The new Passport cards are acceptable for non-air travel, so it would work for getting back to San Diego from Mexicali. That is what DH and I got for our trip to Mexicali. It was less expensive, so that was a plus.

I agree with a HELOC. If that is an option for you, it could be your best bet. The interest paid from a HELOC is tax deductable as well. Good luck finding financing.< /p>

Exactly, Ruthi. Or as my DH says it, It's none of their business! :confused1:

I am trying to figure out how I will manage to get in Protein during the Clear Liquids stage. I tried the Unjury unflavored in my Water & I just couldn't overcome the smell. Perhaps it would be better mixed with Crystal Light? What are some good ways to get in protein while on clears only? Should I just concentrate on getting in my fluids until I progress to all liquids?

Congratulations on moving your date up! My surgery is July 7, so I'll be there until the 10th. I don't know if we'll get to see each other or not. My DH is going with me, thankfully. I honestly don't know if I could do it without him as he is my best friend and my biggest supporter.
Good luck! Oh, and ain't is awesome about the promotional price! :confused1:

I'm scheduled for July 7 with Dr. Aceves. I was totally against going to Mexico for surgery at first. However, after much research I decided it was actually my best choice! The local surgeons here were not experienced enough with the VSG, and the one I found that I liked was 2 hours away and wanted $20,000 & that wouldn't cover any complications or after care.
My DH was dead set against Mexico as well. However, after he found out I had been reserching it he began to research it as well (without me knowing it). He came to the same conclusion as I did, Dr. Aceves is the best choice for us! Don't get me wrong, I still have some nerves about traveling to Mexico (I've never flown before & never been out of the country, so I'm sure that is fueling the fear), but I'm comfortable with my choice of surgeons.
As far as telling family goes, we've only told our parents. And the only reason we did that is because my in-laws will be keeping our kids for us while we are gone. I can tell they are a little apprehensive about the whole thing (WLS & the Mexico thing), but they are being somewhat supportive about it. I really don't plan to tell anyone else. As far as they are concerned, DH and I are going on vacation together. :confused1:

Thanks, Rosebud. I'll check into it.

My DH will be bringing a laptop from work. We don't own a personal laptop. I'll check into the MagicJack & the phone card.

Well, we checked & it is .99 a minute for outgoing or incoming calls. So, I really hope I can get an AT&T tower! Otherwise, I won't be calling home much. The bad part about that is I won't get to talk with my kids. They've never been away from me & my DH for more than one night, so it's going to be tough on them. We could email, but my in-laws are staying with the kids and they won't even attempt to work our home computer...they honeslty don't know how.

Perhaps I should email Nina. Every little bit helps! (But I'm still going either way!)
ETA: Email sent. I'll let you know her response.

I haven't heard anything about Dr. Aceves' promotion. I am scehduled for July 7. WasA, how did you hear about the promotion?

Welcome, Rose! Thanks for sharing your story. Do you have a surgery date yet? I'm still pre-op...awaiting July 7 for my VSG. I call it "my Independence day"! I'll Celebrate my independence from obesity.

I've heard (but I haven't verified it yet) that you can receive calls there for no additional charge with AT&T. I sure hope that is the case! My DH is trying to find out all about our plan & stuff. Otherwise, I'll just be emailing family updates! I'm too cheap to pay the fees, too. I think the cell phone companies rip us off enough! :wink0:
