    Prilosec vs. Prevacid

My sleeve was done on the 8th, and I really feel like I need to be on something. I go in Thursday and will ask the dr. but I am curious. Do most of you who do take something which do you take??? Diane
  2. Hi Everyone, I was sleeved on Feb 8th. I came home on the 10th and I guess everything is going as expected. I am sore but it is getting better. I will be very happy when this drain is gone but I sure see the need for it, I have to empty 2-3 times a day. Here is my question. I am on liquids, and protein drinks. No matter what I put in it comes right out. I know I have heard "liquid in liquid out" but it is still worrying me. My stomach seems to be non stop gurgling and making all kinds of noises and then I have to go to the bathroom. Is this normal? how long does it last? I was wondering if it is from all the air blown inside my stomach? Also, my dr. did not prescribe any prilosec, prevacid? is that weird? should I take it anyways? Thank you for any imput Diane
  3. Well, it is done, my surgery was Monday and it is Friday. I got home Wednesday but felt pretty crappy. I am still very sore, although all in all I feel "better". I am a little jealous reading about people's speedy recoveries and I feel mine is on the slower side but I guess we are all different. He also ended up fixed my hiatial hernia which he originally told me he was leaving alone because it was small but said it was more "moderate to large" when looking at it. I am eat but it seems like everytime I put something in, it gurgles aroud my stomach (making LOUD noises) and then I have to go to the bathroom. Is this normal? and if it is how long does this usually last? Maybe I am being impatient and expecting too much to fast. I was able to get a little protein in, broth, half a container of sugar free jello, and some (about 16 oz) water in today but I can't say it was easy. I am hoping everyone else sleeved this week is doing well. I have been thinking of you all. When I came home I wasn't up to logging on and yesterday my computer was down. Please let me know how you are doing...
  4. Best of Luck Pennie! My surgery is tomorrow at 12:15. I have been on the clear liquids for 3 days now and I am so hungry. Friday was difficult, Sat. better, and today was hard again. My stomach is gurgling all over the place and I want to EAT.... I was thinking today how long it will be before I actually have solid food in my stomach again and it was making me kind of sad. I feel a little emotional today. Not too nervous, although I am sure tomrorow when I get there I will be. I know that the coming weeks will be a challenge and then it will get better. So I need to focus on summer and how much better I will be feeling by then. Good Luck to everyone having their surgery in the coming weeks. I will post when I can Diane
  5. Hi to everyone being sleeved in Feb! My date is Monday and I was feeling calm. The hospital called today to go over all of my info and I can feel my anxiety go up! I know it is normal but I will just be so glad when it is done - and I can move on from the surgery. It is very nerve wracking to think about all the things that can possible go wrong even though you know you are doing the right thing long term. I start my 3 days of clear liquids tomorrow so I know I will be very anxious for Monday morning to get her. My kids are both coming in town (1 in chicago, and 1 in college) to be here :thumbup1: I am going to just try to enjoy the time with them and stop stressing myself but it is easier said than done! I wish everyone the best and I will post an update soon. Diane
  6. Hi! My surgery is also scheduled for February 8th. I am calm at the moment and feel ready, but I have had moments of being anxious and fearful. For now I am just trying to remind myself that this is what I have been working towards. I start low cal diet tomorrow for 5 days and then 3 days prior to surgery clear liquids. I think that will be hard but it needs to be done. I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery and pray we all are safe and successful Diane
  7. I am going to be sleeved on Feb 8th and the worry that keeps going through my head is will I be able to eat enough to work out and not feel crappy or weak. I am an advid exerciser (have been for years despite my weight) and I will definately have a difficult time if I can't eat OR exercise. Has anyone had a problem with this? I know for the first few weeks before I can get enought protein it might be a problem but I am talking about long term...

    Do I really look "sick"?

I think you look beautiful, healthy and happy! I have followed your posts in my process of making a decision and I sure hope I look as "sick" as you one day!
  12. Shanda, Congrats to you! I have so enjoyed listening to your progress and how happy you are. My date is at the beginning of Feb. and I still have so many days of doubt but when I read posts like yours it gives me hope that my life i about to change, it could really happen for me..... You should be so happy and proud! Great job Diane
  13. I think everyone of us feel/felt nervous and anxious, scared, excited - every emotion can think of. I am not having surgery until Feb. and I wish I was going sooner. I feel like I am on a rollercoaster of emotions daily about it. I am committed to it but still feel scared. I don't think we could be human, or for that matter be smart about our health and lives if we weren't thinking about it. Best of luck to you and please post so we know how you are doing

    Yet another Newbie

I just wanted to say that you are completly normal. I have my surgery scheduled for the beginning of Feb. which gives me alot of time to think (I wish I didn't have so much time to wait, but I work in a school and want to have surgery around my break time) I go back and forth between total panic and excitment to get started with a new life. I just keep telling myself that the fears are normal, and I guess the people who really need to worry are the ones who don't take time to think over what they are really doing and what their life will be like after surgery. I have felt reassured by hearing everyone else has the same thoughts as me. Somedays I read something that scares me on here and think "what the hell am I doing to myself", then other days I read someones accomplishments, or how great they feel and think - that will be me someday. We are here to help each other and keep each other strong! Best of luck to you Diane
  17. wow that is alot of changes to go through at one time. I am so sorry for all your adjustments and wish you the best as you transition into your new life. Hope your new normal starts feeling ok for you soon!
  18. as someone who has surgery scheduled in feb. I find it scary! I feel confident until I read something like this.......... I of course know there are risks involved, and things do happen but this scared me.
  19. I went today for my scope (EGD) and although I never heard a word my mom said their findings were small hiatial hernia and much of my stomach was inflamed and they took biopsy. I am a little worried about what that means and what it means to my surgery? any body have something similar?
  20. Thanks for sharing your experience. I love reading everyones stories, it is so helpful.
  21. glad to hear things went well and look forward to hearing your surgery story. Each person's story makes me that much stronger and ready for mine!

I am not sure where to post this question...

Thank you for asking that, I have been wondering the same thing but haven't gotten around to asking...... I have surgery scheduled in Feb and I am worried about it because mine or TERRIBLE, so I am concerned about what will happen...
  23. Hi Everyone, I was just wondering what testing you had to have done pre-op. I have a scope (how was that?) , blood work, chest x-ray, gallbladder ultrasound, physical from my pcp. The surgeon said that a stress test was up to my dr. I am wondering if most have that done? Thanks! Diane
  24. I have made a few posts but wanted to update and say that I have made the decision to go forward with the surgery and I have a date! February 8th. I am excited and nervous. 2010 will be an exciting year for me. I feel very fortunate that I have insurance that will pay 100% of the costs, I know from what I have been reading not everyone is so lucky. Without that I don't think I would be able to do it. I will turn 50 in April, so what a great early birthday gift for myself! Thank you to everyone who posts - I have learned so much, and gotten so much useful information from reading through the posts. Diane:thumbup1:
