  1. Hi guys. I keep reading about a cup of food, or half a cup, quarter of a cup etc. It's not a measurement we use over here (a cup of tea for example is usually served in a mug). Does anyone know roughly how many Fluid ounces is in a cup? Thanks Lx
  2. So, I've mentioned before that I have no restriction and tomorrow I'm having a barium X-ray to see 1) the size of the pouch 2) the size of the stoma and 3) the rate at which the pouch empties. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and what happened?

Good luck kmre! I look forward to seeing you on the loser's bench :-)

    How much is a 'cup'

    It does, thank you :-)
  5. There have been a couple of times I've felt a little overful but I've stopped before getting too uncomfortable - that's why I wanted the bypass, because I've always hated that feeling of being FULL-UP! I remember saying to my surgeon that was my reasoning. I never eat beyond 'normally full' just because I hate that feeling so much - Lol, how annoying is it that I've now had the op and don't have any restriction. Nobody else seems to have this issue and I'm feeling a bit like a freak of nature :-)
  6. I don't know if this helps but my mum just had her right knee done 4 weeks ago - she was so bad, she was hobbling around for years. When her consultant took a look at her x-rays, she told her that both knees were now bone on bone and in the right knee a bone chip had dislodged and that was adding to the pain. You will find a doctor who will do this for you! I don't know how old you are but someone will be able to give you knee replacements. The only other thing I would say is that my mum wishes she'd lost her excess weight before the surgery because the swelling is so bad - I guess the more flesh you have, the more there is to swell. She was miserable with it for the first couple of weeks but I think she's turned a corner now. Good luck to you.
  7. Thanks for this, it makes interesting reading. We don't use a 'cup' as a measurement in the UK.A cup of tea is usually served in a mug and a cup is one of those silly little things that you see on Downton Abbey, lol. How many Fluid ounces would you say were in a cup?

    I give up (updates)

Annoying isn't it, we have just the one brain and yet, it tears us in two (sometimes more) directions. You want to lose weight, of course you do or you wouldn't have started down this road. But you want to eat and the less you're allowed or supposed to eat, the more you want to eat until you feel like to want to run along supermarket aisles stuffing it all into your mouth. Lol, ok, maybe that's a little dramatic but what I'm saying is that you should tell the part of your brain that says you you can't do something to STFU and go away It may have won the battle many times before and it would win again if you go into your group on Monday and tell them you're finished. It's like a bully, ignore them (in this case those negative messages) often enough and eventually, they will go away. Also, work on being nice to yourself. If you think you might be depressed, go get something to help, it won't hinder your operation in any way (just check with your particular surgeon but I've never heard of anti-depressants being a problem). If you have issues with self esteem, try and do one nice thing for yourself each day. Give yourself one nice message, they will soon build up and drown the negative stuff out, I promise :-) Good luck to you whatever you decide. Lx
  9. I must admit the thought of eating cottage cheese does turn my stomach a little but I've not heard of anything else. If there was another option, I'd be pleased to hear about it :-) I think they use cottage cheese as it doesn't take much chewing.
  10. Or does anyone know either in mls or fluid ounces how much their new pouch holds?
  11. I don't know what's happened but our RNY forum seems to have died since the changeover. Hardly any new content being added these days or replies being made. I'm wondering if many people have just given up. I think I might have to do the same as it's just a shadow of the great site it was before :-(

    Confessions Of A Chocoholic

In defence of TurnThePage - I've been thinking about this thread a lot today, having read through the posts last night. It strikes a chord with me as sugary food (including chocolate) is one of my big problems. I'm not an 'eat one or two chocolates and put the rest away' type of person, although I have tried many times. So, I exclude sugar from my diet knowing how addictive it is for me and how it increases insulin which lays down more fat (in layman's terms). Since seeing my Dietician last week and realising that I really do have NO restriction and I'm not losing weight, I hit the 'oh sod it' button and let sugar back in. Ok, let's get some persepctive, it's only been ten days and I haven't binged on sweet stuff but it's right back in there, when for me, it is a huge contributor to my weight gain. So, I read the posts and can relate and whilst some people have mentioned that TurnThePage's reply was less than helpful and I do have to agree that tact is perhaps something she could improve upon - it has actually been her words ringing in my ears today. Regardless of what happens about my lack of restriction, I have just spent £11,500 pounds on a bypass. I was lucky enough to sail through the initial healing period and this isn't only a second chance, it's my last chance to solve this problem - and I do really want to solve it! I realised she's right, I am sabotaging and once I'd realised that, I relaised why I hit the 'oh sod it' button and let sugar back in. And from there I realised that this behaviour only takes me further away from my goal of losing the weight. So, it's her post that may have got me back on track and for that I can only be thankful.
  13. Hi Mommashari. I feel a litte nauseous sometimes but that seems to have more to do with what I eat, rather than how much. New pouch doesnt like Cereal or chocolate much and today I discovered it doesn't like mince pies either. It passes quite quickly and I know to avoid that food in future. When I'm full (which takes a LOT) I just feel uncomfortably full, the same feeling as pre surgery.
  14. Thanks Vicki, I will. Just feeling a bit despondent at the moment.
  15. Well pouch size is normal and stoma size is normal according to the X-ray. Doesn't make any sense :-/ The radiologist will now send a report to my surgeon and who knows where we go from there. I'm really confused as to how I have no restriction which, let's face it, is a massive part of the reason we have this operation.
  16. I agree. This needs investigation!
  17. Hi. I had my surgery on 10th October so I'm nine weeks out. I've lost around 14lb but that includes the pre-op diet so it's not very good and more because I've been dieting than any benefit from the surgery. Are you losing?
  18. Well, I did not know this. I take 20mg of Omeprazole each day for heartburn. I saw my dietician yesterday and he said that if you regularly take these, your dumping may be reduced. So, you think you're a non dumper, like me (excpet for one ill-judged chinese takeaway) but actually, if you weren't on one of these, you may dump more! Who knew?
  19. I've checked with the surgeons and apparently the diameter of the stoma and the pouch emptying rate as well as the size of the pouch can be seen with a barium X-ray. So I'll just wait for an appointment to come through. No restriction, no dumping, slow weight loss probably only attributed to calorie counting ... I just don't feel as though I've had the procedure :-(
  20. Hi, has anyone else had lighter coloured poop since their bypass? I'm thinking it's because of the malabsorbtion aspect of RNY as when I was on Xenical which blocks the absorbtion of some fat, I had the same thing. I read that light poo can be a sign of liver problems so I went for a liver function test and all was fine. Just checking (hoping) I'm not the only one :-)

    The Slow Losers Thread

Oh dear. Not a good day really. Yes, I have lost another 2lb, just! I saw the dietician guy today and he confirmed that I don't have the restriction I should. He couldn't believe I could eat a whole sandwich for lunch and that I get 2-3 litres of liquid each day with no problem. In one sense, it's nice to finally have someone else agree with what I've been saying all along about my restriction but on the other hand, it's scary to hear that my weight loss is nowhere near what it should be. He's sending me for an X-ray to see what size the pouch is. That's good - except that he said that no-one he's sent for an X-ray to date, has ever had a problem with their pouch!!! So, of the pouch is ok, what's wrong with me?

    The Slow Losers Thread

Thanks, will do - if it's less than 1 lb per week, I think I may go and cry in the corner, lol. I can live with that but any less than 1 lb a week and I'm not going to be able hold off the idea that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't lose weight following bypass! :-)
