Yay I have DATE and, DRAMA = [.

Wow. I would definitely be pissed about that! Some people don't know how to mind their own business. :001_unsure: My step-father's ex-wife read about my surgery from snooping around my mom's facebook and told my cousin (that one cousin I cannot stand!!!) about it. I guess for me it wasn't that I was trying to keep it a secret from my family members in particular, but the fact that someone who had no business talking about me in the first place...bleh. Don't let the ignorance of other people get you down! You, and your doctor, and your immediate family know what's best for you so don't let anyone else get in your way!
  2. I did ask about how many patients he has sleeved who ended up with a leak. Something I never thought to ask before coming to this forum. But, the answer was 1 ever and that individual, according to my surgeon, took matters into his own hands, advanced his diet too quickly, and developed a leak a month or so post-op. So I wasn't worried. :001_unsure: I think that's about it! If you're concerned about nausea afterwards, you could also ask if they could prescribe something ahead of time so you have it when you get home if you need it. That's what they did with my pain meds and I know some docs do nausea meds as a standard procedure, but mine didn't & I ended up with a fit of dry heaves the night I got home so it may have come in handy.:blushing:

    Concerned

My dietitian says I should be drinking 3 shakes a day...and that's too much for me. I'm only a week out but am now able to get in 2 shakes a day, which when made with skim milk are each 32g of protein = 64g of protein just for my two shakes. One shake = 8 oz. I think she told me I need between 60 and 90 grams of protein a day and so I think the two shakes is working great for me, I'm over the minimum but I'm not struggling to get them in. Have you found one you like or just one you tolerate? That might make a difference as well.

    Life without the Scale

Wow congratulations on your amazing losses! I think that's an awesome idea and even for me personally would relieve a lot of stress. I have love/hate relationship with the scale (but it's getting better!)...but I couldn't do it. I think I'm of the personality where I NEED something to obsess over or I'm not motivated. But wow, that takes a lot of extra willpower. Keep it up, Mrs Sasaki! :biggrin0:

VSG 1/14 in Dallas with Dr Kim

You're in my thoughts! Good luck and welcome to the losers bench by the time you see this.
  8. I'm only 6 days out, and I can already say "IT IS SO WORTH IT!" Yes I was nauseous (I didn't have it too bad compared to some) and was in pain a few times but...:001_smile: I'm already feeling much better and just thinking about the fact that in the coming months I'm going to become so much healthier and have so much more energy makes it all worth it. I figure...had I not gotten sleeved, I risked diabetes, heart disease, heart attacks just a few years down the road (and I'm 21 years old!). So the 4 days or so of pain I had to deal with is a teeny tiny price to pay. Really, don't let it make you think twice because the only regret you could have is NOT having the sleeve. As long as you have a good surgeon who you trust, I say go for it! :001_tongue: I'm really only saying all this because I felt the same way just a week ago, especially the night before & morning of surgery, but it is SO much nicer on the other side! :w00t:
  9. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow as you get sleeved! Hope everything is uneventful & wish you a speedy recovery! See you on the other side.:001_smile:

    On the right track !!!

Wow that sounds great! Right now the thought of that much working out makes me do this :001_smile: but not too far away & I will hopefully be right there with ya! Let us know how the Zumba classes go, I've been thinking about trying a class in May when I'm done with college and can get my YMCA membership.

    Food for thought

That looks delicious! I should have some venison coming to my freezer here shortly from my button buck & in a month or two I will actually be able to eat this! :001_smile: Thanks for sharing the recipe, Tiffy!

    Worst pre-op diet ever!!!

My doctor's reasoning was not to make me lose weight quickly right before surgery but he explained it as the lack of carbohydrates in my personal pre-op diet would shrink some of the fat off of the liver. My surgery ended up only taking 35 minutes and he said I must have done well on the pre-op because they had no problems trying to get to the stomach around/over the liver. I don't know if that really helps & I know it's definitely not data, but that's what my doc said. :001_smile:
  13. Hi! Welcome to VST! :) I just had my sleeve done last Monday. I bet the semester will fly by for you! I had my first meeting in July and had to schedule surgery for January so it didn't mess with college. Good luck & hope to hear more from you! :)

  14. How long were you in surgery? 35 minutes!!! :w00t: Did you have a private room post op? Yep! How many days did you stay? Just overnight At the worst point, how would you rate your pain? (o-10 with 0 being the least amt of pain) I would say a 9, but it didn't last very long. It was right after I got to my room from recovery & they said I had to wait before I could have any more painkillers. What kind of pain killers did they use? Did they work? I had liquid vicodin and also some kind of IV line painkiller. They worked well! What did you do to pass the time? (I don't like to sit for long and I will walk the hospital all day long if they let me) Slept off and on, watched a lot of tv, I walked quite a bit. I was so irritated when I got out of surgery because they made me wait 4 hours before I could walk. :001_tongue: What did you take for entertainment? Anything? I took a book and only read about 5 pages. How did you pack and what would you leave at home if you were to do it over again? I packed chapstick which was a lifesaver. If I did it over, I wouldn't have packed gas-x strips (just because they wouldn't let me use them), deodorant (didn't use it), and I guess that's about it. :biggrin0:

    I am FREEZING

With the wind chill factor, it's been like -15 to -20 degrees all week here. :scared0:I thought maybe I was going crazy...glad to know there's a reason I'm cold besides just the weather. I used to never get cold & I'm only 4 days out! :biggrin0:

    Clear liquids

I have the same cranberry juice! So nice for a change from water! :laugh0::biggrin0: Though my diet specifies limiting to 4 oz. of juice a day. Not sure why??
  17. Hi Shawna! My name is Randi. I started full liquids yesterday afternoon & since then I've been eating a lot of thinned cream soups (strained) and I've also had a couple oz. of pudding with a little sugarfree vanilla syrup. The popsicles are good too! I have trouble with the water, I don't know if it's because it's so cold to me now? The warm broth seems to go down much better. Most of my "drinking" liquids have been broth & some fruit h2o drinks. I've been trying not to weigh myself, but I'm getting anxious! Congrats on the 4 pounds! Sounds like you're off to a great start! :) I'm being impatient, can't wait to get to mushies & have some food to CHEW! haha. :)

  18. I've been doing not so good on the protein shakes...and I need to be getting more liquids in in general, but I'm working on it. :) It "sounds" like alot, but so does what I've been eating to me. From what I've read around here, it seems like the "fullness" feeling really starts when we get to more solid food. I think the liquidy type things just seem to run straight through our tummies! I bet you will be glad to start mushies. :) I've really been craving refried beans w/ cheese and peanut butter too, but I know it'll be awhile for those.

  19. I know that feeling! Be careful though because I know my surgeon for one said he would NOT have done the surgery if I had gained any weight at all in the pre-op diet. Enjoy the last few days of yummies! :hurray:
  20. Hi Barb! I'm feeling much better today. Pain is very manageable with my pain medication & no more nausea! Going to go walking tomorrow, didn't make it today, we got over 7 inches of snow where I am! How are you doing/which stage of the diet are you on? I started full liquids today and am LOVING the soup. :)

  21. I haven't started losing yet :blushing: BUT my dietitian's stipulations for choosing protein shakes includes that it must be less than 5g of carbs per serving. And also low sugar & low fat of course.
  22. Woot! Congratulations on the date!
  23. By the way Shanda, thank you for mentioning theCityDoll - I really like the format of actually watching her journey.
