    No Fills Yet

Today is day 13 post op and the last few days I could eat mushy things. I had a holiday party at work and everyone brought a dish or dessert. I had 1/4 c or less of baked macaroni, 5 small bites of Pasta salad. I also tested and could eat a mini BBQ sausage after chewing it to mush. I don't feel as full but know that as each day passes, I'm healing and realizing less restriction only because the swelling is going down. I'm still only around 450-500 calories a day. My next appointment is 1/22/14 for a questionable fill. Two days ago I would have said no way. I'm thinking by 1/22 I better get a little fill. Can you explain in detail the green zone. I only filled out one paper that had foods in yellow, green, or red areas. Mine were all green first follow up.

    No Fills Yet

I've had no meats or bread since surgery. Other than yesterday, I have cream of wheat, yogurts, pudding, protein shakes, cottage cheese.

    Food Help.

I'm still on the puree or very soft foods stage and have been eating sugar free jello, protein shakes, and a little broth or soups. Need more ideas. ~~Note: I do not eat any fish or seafood.~~

Help! I Was Banded 4 Days Ago!

Today is Day 9 post op and the swelling is minimal. No pain meds, nothing. Wore jeans for the first time and only have discomfort at the port. <br> One part I don't like so far is the port is one inch above and to the left of my belly button. Hope the feeling of the port goes away as it is right on or very near to the waistline of many of my clothes!! Now knowing this, I hope as losing weight, this location moves from clothing waistline area.
  5. Which did you have to close lapband incisions? Which leave the least scarring?

    Staples, Stitches, or Glue?

How long until the glue can come off. Today is Day 7 postop for me and the glue is flaking at the sides and getting itchy. I have a thick bulging scar between my ribs from gall bladder surgery (10/2012) and I have stitch markets and the scars are still visible. For that, I had the old hard stitches they cut out day 9 post.
  7. From Day 3-6 I had less than 100 calories a day. I couldn't drink liquids more than Water as I felt I ate a Thanksgiving dinner. Today, Day 7, I had about 5 bites of milk/watered down cream of wheat at 8am. 11am had 1/2 a Jello pudding snack pack sugar free, and around 3pm I had 6 sips of a banana, milk homemade smoothie. About 1/4 cup or less of high Protein shake and I feel no hunger. When I asked the other day about calories, I didn't mean as to restrict or diet to heal , I just didn't know how long I should be going with less than 100 calories/day. I immediately thought of issues related to lack of calories but just couldn't "eat" liquids. I'm not even rushing a fill until I feel comfortable and get used to this changing pattern. Still trying to gather the thought process and plan.
  8. Coming from 3 meals a day and sometimes one meal was a lot, I have to get used to eating small more often. In the a.m. I have about 4 oz Protein shake and fat free skim milk. Sips of Water an hour after then protein and milk around 1pm. At 5, the same. What are the average daily calories 1 week post and 2-3 weeks post op?
  9. I have been craving pizza and want one bite so bad!! I too wonder when this will fade. I guess right now I don't give in because I'm afraid of getting stuck. I'm 6 days post but the craving and hunger is there.
  10. I'm still learning 6 days postop. Day 4-present I am VERY hungry @ 11am and 4-5pm each day. I did have 2 Tbsp of sugar free Jello Vanilla pudding and then I felt full. I don't want to keep eating pudding as a food choice. Soups have sodium.

Help! I Was Banded 4 Days Ago!

This may sound weird but I found a lot of gas came out when I laid flat in bed. I laid on my right side for 10-15 minutes then did the same on my left side. A good bit came at once. I'm 6 days post and still have a good bit of pressure. I know this because the cut off sweatpants I'm wearing were baggy pre and I have to pull them down at my hips because the elastic is putting pressure on my belly.

