op is one week today and I have been doing the pre op diet for 5 weeks. By the 29th it will have been 6 weeks. I have been doing two high Protein shakes (Syntrax Nectar) that I make into Frappes, then a salad with lean meat. Three days prior to surgery I have to do all liquid for two days and of course nil by mouth after midnight on the 28th. You know what I'm dreading most? The Magnesium Citrate that I have to take on the 27th...yuk! Oh well...the things we have to do!...lol Anyway...all the best... Xx
  7. I just bought one huge tub of Caltrate (chalky type) chewable tablets...read that these particular tablets can block the absorption of my other drugs...so I gave them to my husband. He is doing ok with them and swears it has helped his ailments. So I go out and buy large bags of Caltrate (fudge like) chews in chocolate flavour and vanilla flavour. So now I just read this: When you choose a Calcium supplement, make sure you get calcium citrate, not calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is often cheaper, but unfortunately gastric bypass patients cannot absorb it because they lack stomach acid. Did you guys know this? Now I have to try source calcium citrate.... Not easy, it is?
  8. I could not really add anything better than what the girls have said above other than it won't hurt to talk to a bariatric surgeon, find out what operation will suit you. The only other thing I would say is that a lot of us here that have other conditions or co-morbidities of varying severities. A lot of us know what it's like to bare the hopelessness of being hit with several conditions all at once. Tackling the weight, getting it to a level where you will be much healthier to cope with and withstand your other conditions. I just wanted to send you a hug. You are not alone. Xx

    5 days out

Hi Chris Just wanted to say hi and welcome. I can't give you much advice really because my op is on the 29th Jan. I think the clear liquid foods are fine right now. But the children's pain relief meds will not be sufficient for you and yes might cause you dumping syndrome. I must admit, I'm not looking forward to that first week after surgery...but at least time passes, so hopefully it will feel like it's passing quickly...lol. Hope you feel better soon X

    3 yrs out

I just wondered what you meant by "incision still open". Have you already had a tummy tuck and it's still open? Hope alls ok. Xx
  13. Thank you everyone. All the above look good. Have any of you tried Building Blocks range of Vitamins and calcium citrate products? Xx
  14. Why not ask them straight up. Get them to put it it writing too. You have the support and records of your general physician. Surely, his or her objection to this six month regime should carry some weight...(pardon the pun). They know the date you started this and they know your start out weight and BMI so surely your start BMI will count. Hope you get the answers and the outcome you want. Xx
  15. Do you mind if I ask why you are having the bypass? I was sleeved 3 1/2 years ago and would like the info for reference if you don't mind discussing. First of all Georgia I would like to say that most of the time the sleeve is an excellent WLS. In my case I lost all restriction and also developed much more severe reflux. I had an upper endoscopy and it was noted that my stomach was a normal size. I gain back so much of my weight as a result. I have a large opening and my stomach is twisted further down. This put me in ER twice over one weekend and the pain was unbearable. You are 3 years out so it looks like your sleeve is a complete success... X
  16. This is probably a silly question and I think I already know the answer but: If you diet prior to your surgery including milk or liver reducing diet here...will your loss be slower than someone who had not dieted??? You know like the amazing loses after one or two weeks of a diet. Now I think if you were dieting (any form of conventional diets) prior to your surgery, it would have a huge impact on the speed of weight loss after WLS...I think your loss after surgery would be far slower but maybe steadier. Any experience of this anyone? (Post op people) Any ideas? (Pre or post op)
  17. Hiya I always gain weight after anesthesia and seem to retain Water. I'm sure your weight will shift in the right direction very soon. What was the post op diet that were given? X
  18. SnowDaisy

    Liver shrink diet

Me too...consisted of two protein shakes and a very light salad with 4oz of lean meat...lots of water.
  19. Thank you ladies. I was just curious...When I had the Sleeve a few years ago I didn't have to do the pre-op diet at all so my weight loss was really good the week after surgery. Now I'm having the bypass and having to do a pre-op diet I wondered if it will be at a reduced rate because I'm already two weeks in. Maybe a lot changes at the point of the operation itself, like metabolic rates, hormonal production, or loss or inactivation of some hormones like grehlin. X
  20. Say for example I am doing Cambridge Diet right now, as you know it's a very low calorie diet...I was 246lb and now 238lb and it came off quickly due to it being the first few days...loss of glycogen and Water mostly...but I will still continue to have a good weight loss on this type of diet. Now, say I lose 42 lbs in just over 3 months, say by 10th January(very possible with CD) and my surgery is is on the 10th of January...I would imagine that as I have already lost a lot of weight my rate of loss has to be slower than if I had not dieted at al prior to surgery. Xx

    Scared

I think it's absolutely normal to feel scared. I'm having surgery on the 29th January and I too am scared. As for the pre op diet...what did your team tell you to have? I am on two high Protein powder shakes per day with one very light meal of lean meat and salad. Wishing you lots of luck X

    Scheduled for January 28th!

Are you hypothyroid? Did they have to increase your meds? All the best. X

    Surgery in 5 hours...

If they couldn't keep you hospital in the UK, they'd have a district nurse come out to you every day to dress it...don't they have something like that for you?
  24. SnowDaisy

    Surgery in 5 hours...

Good god, that's horrendous. Do you think you should see the hospital patient liaison officer? Tell them you are considering legal action. Won't your insurance company do something for you? Stand up to the medical staff that are treating you so nonchalantly...it's your life, fight for it. If you were in the UK, you'd be hospitalised until they got that infection under control....and it sounds very much like neither you or your sweet sister are qualified to dress that type of wound. I hope you get well soon...stay strong. X

    Ignorant people

Sometimes it's concern hidden in those off handed remarks. And sometimes it's really how people who don't understand feel about WLS and it's recipients, but in this case it's jealously...pure and simple. Don't worry about her...she may learn to eat her own words one day... All the best. X
