  1. My husband and I both had surgery in February 2010. We were both self pay, and it has been the best thing we have ever done for ourselves. We would do it all over again, no question at all. He has lost 100#, I have lost 90#, we are both about 20# from goal. It doesn't feel like a diet, we really can eat whatever we want, we just don't want very much. We have lost weight many times before only to gain it back plus more, year after year.

  2. I just got home from having an endoscopy and balloon dilation. The problem I had been having with food sticking, and the vomiting was because of this stricture. I probably shouldn't have waited so long, but my doctor said all the surgery sites are well healed. It might have something to do with the large hiatal hernia repair that was done at the same time as the VSG. Now maybe I can eat a little more variety of foods. It was getting to be all very soft and mostly liquids. It has been great for weight loss! I hope this helps.


  3. I am riding exercise bike several times a week. Hubby is not too active, as far as exercise, he needs a hip replacement, he walks with 2 canes. We are both working full-time. We have found with our diet that dry foods can be difficult to eat. So I have to trying to find recipes that are moist, with lots of flavor, high in Protein, low in carbs. I love to cook, so it's all been done with some adaptation. The problem is all the leftovers.:biggrin: food that is already cut up small is ideal, and can be frozen, or be reheated. Such as Soups or stews, meatballs.


  4. My husband and I went through the journey together in February, 2010. Best thing we have ever done. We have always gained and lost our weight together over the years. We have been married 30 years. We are both approaching a weight loss of 50 pounds. It is great to go through this together, I only have to cook one meal, we can support each other, we go to appointments together, and we really understand what the other one is going through.:thumbup:


  5. I am following my instructed diet very closely, did you notice my weight loss? I am very careful to get in my recommended Proteins and fluids, but I am allowed now to be adding in some carbs. But I have not been able to get very many down. I work with a nutritionist closely in my program, so far seeing them monthly. Being careful to chew, and trying to eat slower. My volume of food at one time is about 1/2 cup.


  6. I am just a little over 2 months post-op VSG. Having difficulties several times a week with food getting stuck, nothing I can really do but but vomit. Then after a few minutes can continue on with my meal. It almost seems like something just clamps shut. I thought at first it was just certain food, so I avoided them, all breads, tortillas, etc. Now it is a lot of things. Plan to discuss with surgeon at 3 month check up, no one else here on this board seems to be having anything similar.:thumbup:


  7. My husband and I both had VSG done in Feb. I had mine on the 18th, he had his 4 days later. We are both doing pretty well. He has lost almost he same amount of weight as me. I am having a little more difficultly with food getting stuck. Working on smaller bites, avoiding breads mostly that cause the problem. Has worked well to have done the surgery at the same time, especially since we no longer have children at home. We are watching the amount of carbs we are taking in, and so far haven't had a problem with stalls.:thumbup:


  8. Slow and steady seems to be working for me. I been very consistently losing between 3-5 pounds per week. I'm just not able to eat that much, so it really has not been hard. Just met with the exercise physioligist, as part of our program, so I really haven't begun exercising on a regular basis that much yet. It seems I am only eating about a 1/4 of what I was before. It has felt good to start getting rid of clothes I'll never need again.:001_tongue:


  9. I thought I was the only one. I rarely finish what I think I can eat. I get full so fast. I have had many episodes of being very uncomfortable because it is just sitting in my throat, and I have vomited a couple times. I have really learned to slow down, and have started chopping my food up before I even start eating. My weight loss is going great though. And for someone you never was full before it is quite a change. I have taken to very small meals, and Snacks. And that way I can get in more Protein through the day. I am thankful that my husband is going through this with me, and that we are followed closely by a nutritionist at our clinic.:sleep0:


  10. My husband and I both had VSG 4 days apart in Febuary. I went first, and did great. Was back to work by day 6. My husband did things a little slower. Was off work 2 weeks. Sure makes it easier to think about meals.

    It is just the two of us. We are now progressing to more normal foods, so I can cook and pack leftovers for lunches. Our grocery bill has gone down significantly. It is the best thing we have ever done for ourselves. I would highly recommend doing it together, talk with your surgeon and work out the details with the help you have available.:)


  11. I am over 2 weeks post op, I have no cravings or hunger, much to my surprise. I am still having problems eating too fast, now that I am introducing solids it is becoming apparent why it is so important. One night, I had an episode of extreme discomfort, so now I have slowed way down, taken smaller bites, and one thing I don't do is overeat.:)
