  1. I am one week out today and feeling a bit down. I came home from MX with a cold/sinus thing. On top of that, I have an infection in one of my incisions. Plus just trying to heal up from surgery. I have a low grade fever off and on. It's just really hard to know if my fever is from the cold, from my infection or if I am suffering a leak. I keep freaking out there I'm going to rip my stomach open. The cold is causing me to sneeze and although it doesn't really hurt to do so, it scares me to death. How long until I no longer have to worry about my stomach leaking? I know I'd be feeling so much better about everything if I didn't have all these other things going on at the same time. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. Happy Thanksgiving all.

    Microwave Pumpkin Custard

Bored to death of eating the same things. Being on a full liquid diet, I read that I can eat custard. I've been craving pumpkin since Thanksgiving. So I figured I'd look up a good pumpkin custard recipe. Here is what I found and it got really good reviews. I'm going to try it tonight and I'll let ya know. Ingredients 1 cup pudding mixture among four 5-oz microwave safe custard cups. Microwave on medium (50 percent) 2 to 3 minutes or until puddings are barely firm. (Do not overcook; puddings will thicken and firm more upon cooling.). Set aside to cool at least 10 minutes. 8. Serve warm or cover and refrigerate until cold. Cream cheese potato soup

This recipe is so easy and delicious! I was sad I couldn't eat more of it. Ingredients 4 cups chicken broth 4 cups peeled and cubed potatoes 1/4 cup minced onion (I left it out for now) 1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt 1/4 teaspoon white pepper 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, cut into chunks 1 Combine broth, potatoes, onion, and spices. 2 Boil on medium heat until potatoes are tender. 3 Smash a few of the potatoes to release their starch for thickening. 4 Reduce to low heat. 5 Add cream cheese. 6 Heat, stirring frequently, until cheese melts.

    Microwave Pumpkin Custard

I tried this and it was really good. Tasted like pumpkin pie filling but not quite as sweet. I had to cook it quite a bit longer than what was recommended but otherwise a keeper recipe. Today I made a cream cheese potato Soup. WOW it was so good I was actually very disappointed I could only eat about 1/4-1/2 cup of it lol. Be happy to share the recipe if anyone wants it. So so easy to make. Even my husband loved it and he's very picky.

    Is this hunger pangs?

I got my stitches out today. The infection is clearing up nicely but she got the results back from the culture and the antibiotics I was taking was not the best for the type of infection so she switched me to something else. I asked her about the pain I was feeling and acid and she said thats probably what it is. She's just a family dr and doesn't really know very much about this type of surgery. I bought some pepcid a few days ago and she told me just to take that and if I need something else she will write me a prescription. After taking the pepcid for a few days, the pain does seem to be better. I was only taking one but she told me to take 2 a day so I'll try that.

    Is this hunger pangs?

My incision is looking so much better. I go to the dr tomorrow and I will get my stitches out. No other problems except the discomfort I feel when I eat sometimes. Like something is getting caught. I haven't wrote a post about my visit to Mexico yet but I do plan to. The weight loss seems slow to me. I've lost about 9 lbs since surgery. I used to be a pretty quick loser but I guess since I'm older now and so much yo-yo dieting, it's a lot harder. As for was it worth it... It's to early to say right now but so far, I'd say yes, it's worth it. I bought some pepcid and today was a bit better with the burning. I'll ask my dr for something better tomorrow for the acid.
  7. This might sound unusual but it's a concern for me. Not a huge one mind you. So, I have looked through a lot of before and after pictures. Not here really but in general over the years. Amazing transformations. The one thing i've noticed a lot. The people that have lost a lot of weight sometimes look 10-20 years older. Now dont get me wrong, I realize losing the weight is mostly for health reasons but I worry that when I do lose the weight, will I look older? Has this happened to anyone here and how do you deal with it? Do you regret it?
  8. I'm 8 days out from having the sleeve today and so far no real problems with it. Some acid burning sensation that usually goes away when I eat. Today though, it's the opposite. Whenever I eat, it burns. Every bite I take. It almost feels like heartburn but only when I take a bite. I'm eating the foods I should be. Have not cheated or anything like that. In fact I'm babying my sleeve because I'm paranoid about getting a leak. Anyone else have this feeling? Just wondering if I should be concerned. As I said, it just started today.

    Is this normal?

The more I read about what I'm feeling, I'm starting to fear it's a stricture. Anyone here had one?

    Is this normal?

I noticed when I was eating some egg drop soup (homemade) today, every swallow hurt. It almost felt like there was a barrier and once it got past that it was fine. I was burping and my tummy was gurgling a lot as well so many it was a gas bubble. It has me really concerned though. I dont want eating to became something I totally dread because of pain.
  11. Gingin33

    Is this normal?

I'm on full liquids. It is allowed by my dr at this stage. So by taking small bites, it could be yogurt, oatmeal, pudding...
  12. Gingin33

    Is this normal?

I'm not. I have a Dr. appointment on Monday and I will for sure ask about that.
  13. Gingin33

    What if's?

Yum, I'd love to see the recipe too!

    Is this hunger pangs?

No I'm not and that's the first I've heard of that. Can you recommend something?

