    Monday Morning Weigh In

I'm 7 mos. post op and my body is saying No, no, noo, noo, no, no no (like the song) and it's settling right around 160-162. I'd like to lose another 20 pounds, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Screeching halt are the words that come to mind.

    Mexico vs. US surgery

I am one of Dr. Aceves' patients, so I know what I'm talking about. IF he was hiding anything, and I doubt that he is, how would we know? We wouldn't. However, the real patients on here can attest to their complete lack of complications with this surgeon. I don't feel the need to protect or support him; his work stands on its merit. You should do your own research if you are planning on going to Dr. Aceves and not listen to other people anyway. It matters not to me which doctor you choose. I know from the vast number of patients on this board and over on the Yahoo board plus OH, Dr. Aceves is one of the BEST bariatric surgeons in Mexico. A friend of mine just went to him for the sleeve surgery. Before he made his decision he had his USA Kaiser doctor check out Dr. Aceves' reputation, stats, etc., and his doctor gave his blessing on Dr. Aceves. We'll presume that doctors have access to more "insider" information that normal people. Yes, there are good and bad doctors everywhere, with no shortage of bad doctors in the USA. If someone is quoting you "bargain" prices in Tijuana on plastic surgery, gee, guess what? I'd pass on that, wouldn't you? Same with any kind of surgery. There are also excellent plastic surgeons in Mexico -two that I can think of - who do excellent work. You learn these things by word of mouth; these doctors don't advertise cause they don't need to. That's how you know if they're good or not, by the patients who've gone and their results. OK? You've asked and I've answered.

    Monday Morning Weigh In

That's very sweet of you to say Midwestgirl. I'm a work in progress for sure.
  4. No regrets whatsoever. I don't think about food in the same way I thought about it before. Actually I didn't "think" about food, I just ate too much of the wrong food and gained 100 pounds over 10 years. I was just getting bigger every year and finally I said that's enough. I was not overweight all my life like some folks here; that wasn't my issue. So when it came time to wanting to get rid of the weight, it was time. You have to be ready to do it. I researched WLS for about 3-4 years before I became so fed up with myself that I was definitely ready for a change. Now instead of thinking about food and what I'm going to eat, I'm looking at clothes to buy online. If I traded one thing for the other, that's OK, I'll take buying smaller sized clothes any day over a pizza, know what I mean? It feels a lot better.

    Monday Morning Weigh In

I'm 7 months post-op on March 10th. My weight loss has slowed WAY DOWN now. I'm wondering: AT WHAT POINT does your body just say, "Ok, that's it; I'm settling right here and not dropping any more weight?" Let's hear from some long-timers on this question. I was losing at the rate of approx. 10 lbs. a month, then it was taking 6 weeks to lose 10 lbs., now I'm lucky to lose 3-5 lbs. a month. It's getting frustrating and I'm still 25 lbs. away from my high end goal. What to do??:biggrin0:

    Are we messengers?

I think it's a "play it by ear" sort of situation. If you can sense that the guy(s) would be open to the information coming from someone who's actually been there, then go for it. You never know what's going to be appropriate for someone else to hear. Maybe you could slip a note into his "gym" bag........just kidding. Maybe you can make up a badge that says "Ask Me about WLS" and wear that around work..........OK, kidding again. Do what feels right to you and see where it goes. The worst that can happen is the guy tells you to get away from him, ya know? Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :thumbup1:
  7. That's great, Tiff. Excellent advice.

    Insurance nightmare

It sounds like your insurance company will just keep coming up with excuses and reasons NOT to cover the surgery which is typical of insurance companies - or really bad ones, which apparently you have. More enlightened insurance companies figure you'd be taking preventative action by having the surgery and they'd save money on health care down the road, but as I say, those are the few and far between ones. If all else fails, just bite the financial bullet and go to Dr. Aceves - I did so I know what I'm talking about - and have him do the surgery. Anywhere from $8500 to $10K depending, and you're done. You can pay back the credit card company (or pay cash if you have it) instead of beating your head against the wall over the stupidity of the insurance company. That's my advice for what it's worth.
  9. OK, let me understand this: one day you weighed 220 and the next day you weighed 232, and there was some doubt that the scale was off?? Did you really think you'd gained 12 pounds overnight? That's too funny. Glad you figured out the problem.
  10. / ITA with Tiff. Why risk stuff when there's no need to do that.....what to eat? You've got a lot of time - rest of your life - to eat whatever you can tolerate, so why push it? I followed a very conservative food plan as prescribed by Dr. Aceves, my surgeon. I didn't deviate from it, even though I "wanted" more substance in the food. I think what you're really saying PNW218 is that your "head" hunger got the best of you and you gave in to it. It's really in your best interest to NOT EAT that stuff in the beginning. Yes, every doc is different on what they'll allow, but to do this: is very foolish in my humble opinion of having gone through the sleeve procedure now 7 mos. post op. Your surgery wasn't even 1 mo. ago - guess what, you're not healed yet.

Congrats Tiff!! You look great. How exciting it is to get into those smaller sizes. I bought a pair of Guess skinny jeans, size 31, the ones that are low rise. I don't like low rise, but it's like impossible to find normal waist size jeans. IDK what a size 31 translates to in regular sizes, supposedly a size 12, but I'm already wearing a size 8 in Ralph Lauren, so that can't be right. Since they are skinny jeans, they are cut a lot smaller through the butt, legs and hips. In any case, they're tight but I know they'll loosen up. I think I could fit a size 6 RL jeans now, but I wanted something a little more edgy, denim-wise.
  15. I say "CU next Tuesday" when I want to use that word. Try it, you'll like it.:wink0:
  16. I figured you for a fire sign; I'm an Aries married to a Sag., so I totally get you.
  17. Tiffy - what sign are you? I like your style - balls to the walls, girl, you go!

I've lost the same amount of weight as you and am wearing a size 8 Ralph Lauren jeans. I ordered some Guess jeans, size 31, and haven't gotten them yet. I had also ordered size 28 Ralph Lauren, but NO WAY do those fit YET. They're skinny jeans and I'm not skinny enough to get into them yet, but the day will come. Anyway, just wanted to say GOOD JOB everyone. Keep it up!!:blushing::001_tt1: Oh and now my BMI is considered NORMAL WEIGHT. Yahoo!!
