THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS. I WENT FOR MY CONSULT AND MY DOCTOR IS NOT WORKING WITH THE AP. HE SAID THAT THERE IS ONE COMING OUT IN 2008 THAT HE WILL SWITCH TO. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT SO I WILL BE GETTING THE VG BAND. I HOPE I AM NOT MAKING A MISTAKE BY WANTING TO HAVE THE SURGERY SOONER.

I was told by the surgeon who does this technique that he sews the port to the fascia and then sews the mesh around the port to the fascia also because the stitches can easily come undone from the port and then the port will be at odd angles for a fill. He said that the port can flip from stitches being loose then another surgery woul be needed to correct it. The mesh is just a second line of defense so it will hold the port in place even if a stitch does come loose.

I am going for my consultation on Tuesday July 24th and I am interested about this new band. I went to the link that Band Chick gave us . Thanks for that. I tried to look up more info and there is not much out there in why it is so much bettter. On the site it says that it is 360 degrees but I thought the current one is also. Is the band thinner or the port better? Why would I want this band as opposed to the current band. I also thought that the current band can be deflated all the way which allows for pregnancy or illness also. Is that true or not? I thought I had really researched this lap band and now I realize I don't know anything again.

I am considering Dr. Nguyen for my lap band surgery and was wondering if anyone had the lapband surgery performed by him. Would anyone recommend him?

I am a pre lap band surgery patient and went for my consult last month. I have a beautiful 3 year old boy but have put on a ton of weight. I would like one more child so I asked my doctor about getting pregnant with the band and he said it was better to get the band, lose the weight and then get pregnant. I have a few questions though. If you can't take pills then how do you take prenatal vitamins? I also understand that vomitting can produce pressure which can result in slippage. What happens if I vomit for the first 12 weeks? I ate saltine crackers with my son but I understand that they are not advised with the band. If I immediately have it unfilled then would it be ok? Would it really be the same stomach capacity that I had pre surgery? Can the port get displaced by the nine month stomach? Did you guys have any problems? If you had to do it all over again would you guys get the lapband before or after the baby is born. Thanks for your input!!!!!!

Dear Jacqui, Thanks for replying. I was pretty nauseaus for the first 12-14 weeks but did not vomit alot, however, I lived on saltine crackers and prenatal vitamins for a while. The doctor said that saltine crackers were not ok so I don't know what else could help with the nausea. I have to say that the thought of looking really cute pregnant is a bonus and I WOULD look like a beached whale if I did not lose the weight. I also gained 27 lbs. in Water weight last pregnancy so the thought of being 43 lbs. heavier now is scary to me. Thanks again for responding.

HELP.........Need M.D. in Los Angeles area
lepez replied to lepez's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dear Lab Rat, Congratulations on almost reaching your goal ! Have you had any problems with your lap band ? Do you know if he has a low rate of complications? Thanks for giving me a lead on another Dr. to check out. -
I have done alot of research and was pleased to find Dr. Carson Liu. BUT my Blue Cross PPO insurance will not cover the procedure to be performed by him. I am really upset about it and can't afford to cash pay. Do you know anyone else in the L.A. area that has done as many lap band procedures and has as few complications as Dr.Liu?

Dear Areellady (Deanna), Does your hubby have a brother? Men like yours are in short supply and I wish I could feel the way you do. It is really sad to go year after year wishing that I could feel the way you do. Count your blessings and thank the Lord that you found someone like him!

MysticstarD- Wow! You have lived through alot of heartache in your short 32 years. I hope you do not blame yourself for the rape . Know that my heart goes out to you and I wish I could give you a big hug right now. It takes alot of courage to talk about being raped. Maziemommy-I understand how you feel. it gets really old to try to make the advances and get rejected. I too miss the hugs, kisses, petting and just the feeling of being touched. I make sure to spend some of the household money on massages because I deserve it!!!!! Hopefully all of us will get the love and touch that we deserve.

Hello Nume130, I unsubscribed to all of the threads because I went into the rant and rave section and was horified to find out that people really are annoyed if the thread changes directions. I guess that is why I never got a response in there. I am new to this and I don't need to feel like I am the blacksheep for responding to someones comments. Thank you for redirecting me to this area. I can't believe I opened up like that because I am embarrassed and ashamed . When I got married a short 7 years ago I weighed 156 and now I am 228 ( I can't believe i admitted that). The sex did not stop because of the weight but the weight is a result of my feeling so empty and alone. I am an outgoing person and have a lot of friends. I am funny and can always liven up a party BUT I am so lonely. Although I have a lot of "friends" I feel like I can't really talk to anyone. I have been waiting approval for the lap band and need to turn my life around. It sickens me to think about divorce but I can't live like this either. I don't want my son to grow up thinking that my marriage is a role model. Thank you for letting me express that.

Mr. Yo, I understand about being married and remembering the good old days. Just thinking about it makes me wish my husband was like that. -
Hello Puddin, I forgot to comment on something. You mentioned in a past posting that you felt more emotionally stable when you were fat. I don't know you personally but I believe that you had an addiction to food to fill up your empty feeling. Now that you are thin, I believe that you still feel empty and you are trying to fill it up with an addiction to feeling physically pretty and having men desire you sexually. Don't get me wrong, you have worked extremely hard and have earned the right to enjoy your new body. But please don't do it at the detriment and torment of your soul. You are also pretty on the inside and I hope you let that part of you shine also. Good Luck in your journey.

Wow Puddin, You give me inspiration and hope that after I get banded I too can really live life. You also have reinforced that the lap band is not magically going to make me lose weight and solve all of my issues. Through you I see that diet AND EXERCISE will have to become part of my daily routine. The lap band will help me with the diet part but I realize now that I will have to really work on my exercise routine AND my self esteem. When you said " You Be Who You Want To Marry" and " You Be THOSE Qualities".......it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have lost alot of weight in the past and had struggled with self esteem when I received alot of attention from men. Since then I have gotton married and have a beautiful little 3 year old boy. I have gained about 70 lbs. since the wedding and the marriage is hanging by a thread. The marriage is not working for many reasons and my weight isn't the reason but instead it is the side effect. I initially wanted to have the lap band so that if I get divorced I will have a chance to have someone fall in love with me again but reading what you wrote made me realize that I really need to work on myself if I want to feel love again. It would be a shame for me to lose the weight and STILL not feel confortable in my own skin ( even if it is saggy). Your writings make me realize that I need to lose the weight Because I love myself and Not so someone else can love me. I need to feel comfortable in my skin at this weight and at my goal weight. Thank you for not just sharing the physical person you are on the outside but also being able to open up and share the person you are on the inside...struggles and all. I don't know you but I feel like you are really special. Thank You!

Regarding sex after a little weight loss...
lepez replied to neveragain's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't put so much pressure on yourself. It seems like you are really anxious to have sex just to prove that you can. It makes a huge difference when you love the person that you are with. You will feel much more comfortable to discuss birth control options with a person that you love. Oral sex can be really great if you are worried about pregnancy . They also make condoms that are really fun like ELEXA that vibrate. You are young and will have many years of extremely pleasurable sex , so stop focussing on the negative and enjoy holding hands, kissing , foreplay and maybe even oral sex for a while. Enjoy yourself! -