Cannot stress enough, gas-x strips! 2-3 boxes of them. They were a life saver.

    trouble with stitch infected

Dr said it looks like the antibiotics are doing the trick and I wont need to have it reopened and drained, thank goodness! I'll see her again on Monday to make sure its still healing nicely and to get my stitches out. Thanks everyone.

    trouble with stitch infected

I have an incision that is infected as well. It's not because of a stitch still being in there. I'm only 5 days post-op. My pcp gave me a shot in the butt, cultured it, a script for some antibiotics and wants to see me again in the morning to see if they will have to reopen it, drain and pack it. I really hope these antibiotics do the trick.
  19. I'm home now but one of my incisions appears to be infected and i'm running a fever now too. I'm going to my PCP today. Please say a prayer that nothing major happens. So far everything has been great and I just want to keep my good spirits about this.
  20. This will be my last post before my surgery. I keep feeling butterflies. I'm nervous about everything that is going to happen in the next few days, but I'm way excited too! I'm amazed at how fast it got here. I really should be in bed but I have a feeling I will not get much sleep. I just wrote a letter to my family in case something does go wrong. It made me feel very weird to write it but I couldn't go without doing it. Did anyone else do that? I will need to be at the airport first thing in the morning. I'll be spending the night in San Diego and then off for surgery on the 19th. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that day. I'll make sure to post an update as soon as I get home or if at all possible while I'm there. Not sure on that yet. I'm not taking a laptop. Anyway. Wish me luck! Take care everyone and even though I haven't been a member for very long, you've all made me feel welcomed and I've learned a lot. Thanks everyone. Ginny Taylor P.S. I lost 11 lbs pre-op and possibly more by morning considering I couldn't eat yesterday, today or tomorrow. Clear liquids only. My relationship with food is already different and I haven't even had surgery yet.
  21. Hi all. I'm now officially sleeved. It wasnt to bad. The pain has been minimal. The staff is really nice and super cute. I will be heading back home on Monday and I will post more then. Right now I'm ready to suck down some broth. Thanks for all the well wishes!
  22. Because of being fat and having large breasts, almost since I can remember, I've always slept on my tummy. Kind of on my tummy with one leg kicked out and my arm under my pillow so i'm not flat on my face. I cannot sleep on my back at all or I feel like I can't breath and I wake myself up snoring. Sometimes I can sleep on my side but I really sleep so much better on my tummy. Will I not be able to sleep like that again after surgery? I'm worried that I will not be able to sleep. I'm hoping once I lose the weight, I will be able to sleep however I want. Anyone have this same issue?

    My turn 11/19!!!!

Good luck to you! Glad you are calm. I'm having my surgery the same day as you and i'm excited but a bit nervous. I feel a few butterflies here and there but I'm more than ready. Keep us posted!
  24. Hi Robin, welcome to the boards! I haven't had my sleeve yet but I'm scheduled to have it in 2 days. Needless to say, my nerves are a bit frazzled right now. I'm not sure about the out patient VSG but I'd say staying at least over night just to be safe. My husband was very set against me having this when we first talked about it. I've been overweight for 20 years. I used to be anti-WLS. Not for others, but for myself. I remember telling my husband probably 7-8 years ago when I would read about gastric bypass people, "Man! I would never do that. That's crazy". Well about 3 years ago is when I started to consider it for myself. I only looked into the lapband. I knew for me, I couldn't do the bypass. Anyway, I told my husband and he was like, "No way. You can do it on your own". So I agreed I would give it a real effort to do it on my own and I did. I lost 70 lbs in 2 years. Not the fastest loser or anything but I felt really good and thought I had this problem under control finally. But I was just kidding myself. I started to gain the weight back in the last 9 months and I've gained 50 lbs of it back. Just that fast! So I told my husband 3 months ago I wanted to have the VSG. He tried to scare me out of it. Especially going to Mexico. He was not being supportive at all. In fact he was really making me upset with some of the things he was saying to me. I finally sat him down and told him, "I'm doing this with or without your support. I love you and I need you to be by my side for this..." there was a bit more said, but you get the point. I basically told him the things he was saying to me were not nice and in fact I felt they were mean and if he loved me, he would want the best for me. Since then he's completely changed, at least outwordly towards me. He's supportive. He holds me the few times I broke down and cried in fear and assured me that everything will be okay. I think if you talk to your husband and tell him you are doing this for your health, maybe he will be more supportive. I mean, you can't eat cake and drink beer if you are dead from being obese. Ya know? Whatever happens, good luck to you. Sorry this post is so long its just that I can completely relate and i'm sure many others can as well.
  25. I'm having my sleeve done on Thursday. I wish it would hurry up and get here because stressing about it until then is not going so well. Tomorrow I have to take a laxative and then have nothing but Clear liquids for 3 days before my surgery. I fear I will be hungry the whole time. I've been on a pre-op diet for the last week and a half or so it is hasn't really been to bad but then again, Protein seems to fill you up. Clear liquids are not going to contain the protein to make me feel full so I'm a bit worried. Not to mention the fact that I have a plane ride to deal with after taking a laxative and then not having any solid food. That could make for a bad situation. So anyway, I'll probably post again before I leave just to check in but please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you all for your support thus far.