    1 week post-op foods

Those who are currently one week or so after LB surgery, please post items you are eating. I have a list of liquids and creamier liquids but just need some brands, ideas, etc so I know it's ok. Currently 5 days after and I have Water, very little milk with Ensure High Protein shake, maybe two bites of sugar free Jello and I feel full. This morning I felt the first official feelings of being hungry since 12/6. I sometimes forget when I wake up and catching myself thinking I'll make eggs and toast. I also get really thirsty if it's hot in the house and then realize I can't just drink a bottle of water.

    Hello!

Welcome!!! You will be able to check threads with a lot of support. I am in a very similar scenario as you. I was banded 12/6. As of yesterday and today, I feel so much better. I have a friend who was non compliant and her band failed less than one year. I went into this knowing that. The most important thing to consider now is band is Only a tool. It will not be why you lose weight. After banding, you must must plan your meals. It requires researching which foods have highest nutrients and will keep you full longer. Cutting out greasy and high fat foods. If you will still be at the same job post surgery, you will have to take a lunch cooler and ice packs. Put in pre measured foods. Be sure to try and use the foods you are to eat afterwards now. At a minimum, if your doctor doesn't order it, do a 1,000 calorie/day diet one week before of sugar free and reduced fat as well as slowly stop liquid calories (iced coffee, lattes, sugary sodas and teas). It will prep your body in many ways. Lastly, post here as often for support and help toward your specific situation at the time. Best of luck to you!!
  15. The doctor prescribed Colase following surgery due to constipation. If one is only sipping water or liquids all day 2-5 days following surgery, will the body even need to pass a BM? When will the BM's start post-op?

    Im In Hell!

I am on day 3 post-op. From 12/6-12/8, I've no more than 5-8 sips of Water all day, nothing more. Very thankful they required and overnight stay, which I didn't want. However, the continued drip in my IV saved me from dehydration. Still have left shoulder pain and gas bloating. I've found if I do lay down for a little, I do feel the gas moving, which results in burps or gas. I use one of those small 4 tsp medicine cups that comes with children's medicine and drink 3-4 tsp of Pedialite or water. So far cannot drink more than 1-2 caps an hour or I feel too full and pain in my chest and back.

    December 2013 Band

I am to arrive at 7:15 am tomorrow morning!! Staying up so I'm tired tomorrow and hypoglycemia doesn't kick in while waiting for the actual 9:15 surgery. For those who posted with 12/1-12/31 band dates, post your replies. 1) How was post op first day? 2) Weight as of LB date. 3) Any tips or advice for those scheduled in a few days, weeks.?? (What to take, what to eat/not eat, etc...)

    December 2013 Band

I'm just concerned of dehydration. Yesterday was sips of water. Couldn't do anything more. I finally bought Pedialite to drink to help with dehydration.

For those who are scheduled for banding and are not on a 7 day pre op diet, I'd highly recommend it on your own for the following reasons: 1) Your body will adjust to the new eating patterns following surgery. Imagine eating a nice big burger and fries to only sipping water for 3-5 days afterwards. 2) Your body will already be in detox mode to again prep. I was banded 12/6. Stayed overnight discharged the next day.

    Surgery Day Checklist

Other than the Dr. recommended list, was there something you didn't have you wish you took/packed after surgery in the hospital? I read my list which was very little information. I only know to wear lose comfy clothing, I may stay overnight, no ice, no gum or mints, and chapstick for dry lips. What OTC meds can I take afterwards and should all meds be liquid form, never pill after?

    December 2013 Band

I have bad bloating. I'm not sure how much I'm to be drinking at once. I've had soft mush jello, about 2 spoons. Few teaspoons of liquid broth. I have water every so often. Not sure if my headache is from glasses or lack of food. I don't want to over eat but know it might be too less.

    Lb Surgery In 3 Days!

My LB surgery is set for this Friday (12/6)! I'm getting nervous!! Am on a 1,000 calorie diet of sugar free no fat items (mostly protein shakes). Today I wasn't even thinking and almost grabbed something to snack on 3 times when I got home from work. Today I only had one incident. Saturday was the worst. Felt weak and wondered how I was going to last a week on this pre-op diet!! Am excited its finally time bit know this is also no more bad habits, gone for good or else!!!
