  1. I love Woodard... Not a fan of Kara at all... How's your journey so far. I have had 2 fills, painless I literally didn't even feel it. I'm losing really slow. I can't workout due to An injury this whole time. Trying to stay positive... I'm down 36 lbs since surgery... Wish it were more tho. But a loss is a loss

  2. I am a huge fan of the show! However' date=' I do wonder how many people keep the weight off. What they do is so incredibly intense. I mean, 9 hours of working out a day. Who can keep up anything close to that when they home to family and jobs???? I know they showed one man who gained the weight back, can't remember his name. I do find the show totally engrossing thought. Watching their struggles and triumphs is motivating.[/quote']

Not many, mike ventrella a past winner put most of it back on... Recently saw him at costco

  3. I took a hiatus the past few seasons but am watching this one because I love Reuben Studdard!! I actually went to high school with a past winner (Mike Ventrella) and haven't watched since then. It makes me sad when they "only" loose like 13 lbs a week and everyone is disappointed in them. Not realistic and very unhealthy both physically and emotionally!!

That's crazy he teaches a spin class at my gym... You went to my hometown hs then prob know my neighbors. Small world

  4. I too noticed you said you were banded on 9/11. If you are feeling this badly and it has been 4 weeks then you absolutely need to call your doctor as you shouldn't be feeling that bad this far out. Just to make sure everything is ok. Hope you feel better soon.

I posted that 9/16. I feel wonderful 4 weeks out. Weight loss is stalled for 2 weeks but on mushies an happy. Thank you thought

  5. Thank you guys so much for the validation and responses. It's hard going through this. I do realize the potatoe chips and pretzel yesterday were not positive points. The only good thing about sodium and me, I don't really retain much Water. Yay low bp.

I will keep on trucking. I see my MD in 10 days. I hope it's just healing and not starvation mode. What a journey.

  6. Soo since my post ooo appt 2 weeks ago I gained a pound. I eat less than 900 cal a day. All Protein based, some vegis with minor exercise. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I know I can increase exercise and am slowly working into it. I just got cleared. Even with minimal exercise, I am eating significantly less, I should be losing. :-(

I don't ever meet fat, carbs, or sugar goals on my fitness pal. I sure hope something gives soon. It's kind of discouraging. I just keep reminding myself I've lost 20#s. That's fantastic.

Myfitnesspal is Samanthamegan3 Add me, I dunno if you can see what I ate. I tracked only 2 days but this is consistent with what I've been eating for 2 weeks. :-( help

Today I went off track with the potatoe chips (8 of them) and a pretzel rod. But Monday is a mirror image of my meals. I've been doing the same thing for 2 weeks

And I eat sushi no rice. But that option isn't on the app. So my carbs and cals are lower for Monday :-/

  7. Hi ladies! I'm in the NW burbs I just got my date' date=' nov 4th! I'd love to get to know some people in the area going through the same thing![/quote']

Hey in from NW burbs too. Private message me, I'm always willing to get to know people experiencing this with.

    Talk soon

  8. Everyone has a different experience. Many of us have not felt sick or stuck very often if at all. I am 7 months out and have only PB'd once and have felt "stuck" a few other times but it went down after a minute or two. I have never felt nauseous or thrown up. I do feel like I have done so well because I am following the rules' date=' which leads to the best banding outcome. Good luck =)[/quote']

What's the diff between PB and a regular burp. Like every since surgery I now have burps after I eat. In a way it's my body's way of telling me I'm done. So I don't get the difference?

  9. Im a little over a week post op and I went through the depressed stage too and i thought I was the only one! I thought why did I do this? I cant sleep and the pain isnt worth it! I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldnt eat what my family was eating and I only had a few choices of what I could eat...I was miserable but I got through it. I got switched to "mushies" and went back to work in the same day and I feel so much better and cant wait to truly start losing! Im so sorry for what your going through...I hope things get better for you!

If be careful about abruptly stopping antidepressants, that is extremely unsafe. It can contribute to increased depression. Be careful

  10. Thank you all.

I am SO GRATEFUL I've lost 1-2 this week. I just wanted to make sure that's ok.

I can probably guarantee I am grossly under cals. I take it at most 800 a day which is a gross over estimate. I don't get anywhere close to the 50-60g of Protein with what I'm eating.

My md doesn't want me drinking Protein shakes because they are "liquid calories". Also my nutritionist first want me focusing on cal right now since I'm grossly below. She said to more focus on that when I'm eating and have adjusted post op. I try so hard to eat more Protein but I'm full and do not want to push it. So I stop when I'm "done" and not "full".

The process begins. This months goal, focus a million x's more on working out beyond work hustle and bustle and my volleyball league.

It's a marathon and I'm excited for it.

  11. Hey ques.

This is not a complaining post either. I have significantly decreased in the amount of weight I've lost since starting mushed foods. In 10 days I've lost a solid 1lb, but depending on the day it'll be 2. I haven't been working out as much as I should but I have gone back to work. 3 12hr days a week in a busy ER.

