  1. your doctor gave you pain medication for a reason. take it and than go for a walk. walking is the best way to get rid of the gas they used to inflate your abdomen for surgery. warm drinks, heating pad also will help. but take your pain medication. but begin to think about bowel movements. ask your doctor but miralax is what a lot of ppl use. and colace. good luck
  2. yes , you are swollen from surgery. i don't have the video anymore but if you can see what they have to do to get the band in and all the stitching etc. you would understand why you have swelling and that even liquids can get stuck. my suggestion is if you are unable to get any liquids down for 24 hours your doctor needs to be notified. you don't want to get dehydrated. that feeling would make you feel sick. take small just to wet the whistle sip of warm tea. slowly take a bit more and than more. just do it slowly. as far as the ticker is concern, i filled out my surgery date ticker and it has never come up. perhaps another problem that alex needs to fix. send a email to him. he is good at responding.
  3. i was in congested heart failure so walking to even the bathroom was a chore. but i had to take about 160 mg of lasix and i think with all the Fluid i was losing so did the gas. i didn't have any gas pains. but walking is the best medicine so is warm or Hot drinks. face it the first week is hell. so you will be there in no time. i guess my advice is hang in there and come here to complain. it all helps. good luck and best to you
  4. yaya, that is a normal feeling you are having. you can still eat to much for your band when it is empty. or eat to fast which is what i still battle with. when the burp is productive do you have a lot of slime with it? this is the pbing you read so much about. i betcha just before you got that feeling and the pain you had a little soft feeling telling you no more. more than feeling full, listen to the soft signals so you don't experience the pain. good luck
  5. i like that you were assertive. i wish all patients could be more assertive with their doctor's. my doctor said that 8 cc's is a average fill for a 14cc band.
  6. the only time i get the belches is after a bad stuck issue. so i can't really respond to your question , sorry hopefully this will subside and just become a once in awhile nuisance
  7. just come here. most of your questions are answered here. take the advice or take the questions to your own doctor. you always want to follow your own doctor. my doctor has a online video to watch and it's free. perhaps yours does too
  8. what a timely post terry. i was feeling so guilty last night. i ate a bit of hot fudge sundae. it wasn't much but geez the way i felt you would of thought i took the band out and ate a gallon of ice cream. i figured the amount of ice cream and yes the hot fudge and i actually still fell under my food count for the day. not that i am going to make it a habit but i am now eating 75%less than i was eating before and that included the ice cream so i am not going to feel guilty anymore. nice article.
  9. i didn't have any heart trouble until i did. a hour later it stopped. but from what i have learned from here is that your vagus nerve can be affected by the band at times. which could be the discomfort you are discribing. but to err on the right side a call to your doctor takes a few min's. let him/her decide if they would like to check you out. good job on your band, glad most things are okay.
  10. it happens. just remember that there are really soft signals that indicate if you are going to be in trouble, usually with the next bite. a tiny feeling of fullness, a feeling of heart burn almost. a burp. it's always the next bite that does you in. i usually blow it with my very first bite of food. i always forget. and swallow to soon, and get that feeling. so i wait until the all clear. and than i just eat small bites chewed very well.
  11. to much food allowed on weight watchers for a person banded. don't need to count points if you are eating the desirable amount of food for the band.
  12. yep what the others said. a cup saucer of food. Protein first.
  13. you are swollen from being stuck. sips and i mean real small sips here and there until a sip stays down. than increase the sips. but if its more than a day you need to see your doctor. being dehydrated is not good.
  14. if you weren't nervous i would be worried about you. being prepared is the whole secret about this procedure. read everything you can. scan the different topics here and learn learn learn. please continue to come back here if you have questions or just need a shoulder to lean on. good luck
  15. if it is severe there is anti-nausea medication you can take. you need to let your doctor know that you are nauseated. but it sounds like you are experiencing what all post band ppl face. and like bandista, walking was my biggest help and still is when i do something stupid and get stuck. lol good luck.
  16. i always have back pain after a fill. it's because my doctor has me raise my legs and or head during the procedure and i always spasm out. the rest of the day i am hurting in my lower back and my side.
  17. all the answers and advice you were given are right on. i am one of the ones that does not weigh myself at home. only at my surgeons office. i don't want the scale to determine my mood or eating habit for the day. please read the nsv's. non scale victories. they are what you should be basing things on. such as, energy level, fitting in clothes better, being able to move much easier, and doing something positive for yourself is such a high. lapbanders on a whole is not about great fast weight loss, its all about how, what , and how much we are eating. 4lbs to 5lbs a month is what to expect. good luck and keep a positive attitude, you are winning this battle.
  18. welcome to the best web site ever. i used every bit of info on here and either applied it or asked my surgeon advice. ppl are super friendly and supportive. good luck as your day arrives. be sure to let us know how you are doing.
  19. try and remember that your band isn't there to tell you that you are full. you should be eating a restricted amount of food and than stop eating. keep in mind no more than a cup full of food primarily Protein 3 times a day. by doing this you will feel satisfied at meal times and satisfied between meals. if you are not, than a fill is needed. but to not learn how to eat with a band means a unsuccessful outcome. you will always be hungry or you will always be over filled. good luck with your band.
  20. Well you can bet that your surgeon is going to place that port in just the right spot so it won't happen again. and you will have a fill all at the same time. good luck and best for your surgery.
  21. Thanks everyone. my husband is doing fine. home from work for a few days. i told him there were better ways to stay home and help me decorate for christmas. lol. he hates and has never helped me decorate. but since he is here i am taking advantage of him. he tries to escape to his man cave but i told him i know where it is and he can't run fast enough to get out of decorating. so it's sorta fun having a sick man around. another yeah for me.
  22. Last night i was washing clothes when i got a call that my husband was taken to the emergency room. i looked around and all the clothes that fit half way decent was in the washing machine or dryer. There was a pair of jeans i figured would take a couple of months to get into just hanging in my closet taunting me to try them on. so i did and they fit. i didn't have time to do a happy dance but i did smile. i wore them and they were comfortable. the scale may not be going down much but inches are. so ppl don't get discouraged by your scale. oh my husband is fine. he fainted at work but it wasn't his heart nor did he have a stroke. he will likely have to make the rounds of the specialists to see if they can't find the problem.
  23. my doctor doesn't want me to eat Snacks. 3 meals a day only. no Protein shakes at all. eat low fat, carb etc. and what fits on a saucer. i think this is working.
  24. it sounds like you are a doctor's joy. everything you are afraid of shouldn't happen. you are getting a fill for all the right reasons. good luck on it. be assertive if you have to be.
