  1. That's good to know. I wasn't aware.

    December Bandwagon Supporters

I've read some are and some aren't on a pre-op diet. My Dr. did not assign a clear liquid. Just under 1000 calories and eating things that are sugar and fat free. Intake of 70-90g of protein. At midnight the night before, I was not drink or eat. I too have no idea the time. A nurse did call me and got the major information confirmed but said they'd call before 4pm with the time.

    More Questions

My preop diet sounds very similar. Week 1 is clear liquids. Then two weeks of softer things. 3-4 weeks until puree foods.

    Is Pizza Band Friendly.

Pizza and bread on pizza shop subs are my absolute weakness.
  5. Congratulations everyone on your weight loss so far!! It's very encouraging to see this.
  6. Today is day 3 of the preop diet and yesterday I almost buckled!!! I felt weak and starving! I'm allowed popsicles and hello but nothing was helping. I can have cream of wheat with milk, smart ones meal at lunch (200 calories and highest protein), and high Protein shakes. If I need to do things, it's burning calories and I feel sick. Left the house Saturday for a hair appointment, was sitting in the chair waiting for the color to process and went to the bathroom 3 times. Watery mouth, heat flashes, and stomach aches!!!! If my body has been in (since 11/29) and will be (until 12/5) in starvation mode, doesn't that put your body into store fat mode. Myfitnesspal says when I complete my daily food diary I can shut down my metabolism. I'm wondering how much this affects weight loss after banding.
  7. I saw a band patient YouTube diary on her weight loss and she said she used New whey Protein. They are on Amazon for $25 for 12 tubes. Each tube has 45g protein. I bought a multi pack and so far, blue is good, orange is terrible in taste. I had a full tube over a 1 hr period of time and felt achy. I googled aches and protein and articles say you can cramp, etc if you have low quality protein. I haven't tried the powders or any other yet. I do drink Ensure High Protein shakes which have 25g protein. A shake and all or part of the New Whey is alone would be 70g.
  8. I've read my paper about pre-op 7 day diet and all of the post-op diets, and lots more.... What are some of the other pre-op issues/difficulties or things you would like to of been told and weren't until "after" the fact? Constipation, incisions, recovering, stay overnight post-op, pains and aches following the surgery.

My surgery is set for 12/6/13. I started day 1 of the 1,000 calorie diet. It's two protein shakes, one for breakfast, the other for dinner. For lunch is a Smart One's, Lean Cuisine with 200-300 calories. I'm nervous but also ready to start this journey.

    It's About Me & It's For Me

I have a friend who was banded June 2011. She went from 227lb to 180lb. She did a temporary retirement and moved to the beach. She never returned to the doctors for fills or unfills. At the beach, she was tempted by seafood and steak places and ate at them daily/weekly. She over ate which caused her to have a hernia and lower esophagus problems. The doctor she saw told her Tue band ruined her. She is now 100% against lapband and is 100% against me having it. I have another friend who is approximately 40+ lbs heavier than I am and she too will not discuss it with me! I also have a co-worker who is approximately 275-300lbs and she keeps saying she needs to put meat on my bones. If I were to explain to her I'm having WLS, she would most likely say I'm nuts. In her eyes (or others at a higher weight) compare and feel you (others) don't need WLS.
  11. When is/was your lapband surgery date? What was your starting weight and current/goal weight?
  12. My sister had gastric bypass In 2005. Starting weight 257. Her current weight is now 110-120. She had many, many episodes for years after GB. She needs Iron transfusions and suffers from dumping a LOT. She had scar tissue that required her to need surgeries. My cousins mother in law had lapband, rejected it and after removal, had GB. She would have rather had LB because she had medical issues from GB. Everyone is different though. I know people who were banded and had gastric. Some successful, some with issues.

Slow Progress & In Need Of Support & Ideas

In my opinion, I think losing slowly will allow skin and your body's elasticity to catch up with the smaller, slower weight loss. My friend lost 40 lbs in two years from LB. My sister had gastric in 2005 and lost 80 lbs at first in a very short period of time. (She would have still had excess skin but her arms, legs, etc show no sign of extra skin. She has had a tummy tuck and breast implants). My LB is scheduled for 12/6/13. I would like to lose 1-2 lbs a week or two. Prefer slower pace.

    What Do You Tell People?

