  1. Pre op 1 month diet? I start my 2 weeks liquid diet on nov 22nd when I go see my surgeon. Then the day of magic on dec 10th.

Yes, I did 1 month prior to lap band. I'm not doing it this time, I was struggling last night for real. lol I need to lose 10 lbs by Dec 2nd. So, hopefully I can do the liquid 2 1/2 weeks before surgery date and still lose the 10 lbs for insurance approval. I may just be getting the band removed on the 10th if my insurance gives me probs.

  2. Ok. I wonder if anyone has had this experience with FEPB.

I'm having lap band revision to sleeve or RNY. I call the insurance company on Wednesday of last week and the guy said I was approved. All excited... didn't rush into anything until the next day.

I get a call from my doctors office Friday saying that they need more documentation ( 3 month diet plan, psych eval, etc.) I never had to have all this when I had my lap band in 2010 so I was fuming because I already purchased airline tickets for family members to come down to Texas for surgery.

I called the insurance and they sent out two letters. One that is approving the procedure for lap band removal. The 2nd letter is coded for the sleeve/rny and it says before they can look at it need the 3 month diet, etc.

So, I call... and I told the lady what happened and she had referred it to the person that sent the letters out to look at it. She called me back and I explained to her basically you are approving one surgery and you are pretty much going to force me into doing two surgeries. She was so persistent on the documentation telling me over and over they need that. I asked her do you even look at the cost of two surgeries and does that justify me not having to do the 3 month, diet. etc. She said they do but that they still need the documentation?????

Has anyone gotten through this problem without having to jump through hoops?

  4. Today is my first day on diet. I bought ready made shakes Optifast brand. ... ive had the powders in the past but I need to ready made cause of my schedule. I just cut up half sandwich bags of carrots, bell pepper, and Tomato for work if I get a craving for something crunchy. And also one boiled egg and two shakes. Work should be fine but when I get off at 12 will be when the battle starts lol ill prob just have a shake after work and an egg and take something to knock my ass out lol

  5. I just did research and I want a for sure slam dunk so this battle can finally be over. Sleeve is not reversible and I believe rny is. Plus I want more malabsorbtion that rny gives. I just did not want to go through another revision surgery as I'm having to do with this band. You will be fine. .. no worries. I was terrified of this and now I'm sorta at peace with it. It is tough and im sure many understand. Just think about how much better you will feel with no complications.

  6. i had a bomb dropped on me yesterday. I called insurance Wednesday, the guy said I was approved. I waited a day and booked flights for fam to come here for surgery.

Then yesterday, I get a call from docs office that they want 3 month diet and a psych eval.

So I call my insurance 3 times trying to sway them and I was pretty close but it didn't work. They sent out two letters... one approving my lap band removal but for the gastric they want more documentation. My disagreement with them was, why would you approve one and not the other? It's cheaper to do both in one surgery. And, I told her if I don't get approved for RNY in time for my Dec 10th surgery date and of course i'm going to get approved eventually even if after the Dec 10th.... You already approved me for the removal of lap band, and you are then forcing me to do two surgeries. Do you look at the cost of that? Can't you justify it to the company for the cost? She said they do look at cost but they still need the documentation for RNY.

So, I had to rush to my doc this morning so he could document more.... and then I have to go in Dec 2nd for another visit and then they will submit again to insurance.

Either way i'm having surgery on the 10th even if it's to remove the lap band. My insurance can eat the cost of it.... lol

  7. I've had my surgery date for about 3 weeks now, December 10th. My doctors office submitted paperwork to my insurance this week on Monday and I called the next day and was approved! So easy.... I feel so glad that it went through so smooth like that with no pre-reqs.

I go to the hospital on the 11th to have all the testing I guess. Pre op appt is two weeks before surgery. Wonder what is in store for me on pre-op diet. Last time for the lap band I had to do one month all liquids. I did really good though so hopefully this will be a piece of cake.

  8. my doc is performing my surgery of band removal lap, and then doing the actual RNY with a robot. for the FIRST time! my hands are sweating just saying it! HA! im just letting go of my fears though and accepting that God is in total control. if its my time- its my time. we will all be fine. this band has Got to Go. if you think about it- we have all HAD complications....thats why its getting removed. but we are still here. living and breathing and telling our stories. hang in there and God Bless you!

    when is your surgery?

  9. I'm just curious..what are all the labs and stuff you have to do before surgery?

Also, my past lap band surgery I was on liquids for a month (protein shakes, broth, etc.)

I guess I find out two weeks before surgery what my doc wants me to do as far as diet. But, I want to be proactive and start this weekend. I wonder if doing the Protein Shakes, broth, and if I'm dying maybe boil and egg or two to kinda have something REAL to eat? Are eggs bad?

  10. Well, I got approved by insurance and the doctors office called me and said I hadn't been seen in a while and needed to come in for a follow up. I went in and found out there were a bunch of labs I needed to have done that they never told me about. The doctor said that was the only thing keeping me from being scheduled. I have been on the phone with the doctors office for months trying to find out if there is anything I needed to get done. They never mentioned that. So I've had the labs done, got them sent to the doctor and now I'm waiting for the doctor to review my file and send it on to the surgeons. I was told that would take a few days to a week and that was on Monday. If I don't hear anything tomorrow from them I'm going to have to call and bug them again next Monday. I want this done!

What kind of labs did you have done? My doc already scheduled surgery on 11/5 but I guess I find out about the labs on my follow-up appt on 10/25.

  11. No slippage but developed a hiatial hernia and had to get unfilled. Couldn't keep anything down while filled, even spit was difficult. Hoping for a late nov, early dec surgery date.

im in the same boat but slippage 2 years ago... total unfill...gained all the 60lbs I lost back plus 20 more. No other complications. Ive thought about pushing my date back... let me know when you get approved. Maybe change mine...