My typical day is as follows

    Breakfast

An egg and a turkey sausage with 1tbsp of hollandaise sauce

    lunch

2-3oz of ground turkey with taco seasoning with low fat shredded cheese and 3/4 tbsp of light sour cream

    dinner

2-3 oz of stuffed peppers (lean ground sirloin) with less than 1/4 of a green pepper and about 1/2 cup of the Tomato Soup it was cooked in. NO RICE

No pop no Snacks. This is all I'm hungry for. But my weight loss went from 5 a week to 1-2lbs in 10 days. Don't get me wrong I am very happy in losing, just wondering what I'm doing wrong.

    Sam

  12. Rice is one of the foods I have not =been able to eat since my 2nd fill almost 3 years ago....so no matter how much I may crave it...one swallow and the craving is quickly replaced with something else....thus forever solving that head hunger issue! It's that way for many other things also.

Well that sounds slightly horrible. I'm going to stay hopeful that I will be able to tolerate most of my favs. I fail on "diets" and cutting things out. If I didn't, I wouldn't have Needed the surgery. However I am realistic and I do know there may be things I don't tolerate. I just hope it's not forever. The thing with sushi for me is, I take off the rice and seaweed and still get all the same great tastes and my craving is solved and a million x's healthier

    Thanks for the help though

  13. I am craving sushi bad. When I eat it, I order rolls without the rice. I can eat flaky fish right now. I was wondering when people who eat sushi introduced this or tried it again? I was eating sushi like 2x a week at least. I haven't had it in a month and it's hard. I know I can have it again. I was just wondering when people had it. Again I DONT eat the rice so basically is fish an vegis. Any suggestions?

  14. This may be a dumb question.

Since surgery I have this burp tht just happens. It comes mostly after I know I'm done eating. Sown times when changing positions too. My surgeon said this may never go away but it's not harmful. Question is, is this considered productive burping or not? If not, what's the difference? Is pb dangerous?

  15. I'm only 2.5 weeks post op. I've been asked on 2 dates since being banded and they do not know of my decision with the band. I'm kinda nervous how to get around this. The one suggested coffee so it's perfect. The other suggested dinner or drinks. Any suggestions on how to avoid that or do I just tell him my restrictions right now? Suggestions. I suppose if we go to a place with salmon I'll be fine, don't have to purée it. Help

  16. You are actually SHOCKING ME MORE each time you respond to a post' date=' and you SAY you are a nurse. I am happy I've never been at a hospital where you work ....lol...use COMMON sense here...WHY would Allergan PRE FILL A BAND? Use your brain please. Allergan DOES NOT pre fill lap band...that IS NOT THEIR JOB... Right before surgery, they fill the band up with saline and check for any defects, and leaks...to ensure they are not installing a faulty band inside of a patient..and once they've tested the band they leave a little primer Fluid inside the band...AND NOT enough saline to qualify for a REAL FILL.... Some patients have a lot of swelling, it can take 1-3 months before all the swelling completely go away, and if the band is not too small for that person's anatomy, then after about 3-4 months that person will be ready for a REAL FILL... Also many patients have a fat pad around their stomachs and after losing weight, their bands will loosen up even further....those who's band is too tight for their anatomy....their bands will barely budge and will still be too tight regardless of how much they lose.... Here are some step by step instructions how the band filled up with saline, to test for defects: during band installation -- the AP band is blown up to the max with 15cc of saline and typically about 5cc is left in the band...I had 5cc of saline in my lap band post surgery... Now You learned something today...and hopefully you can add that to your RN resume.... http://www.lapband.c...band AP_dfu.pdf For the Scrub Tech/rN: 1. After the Circulator opens outer LAP-BAND AP® System package, pick up inner sterile container by the tab and put on back table in a secure location. 2. Peel outer wrapping at the yellow indicator on the bottom side of the Tyvek® and remove LAP-BAND AP® System and priming needle. 3. Connect priming needle to the LAP-BAND AP® System tubing end. 4. Fill a 20 cc syringe with at least 15 cc of saline and connect syringe to the priming needle. Flush the band and inflatable shell area several times, each time drawing out air bubbles. A residual amount of saline will stay in the LAP-BAND AP® System. 5. View the inflatable portion of the band for leaks or uneven inflation. 6. Inject about 5 cc saline and disconnect the syringe. The
Love the ignorance. Just because I'm an RN does not make me proficient in lap bands, nor do I claim to be. I have taken care of maybe 3 patients with the band. Honestly didn't know anything about it until I met with my surgeon. Just because one is in the medical field does not mean they know everything about everything. I personally don't care about the OR procedure, as I'm not an OR nurse or surgeon. I leave that stuff to those in that field. I prefers more reputable forms of information, than a .com can provide one. Anyone and their brother can come up with .com sites. Hence I don't really listen to any of you're knowledge - you're not proficient, nor a professional. I'm gonna leave that stuff to my surgeon. Hence the suggestions "talk to your surgeon". To be completely honest, I would HOPE the manufacturer of the lap band or any other gastric bands would test their product with saline before packaging them up and shipping them out. I'd actually put money on the fact that they do. I am proud to say I am an ER RN at a very busy and reputable level 1 trauma center in the Chicagoland area, you've prob heard of it. So I am extremely intelligent and educated. I also and open to knowledgeable info and research that my surgeon and the professionals will provide me on this lap band... Thanks
