  1. Ok I did it. I have to admit I'd forgotten how large amounts of cottage cheese can be gross but the results were that I are 210g which is 7.4 ounces. So my pouch isn't tiny but nor is it huge. According to the link above up to 9 ounces makes no difference to weight lost. Something to think about.
  2. This site says do it within 5 minutes so that no food (if you can count cottage cheese as food) has time to leave the stomach. It also says that basically you're ok as long as the amount the pouch will hold is less than 9 ounces. Jeez, don't you hear so many different things with this bypass malarky? https://www.bsciresourcecenter.com/proddetail.php?prod=A4
  3. And how do you feel about that?
  4. Well, I've bought my cottage cheese and I think I'll do the test in the morning - mmm yummy, as much cottage cheese as you can eat, lol. I can't wait Still, it'll be good to know how much the new pouch can take. I will report back.
  5. My mum taught me something which holds true and I've taught my daughter the same thing - trust your instincts!! They are there for a reason and we ignore them at our peril. Perhaps the voice in your head is trying to tell you that this surgery isn't for you or perhaps that you're just not ready. Why not keep doing what you're doing which is great and wait for the day you wake up and JUST KNOW the/which surgery is right for you - and if that day doesn't come, perhaps other options will. Good luck x
  6. As previously posted, I'm a band to bypass conversion on 10/10. I have no restriction and yet my my x-rays are 'fine' and 'normal'. I have an appointment with my surgical team next week and need to go in there with the right info. On my initial consultation, the bariatric nurse told me the new stomach would be the size of a lime - she held one up! I've read various posts, all sorts of medical reports and articles and I'm more confused than ever ... so I thought I'd ask the people who've been through it ... you guys! Please can you tell me how big the new stomach post rny should be? Or how much it should hold? I realise I'll get different answers but when I ask him how big mine is / will hold judging by the x-rays, I'll be able (within a certain range) to know if mine is normal. Also, apparently the correct stoma size post surgery is 1/4 of an inch - would everyone agree with that? Thanks so much. L x
  7. Did you miss the part about me having no restriction? You're usually the first one to advise people to go back to their surgeons if they feel something's wrong. I'm just looking for a rough consensus on pouch size. If you have anything helpful to add, that would be great.

    Sleeved Twice - My Story

I will do, thank you :-)
  9. Yes because we all had WLS so that we could lose all the weight and keep it off by diet and exercise alone didn't we? If you had any kind of surgery that you didn't think was quite right, you're telling me you wouldn't question it? I don't think so.

    Sleeved Twice - My Story

I am so 'happy' to come across this post. I know that's the wrong word but it's just so nice not to feel like a freak of nature and that there are other people out there with the same issues. I'm so glad you had a revision and that it's been sucessful. Like you, I'm self pay and paying for yet another surgery is just not possible. I had a band to bypass conversion on 10th October and from week two, I suspected that I had little or no restriction. For a few weeks I was told 'you'll be fine' and then I had my first visit with the dietician who nearly fell off his chair when I told him I could eat a whole sandwich for lunch! I felt someone was finally listening and they sent me for x-rays and the x-guy said all looked fine ... so that confused me. How can all be fine when I can eat a whole baguette? I have an appointment to see one of the surgeons next week but can't help but think I might be fobbed off. Despite my asking, I'm not seeing my own surgeon (who, by the way has now performed surgery on me twice. Once with the band and this time with the conversion to bypass). I'm seeing his collegue which seems weird and I'm hoping that it's just because my guy is on holiday. Anyway, we'll see what they have to say but as I'm in the UK, I don't have many places I could go and seek a second opinion. If they tell me to go away and nothing's wrong, I'm kinda left out in the cold with nowhere to go :-(

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I did indeed :-) Still no restriction. Still confused about my dietician saying I need to get out of the diet mentality. Next appointment with team on 6th January. I know there's more I can do for myself but struggling with motivation as I don't feel as if I've had surgery. Weird. I'll update when I know more. In the meantime, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Xx
  12. There aren't many of us - so far, I think it's me, Patticake and Mommashari who feel they have no restriction. I also saw someone called Alice (I think) who said the same thing but now I cant find her :-( If you're in the same boat, let's all stay in touch and see if we can share info that might help us to get the bottom of the problem. Here's my very brief story; band removed and RNY done on 10/10/13. No restirction, no dumping, no foods I can't tolerate (although I've gone off Breakfast cereal). I had an x-ray last week to look at stoma and stomach size - all seems 'normal' and yet my dietician nearly fainted when I told him i could easily eat a whole sandwich for lunch. No feedback from surgery team since the x-ray so i eamiled them today - no reply! Starting to feel like I might have just wasted a lot of money. L x

    Brand New

Hi Molly and welcome. All I can say to you is research, research and then research some more. I had a band in 2010 and we could never reach a fill point between eating anything and vomiting all the time. I had a band to bypass revision on 10/10. My bariatric team don't even perform bands anymore as they consider them to be so unsuccessful. But then I just read in another forum how happy one guy is with his. All you can do is read, learn as much as you can and choose the weight loss surgery you think is right for you. Good luck :-)

    4 months post op bypass

Hi Zoe, that's fabulous, well done! I take it you're in the UK as you're using 'stones'? :-)
  15. Hi DS-ers. What's the difference between a bypass and the DS? They sound pretty similar. Also, I see that you can revise from a sleeve to a DS but can you revise from a bypass to DS? Thanks.
  16. The more I think about this, the more simple it gets. Those of us who don't feel restriction have pouches that are just too big to make any (or very little) difference. The pouch is guess work for the surgeon, unlike with the sleeve where they use a bougie and sew around it to create a fairly uniformed sleeve, depending on the size of the bougie used. There are several articles out there that say the size of the new stomach is a major factor in the success or failure of bypass surgery. Given this, and the fact that the first 6 months are the most important in weight loss surgery and the fact that the pouch will stretch over time (according to veterans on this site), I have a question ... If your surgeon were to offer you a revision to reduce the size of the pouch further, would you do it? Would you put yourself through another surgery?
  17. Could anyone who is about 2 - 3 months out tell me what they eat in a day? I'm not looking for recipes but volume really so is it something like: Breakfast: 1 egg Lunch: Half cup chopped chicken (or other protein) Dinner: Chicken and vegetable casserole/stir-fry etc Do you snack in between, it so on what? It would just be really helful for me to know what eating each day looks like with a fully functioning gastric by-pass/restricted pouch. As previously posted, I have no restriction and I need to see how it should be. Thank you if you have time. L x
  18. I can't find this here yet but hopefully it's on it's way :-)
  19. This sounds like it might be a bit more than people noticing your weight loss. It could be as simple as the dreaded 'gaunt' or 'ageing' look we can all get when we disproportionately lose fat from our faces - if this bothers you I can highly recommend botox and particularly fillers. However, are you sure you're healthy? Are you taking your Vitamins? Is you Protein intake ok? Could you be anemic? I think a full blood work-up might be in order. Sometimes, it takes others to point out a problem we can't see. Good luck :-)
  20. Yes, please let us know what your doc says :-)

    Calf pain

What did your doctor say about it?
  22. Yep, I had a night out with friends and family and another just with a girlfriend; lobster, steak, wine, it was lovely :-) Enjoy!

    Lap band removal-approved,but RNY denied

Oh dear, that's rough. I had my band removed and RNY done on 10th October. I'm so glad they did it in just one operation (one recovery period etc.) I'm self pay as we don't have health insurance as you know it, over here. Can you/your surgeon appeal that decision?