I also told NO coworkers as they will repeat it. I told my boss of course due to time off. My mother, two friends, husband, and cousin know. I do not plan on telling anyone else as I don't want to explain over and over. My friend was banded 2 yrs ago. At first was ok. She now has a hernia and from her issues is really against me having it. She is NOT supportive at all. Some view it as you're weak, disagree, or have someone who is against it.
  15. Hello everyone! My band surgery is set for December 6th. I was given the 7 day diet of 1,000 calories per day (High Protein shakes, one very small no fat, high protein lunch until the day before surgery). They said it is to put your body in starvation mode which shrinks the liver and allows easier application of the band. I'm very nervous as I still have to tend to two children and be a full time college student and work a full time job. On a side note, I don't understand why some has a pre-surgery liquid diet, my type, or none at all. How is this different from those who don't and the band was placed with no issues?

    Drink Help

For the last year, I was/am a Red Bull junkie. I started with the regular 8 oz. Red Bull. Six+ months ago I switched to sugar free RB. Now, I usually have one (never more than one) TOTAL ZERO red bull a day. I also was an iced coffee or iced tea junkie. I totally stopped iced coffee's all together. I switched from regular iced tea to a local brand of Southern Brew Diet Black Tea (details below). I do not drink any soda or any other "juices", etc. I do have skim milk for Cereal, etc. I need to find a drink that is okay to drink and is allowed. Any suggestions?? Details: Ingredients: Black Tea, Aspartame*, Maltodextrin, Citric Acid. *Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine. Nutrition Facts: Total Fat 0g, Saturated Fat 0g, Trans Fat 0g, Calories 0, Cholesterol 0mg, Sodium 0mg, Total Carbohydrate <1g, Dietary Fiber 0g, Sugars less than 1g, Protein less than 1g per serving size of 1 cup.

    Shorty!

I am a 36 yr old mother of two. After working in a fast paced nursing job, I landed a office desk job 13 years ago. First two years I gained 10lbs. After my first child, I kept on about 10 lb. Two more years I gained another 10-15 lb. Baby number two came. I lost Tue baby weight but was another 10 lb higher. In 2008 I went from 183 to 145 lb. After stopping the strict diet plan and very limited foods, I creeped up close to 200lb. In 2011 I visited a weight loss clinic for help. They immediately put me through the lapband process only to discover my BMI was 34.6. I stopped the process and tried a diet plan again. It resulted in losing 3-6 lbs and gaining 10+. Finally, in June 2013 I found another clinic where the indicated I was a 38.9-39.2 BMI. I have acids reflux and arthritis in my knees due to excess weight. I've had a esophagus/stomach scope, psychiatric appt., and my 6th required appointment 11/16. They will submit to my insurance and if approved, surgery is pending for lapband on December 6th. This has been a dream for a long time to finally get help!! A lot of people feel I don't need lapband and can do it on my own. If that was the case, I wouldn't even be here where I am. I'm nervous about the procedure but know it's the beat option for me.
  19. My band surgery is scheduled on 12/6/13. What is the standard recovery time after surgery? To return to work (office desk job)? How long until incisions heal? Resume with exercising (specifically Zumba twice a week)?

    General Questions

My lapband is scheduled 12/6/13. I'm aware of the pre-surgery diet. What do you consume post-surgery. Obviously eating as usual is not an option. My main concerns are what foods can be eaten that are good for you and pass through ok? I've been diagnosed as non diabetic hypoglycemia. Thus my weight issue. Sugar drops and I grab and eat. I do not eat fish, seafood, steak. How long to recover (my surgery is on a Friday, have the weekend and can take off Mon-Wednesday if needed)? I go to Zumba twice a week. How long until I can resume and exercise?

    Low BMI

Two years ago I was around a 34-36 BMI. I visited a weight loss clinic and was immediately put through the insurance required schedule, only to learn insurance very well will reject me. After 4 nutrition appointments (insurance didn't cover) I stopped going. Currently, I still struggled with my weight. Being short (5'0"), it was affecting me. I knew I wasn't going back to that clinic. Discovered a different place and are now a 38.8 BMI. Was 39.0 highest. Lost 7.8 lbs since June. Have attended each monthly nutrition/appointment, had an upper scope completed, and are going 11/16 for my final visit. Submit to insurance and lapband surgery is December 6!!! I have acid reflux, arthritis in my knee. The office I go to said they've had all sorts of insurance to deal with and mine is up there in a hassle to approve. But, they know how to push to get it accepted. Many who come in for their appointment are in the 245-300+ range. People look at me like I've already had it. Or, I do not need it!!
  22. I am pre band (early December) and know for a fact I eat and swallow way too fast. I used to eat slow 12-13 years ago and family/friends would gripe about me eating too slow. Since then, I tended to eat faster -- since everyone is always in such a hurry. However, band or not, I think eating slowly allows the brain to catch up and recognize what the stomach is already experiencing-being full.

In a week and a half...

That is wonderful. And I bet you are so pumped with excitement. I am pre surgery. Am scheduled for early December. I eat carbs and little protein. What type of foods that are healthy that you cannot eat now with the band?
