  1. I just have to say i LOVE this site.. i just went from a lonely user of MFP to having a bunch of friends in less than a day WOW.. Now next step is how to encourage each other using the app
  2. ok how do you find folks with just the user name Never mind i found it
  3. it seems that some of us will lose inches before any real lbs.. for the last week i have lost and gained the same 5lbs which had the capicity to drive me insane until i stood back and took notice of the shape of my body and the feel of my pants. i too at 3wks post ops had hopes for a bigger drop on the scale.. but i'll take the inches lost and will celebrate them for the success they are.. I know that as long as i continue to eat less calories than i burn off the weight will drop.. i just have to be patient recovery from surgery has been slow i still get a lot of pain from my port area but it is slowly decreasing as each day passes.. we will get there.. we just have to remember this isn't a miracle weight loss program it takes hard work and dedication to be a success. I have myfitnesspal on my phone also.. intelirish@hotmail.com is my email if you want to befriend me
  4. O MG next week when i get my first fill can't come soon enough I've had to survive 2 tailgating parties and my baby's 10th birthday.. i thought i would crack under the pressure - with all the wonderful food put out and that MY GOD's is that all your eating i thought i'd smack a few folks... especially the way my weight has yo'yod up and down around the same 5lbs this last week...
  5. I have had this problem with my weight since i moved to the mushie part of the diet post op. i have dropped and gained the same 5lbs for the last week. it has been so hard watching the scale i keep telling myself it doesn't matter right now i'm still healing - wonderful folks on this site have told me the same thing it's all about how your body reacts to diets.. it needs to get just enough calories to let the weight go.. but that's a hard balance to find...but i'm hoping is something that will come with time.
  6. I get that too. it comes and goes and different things trigger it. but i was told as long as the pain goes with rest there is nothing to worry about. it's just the muscles adjusting. i have to admit it gave me quite a scare though when it first happened.
  7. i know i'm a worry monger.. which is why i haven't called the doc.. and i absolutely love the support that i get from this site knowing that if i'm being an idiot that those with the wisdom and experience will share with me and make me feel much calmer. the pain is tolerable mostly it's the evil food loving voice inside my head is what i'm having the most difficulty in dealing with. deep calming breaths. i'm just going to focus on the good things.. has any one else notice how amazing your skin feels after a month of detox?
  8. So here I am basically 2 wks post op. for the most part I am doing ok. However there are something’s that make me wonder.. my port site still is causing a lot of discomfort from a mild pain to a sharp stabbing like pain if I turn or bend in just the wrong way.. weight loss has stopped.. in fact put a few lbs back on and I can now feel it when I eat mushy food. I’m eating small bites and slowly but there is almost immediate discomfort nothing really serious but enough that I go hummm. I have my post op follow up on Tuesday was thinking of going back to more of a liquid diet until then.. I know my body is adjusting still.. just wish the pain and aches would go away so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if it's all just part of the process....
  9. Today although it's not like it wasn't apparent before ... i truly realized how blessed i am to work where i do. For the 1st week post surgery my manager supported 100% my working a reduced schedule at home with no impact to pay.. Being back in the office was less of a hindrance than i thought along with being chased home around 2pm everyday with the words go home and rest and heal..My work environment is amazing.. my desk is height adjustable so that i can go from sitting to standing at my desk easily so that i can take the pressure of the port incision so that it won't hurt as much. to they gym facilities where i can walk on the thread mil for as long as i want while i take a meeting on the phone. To the cafe with their long list of healthy/organic food options. to the AMAZING laptop bag our admin just ordered so that i don't have to carry my laptop around - given that it's pretty darn heavy.. I AM BLESSED..
  10. I know right now i shouldn't be too concerned or worried about where the number on the scale is especially considering i'm not even 2wks post op yet.. BUT... i started eating mushes this weekend and have been in heaven with the scrambled eggs, cauliflower etc etc but this morning show'd that i had actually gained weight. Firstly i was shocked at how much that gain affected me all i wanted to do was to climb back into bed and hide. i'm sure i'm not alone and this weight fluctuation is perfectly normal as my body adjusts but it was still quite shocking to see a number i was never expecting....
  11. god i can't wait for it.. i'm down almost 20 of the 50 i said i wanted to lose before i got on that plane..we'll be kicking it up before you know it.
  12. Hey I thought I was your special Irish buddy... :-) kidding as. Zingythingy said all buddies welcome on this journey.
  13. as M.simpson said you are not alone.. i'm about a week post op but at the 3 day mark i like many others before and yet to come was doing the WTF conversation with myself. The Gas was terrible for me nothing seemed to work even now i still have some residual issues.. but for the most part it has finally gone. As for going to the bathroom.. i thought that was never going to happen but you need to remember that and especially depending on what kind of pre op diet you where on before your surgery you have been pumping mostly liquids in to your body so there is little to no solid matter to get rid off. at about day 4 i got a little worried and took some milk of maginisea... waited a few hrs and let's just say the result was a little anticlimax You will begin to feel more human as the days go by.. especially when you can add some regular food to your day.. i started mushies yesterday and am really feeling more myself today. However if drinking Fluid makes you feel restricted/sick call your Doc..
  14. thanks all not much sleep had last night i just seemed to move from recliner to sofa to bed and back again. the port area was just extra twitchy last night that i just couldn't find that sleep spot. will work on getting the pillows out but my trouble is I've always been a play soccer in my sleep kinda of girl that sleeping still just doesn't come easy.. here's to hoping for a quick heal, but other wise i'm doing good.. today i get to move on to the next fazed in my post op diet.. not sure what i want to try first cream of wheat ... hummus or something else decisions decision decisions .
