    I'm hungry

loosing I'm with you!!! When I get hungry since I'm only 7 days out, I drink more water and other liquids. I'm taking in almost 90 ozs of water and fluids a day, plus my 3 protein shakes (which are made 1 scoop unjury and 4oz of milk).
  5. I checked with my surgeon regarding pills and capsules. They said, no problem having sythroid (pill), B-Complex (2 capsules) and Omeprazole (1 Capsule) and chewable multi vitamin and chewable calcium. I haven't had any issues whatsoever and I'm 8 days out from surgery. I try to spread the capsules out, so they're not sitting in my tummy all at once.
  6. Excited - I actually am having the opposite problem, haven't had the runs at all...I'm going to start adding metamucil fiber to my shakes tomorrow. I hope that will help things move along...
  7. Keys - thank you so much for writing what happened to you. I have been dwelling on this as well since I did it..Not only was I silly for drinking all the soup, but the amount of calories and carbs I consumed was outrageous....I've been reading people are having all kinds of soups, but I never thought to start looking at the calories and carbs. When I did I really freaked out! Well tomorrow is a new day...
  8. Excited - I've been able to drink quite a bit since surgery...Even in the hospital, I told my surgeon how I wasn't having any problems with liquids, he said, wait until you get to solids....everyone is built differently I guess. keep on sippin!
  9. I suppose I better stick with 4 ounces too...I'm sure my belly is full, but my head is saying this is yummy, have more....
  10. Can someone help me out...I made Campbells tomato soup with 4oz skim milk and 4 oz. Water....I can easily (after 1 week from surgery), drink all of it in one sitting....That's 275 calories, 10 Protein and 57.5 carbs..... Should I be measuring and only consuming a half cup at this point based on the above high numbers... I'm just not full from such a small quantity. Help please!
  11. Tiff - what do you mean you have to time your calcium around other meds?
  12. I use the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins. The calcium chewables are ok, but the berry flavored Multivitamins remind me of sweet tarts...I could easily eat too many of them...they're a treat... Does anyone know if you're supposed to space out the vitamins at all?
  13. It's interesting how everyone really does heal differently. I wasn't in much pain at all. I had surgery Wednesday, got home Friday and now it's Monday and today is the most painful day of all with the larger incision pulling...I also went back to work today (work from home at a desk) and I think all the sitting added extra pressure to the incision...I'm sure tomorrow will be better then today.... Feel better everyone!
  14. I can't believe I knocked myself out to lose 20lbs on the preop diet, and when I get home from the hospital I find that I gained 13lbs...This is nuts!!! I know it's only water, blah, blah, blah, but it's killing me knowing I still have 7 more pounds to lose just to get back to pre-surgical weight....OY!
  15. When I got nervous or started second guessing myself, I went to my closet....I would put on the clothes that used to fit and now I can't even put on. I would then look in the mirror and remind myself that long term, I want to look good and looking good, makes me feel good..Also, I would look at pics of myself and again, the brutal honesty was staring back at me....This type of shock therapy worked for me everytime I started to think, oh I'm not that big, or oh I can try Weight Watchers again, or oh what about all the great big meals I will miss....Hope this helps you a little bit.
  16. I had to do a 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I lost 20lbs and doc could tell by the size of my liver I didn't cheat....
  17. My surgery was scheduled for 2:30pm on wed and ended up not happening until 6:30pm wed night. It was a long wait at the hospital. Entering recovery I was nauseous, they gave me medicine and it was gone instantly. I had some pain and again they gave me medicine and it was gone instantly. I had a tough time breathing, that took 2 hours and then I felt great....Got to my room at 3am and was ready to hang out and watch TV or read. Realizing the time, I decided it was best to lay back and rest. On Thursday, I went for a swallow study, saw my sleeve and was cleared for 1 oz of liquids every hour. By 10:30 I was sitting up in a chair and starting to walk around. I did very well Thursay and even better this morning....Right before I was supposed to leave the hospital I felt really uncomfortable and completely weak and exhausted. The nurse gave me some tylenol with codeine, it knocked me out for an hour and after the rest I felt much better about coming home...Now I'm home and just chillin' out. I realized walking is good, but don't overdue. I'm finding the liquids going down ok, I'm 2 ozs. every hour. Tomorrow I start back on Protein shakes...can't wait.....yummy... So far the recovery is not as bad as I anticipated....To everyone who is considering the surgery, so far so good, it isn't too bad at all, ....
  18. Loosing - Congrats and you've inspired me to venture out to the post office today. It's 20degrees out, but I want to walk and my house isn't providing me with much space to roam around in...I'm glad there's a few of us here going through all this at the same time.....
  19. Bella - no problems sleeping on my back in my own bed. I used 3 pillows to keep myself propped up so my incisions weren't pulling. Other then that, no issues at all....I kept moving my lefs around when I was sleeping because of the whole blod clot thing, but that's just me being over cautious....
  20. Cheryl - my surgery was wednesday evening and now it's Saturday morning. Starting on Thursday I could drink more then what the doc allowed me, but I followed his 1 oz an hour rule...Today, I'm allowed 3oz of shake for Breakfast, 3 oz. for lunch and 3 oz. for dinner, plus 32-64 oz of clear liquids throughout the day. Suffice it to say, I will have no problem getting this down...I just had breakfast and forced myself to stop even though I knew I could drink more. I'm sipping Water instead to remain hydrated and to dump all the excess Fluid weight I gained in the hospital. The doc told me I should have no trouble with fluids, it's real food that is going to be tough. I do find if I stand while I'm drinking my shakes, it goes down much smoother and with a lot less gas/pressure...I hope this helps!
  21. do you take a pill or capsule? does it bother you at all?
  22. Thanks everyone!!! Bella - tonight will be my first night home in my own bed, so I will have to get back to you. I typically sleep on my back so it wasn't a problem in the hospital...Tylenol with codeine is working really nicely....
  23. In less then 3 hours I leave for the hospital. I was excited to see I lost exactly 20lbs in 2 weeks on the pre-op diet. I'm not super nervous, but a little concerned that I am making the right long term decision. I don't want to regret this 20 years from now, but I suppose there's no way of knowing that today. I am confident that if I don't do something I will go back to my gluttonous ways. Even though I am healthy in every other way, but obesity, my previous way of eating and drinking was a fast path to many future health issues, social issues (withdrawal from others, activities and work), and most likely a pre-mature death. I'm keeping the long term call in focus, keeping my eye on the prize and pushing forward... I had a pre-op NSV happen 2 days ago: We are planning a trip to Spain in October for my 5 year wedding anniversary and this is the first time in my entire life where the thought of the airplane ride, the chairs, the clothes, etc...are not even a nervous thought in my mind.... The weight of those worries used to burden me and take away from my complete enjoyment in life. I'm reminding myself how those worries will be gone soon and that is what I am using as my anchor today to keep me very calm, cool and collected this morning.... Talk to everyone on Friday, when I'm back home!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all the great support!!!
  24. I had my gallbladder removed when I was 19 back in 1983. It was done open because they didn't have laproscopic at the time. I have never missed it since it has been removed, and I don't miss the pain it was giving me prior to surgery. My only thought is see if he can do it laproscopically. The open procedure for me was extremely painful, carried a six week recovery time and the scar tissue that was created from it was so unbelievable that 2 years ago when I went to have the band put in they couldn't see through all the scar tissue...Get it removed, because it will get worse just make sure you are very well informed by your doc. Good Luck!
