  1. Hi all! I've been shadowing this group for a while now and finally decided to put a post up. I'm finally able to start this new chapter in my life and would love to make friends newbies and veterans alike. So far I've just started my 6 month weigh ins and will be making the psych appt soon.<img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I just started my journey, too. I had my first dietician appointment and my psych eval last week. I met with my PCP on Friday and he is fully behind my having the surgery.

I am a little afraid of the six month diet though. I have failed so many times, I'm scared to death that I won't do well.

  3. I'm two months into my six month diet and I'm hoping to go in February/March. My last Dr.apt I gained 3lbs so I guess I'll try harder but it's HARD!!! I'm so anxious these next four months are going to feel like four years' date=' but then again, the past two months kinda flew by so...[/quote']

Keep at it- you've got this! I keep thinking that six months is going to be hard to maintain. But, I know I have to.

  4. Its like we share one mind! Except me husband flat out always told me how unattractive I was. ( now divorced) TG!

Sounds like my ex! Was his name John? lol

My hubby now is very supportive. He flat out told he wasn't going to let me chicken out this time. I started the process once before for a lap band three years ago. I for scared and cancelled everything. I regretted it with every pound I gained.

  5. Mine was different. I went to my surgeon who is at a Center Of Excellence ( Journey Clinic ) first and they did everything for me. Scheduled all of my weight mgmt/nut appointments' date=' psych, physical therapy evaluation, etc. all I have to do is show up to my appts and stick to the diet outlined. They are the ones who contacted my insurance ( Medicare Humana Gold ) and regular doctor and it has been easy as pie so far.[/quote']

So far, I really like my surgery center. They understand that my schedule is difficult to work around. I can't just take a couple if hours off- I have the process of getting a sub, making plans for the sub, nosy teens wondering why I'm gone a lot. Lol

They've worked well for me- I have the two appointments tomorrow. One at 4 the other at 5.

  6. I went to my first nut appt today. I was put on a diet very similar to Atkins with the exception of a Protein shake for Breakfast and a snack of cottage cheese' date=' low fat cheese or Greek yogurt with a little fruit. I only have a three month diet though. Unless I don't stick to it. Otherwise they will extend it out further. Ugh.[/quote']

That sounds like a very doable diet. Have you done Atkins before!

  7. Hi Kimcklow You are a teacher right???? I think I read one of your other posts.... I'm waiting to enter the program here ... I have a mandatory overview of the surgeries this Saturday and then my GP has to refer me and the. I wait for the call... I bought Protein shakes this weekend so I can start tomorrow.... Because I'm scared of failing.... I have no idea how long the process will take I hear 2 months to 6 months...

Yes, that's me. I just wish my insurance wasn't so strict on the length of the diet. I not sure in the reasoning for that. Just seems like hoop to jump through. I think being afraid of failure is the real reason I'm worried about the six months, too.

I like the flavor of Spiriutein Protein Shakes. They are very filling.

  8. lol it will get easier' date=' I felt the same way about pop, but every day I tell myself that my poor good choices is what got me in this boat in the first place. [/quote']

I don't know if anyone has experienced this, but once I made the decision to go forward with the surgery, I felt more free. Bit I've also felt more free with my eating. Not the best choices either. I'm excited to meet the nutritionist and begin.

  9. Wow i have so many mixed emotions right now i wanna scream' date=' cry, laugh all of the above ....lol...my isurance coordinator emailed me yesterday telling me she was gonna submit my info to insurance and that we should know by tuesday next week but she just emailed me saying that i got Approved and am all set and ready for the 10th yiiiiikes it's feeling sooo real NOW .. =)....soooo Nervioooous![/quote']

    Great news! Congratulations!

  10. I want to be able to go places with my family. For the past two weekends, I have chosen not to go on activities because I don't want to be seen this large.

I want to sit on my sofa and not have the cushion sink all the way down.

I want to sit on folding chairs and not be afraid they will break.

I want to walk between the aisles in my classroom and not worry about bumping my kids with my hips/butt.

I want to walk around my school without sweating and being out of breath.

I want to be able to clean my house without my back hurting.

I want my plantar fasciitis to go away.

I want to sleep the whole night and not wake up with back pain at 3am.

    There is so much more...

  11. I know in the end, I will end up telling a ton of people. I teach in a high school. I have told some people in my department that I am close with, but what about my students? I don't want them to worry about me while I'm gone. I'm really close with my students.

I'm hoping for a spring break surgery. I may just tell them the day before vacation starts.

  12. I told one of my bosses on Friday. I'm a teacher, and we have a very involved evaluation process. Attendance is a part of that process. We usually skip over that part quickly because it's never been an issue for me. But this year it will be different. So, I closed the door and told him. He was extremely supportive and even found the name if the person in HR that I needed to talk to. I love that he did that bit of leg work for me. So, it's not a bad idea for everyone.

  13. Hello everyone,

I just has my first consultation with Dr Evanson at St Vincent Carmel on September 16th. I'm really excited to get everything started!

My psych evaluation is Oct 2 and so is my first NUT meeting. I have to do a six month pre op diet per my insurance.

Does anyone here still go to the Avon support group? That's where I'll be going.

  14. My six month pre-op diet is set by my insurance. So' date=' it may be three for you. I read the rules on FMLA on the Dept of Labor website. Looks like from what they say and what you all have said, I should covered. I am really hoping for spring break, but I'll take summer if I need to. I'm just so excited to her this going.[/quote']

Oh, I just love autocorrect. I'm excited to get this going. Lol

  15. I'm an elementary school teacher and am going in on Friday to get all of this started... I didn't know it was a 6 month diet pre-op... I thought it was 3.... I was hoping they'd do the surgery the week before Christmas .... Guess it will have to be next summer :-(! Ill let u know what they say Friday.

  16. I'm wondering what the surgery experience has been like for teachers. Did you wait until summer for surgery? Did you have to take time off during the school year? Is the surgery covered under FMLA?

I'm worried that I'll have to wait until summer, even though I'm about to start my six month supervised diet plan. Just dealing with the anxiety of finally getting started, and praying nothing stands in the way .