  15. So here I am about a week post opp and I'm still sleeping in a recliner. I decided enough was enough earlier and went to lie down in my bed all went fine at first settled in on my right side feel a sleep almost right away then woke up about an hour later in pain. I had turned over in my sleep. The muscle the port is attached too was having none of it. Is any one else having trouble sleeping? Any suggestions on how to get to sleep in a bed vs a recliner.... as don't want to be stuck in this chair

so i read the following words today on Facebook no less.. but they made me stop and pause.... A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the "half empty or half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: "How heavy is this glass of water?" Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes." She continued, "The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything." Remember to put the glass down. They are certainly words that should make you pause and think.. what is it that i carry with me each and every day .. Yes i should look to the future but today it's here and now and if i can just learn to live in the moment knowing i'm doing the best i can shouldn't that take care of everything? Knowing that each food choice is as healthy as it can be in that moment of choice that we should just accept each choice for what it is and move on to the next not dwelling on why did i's? I've spent so much time on the why did i's that it became natural for me to start on the well why not one more can't hurt... for me it's time to put the Glass down.. accept that on occasion it is ok to feed the wild side.. but to also accept the fact i need to feed the smarter healthier side a little more often..
  17. That is so me too. last night i woke up with the worse hunger pains i have ever felt.. It felt so bad that at first i thought it had to be something else.. thankfully i'm allowed pudding at this stage post op so there i was at 3am eating a cup of pudding which did in fact cure the hunger pains and allow me to go back to sleep. Right now i'm just fixated on being allowed to eat scrambled eggs.. only a few more days and i can start adding things with a little thicker consistency i'm down 12lbs since i started the pre op diet so i'm all happy with that. i know the WL right now is stunted from one.. not enough calories being consumed and that my body is still adjusting. looking forward to being on solids. being able to do more than walk Stay strong we can do this.
  18. hey there i'm 4 days out still on liquids and jello or pudding. although today after some jello i have what feels like really bad indigestion with out the acid re-flux.. my stomach again feels really bloated and the dreaded left arm pain is back with no mercy.. not sure if eating the jello caused it all or it's just bad timing but now i'm a little afraid to try anything other that straight liquids again have either of you had this?
  19. Hey congrats i was banded 9/19 and spent half of today trying to work from home.. some what of a failure.. mostly due to a lack of discipline on my part I'm feeling pretty great was of the meds also with in two day's mostly because they actually made me very nauseous. and nothing worked for the gas pain that is still with me grrr.. don't think i'll make the 2 weeks i'm allowed to work from home will probably end up going in next week. i mostly just did not want to share this part of my transition with every one at work. i know right now it looks like i'm not eating enough to sustain a grasshopper but with shakes and puddings and jello i feel like i have a virtual feast. REALLY looking forward to adding mushes to my diet..but that won't be till sometime next week dreams of hummus and scrambled egg's is what keeps me going.
  20. I had my surgery on 9/19 and was what I thought a total basket case before hand. Try not to dwell to much on the surgery but on the new life u will be starting. On the new you that you will be afterwards hopefully the staff at the surgery center will be as great as mine where as I know they helped a lot in getting me clam good luck and positive thoughts
  21. So here i am 4 day's post op and feeling pretty good considering.. hunger is controlled with little to no food.. first time EVER i'm sure this is more a result of the swelling more than the band but if its a good indication of what's ahead and how i'll manage life will be good..any way i digress .... my daughter and her friend had decided to go into town for some much deserved frozen yogurt.. not sure what they did to deserve it but when her friends barely one week old new to her car would not start after she came by to pick her up the look of disappointment was more than this mom could manage so while the dad's tried to figure out the car issue... she agreed and is blaming it on the med's she's not actually taking any more.... to allow her daughters friend to drive her car into town and get some yogurt.. and went with them again "insert meds".... the drive into town was mostly mom change the IPOD no not that song.. geeze mom it's still on repeat to crap there goes my shake all over the floor of my car.. i was surprised by my TOTAL lack of interest in anything at the frozen yogurt place.. the journey home was much more quite but a lot more bouncy having taken a different route home.. Lesson learned those important decisions they as you NOT to make immediately post op.. perhaps they should extend it to the weekend i survived it was a trip.. but i'm glad it's over... heart back in chest.
  22. it's certainly worth a try.. i was sooooooooo happy to reach the shake part of my diet as i don't think i can live on broth for another week. although i do feel like i'm cheating when i had my yummy SF pudding.. OMG never thought that it could taste so good.. who need junk when you can have SF pudding .. but at only 4 days post op i so do not want to do anything i shouldn't and am happy to take it slow. thanks for the tip i'm going to try it now..
  23. So i can't remember if i was told to avoid cold liquids for 2 days or 2wks. but my diet plan allows me to move on to protein shakes today..and well the room temp shake makes me want to gag.. i'm can drink them just fine when chilled but like this.. it's just torture.. was any one else told to avoid cold liquids? if so for how long..
  24. Glad you doing OK. i was banded yesterday not so lucky here with the gas pain.. it has stayed with me pretty much since i woke up yesterday.. but other than thank i'm doing pretty well. I'm still not sure what i can can't drink so I've been sticking with water and Green tea but might try the no calorie Gatorade. I think I've done enough laps around my house to wear the carpet out if i still had any downstairs.. The walking seems to wear me out fast but i'm getting the best sleep i've had in a long time. though i'm sure the med are helping - here's hoping for a speedy recovery for us all.
