    Beginning Plateau

The road to weight loss is never a straight path. There are many twists, tutns, and PLATEAUS (or "stalls") along the way...... so, yes, completely normal. I, personally, avoid a lot of the let down associated with a stall, by not weighing daily or even weekly. I'm seven years older than you, and I can say that I let that scale rule my life for 53 years. A year ago, well before my surgery, I made up my mind to weight monthly, at my doctor's office only....... very liberating for ME. The thoughts behind a stall is that your body is "catching up" with all that is happening to it. I have done a lot of reading about stalls and plateaus. There are several thought process behind what one can do to get weight loss going again...... Carb cycling, low calorie days followed by a day or two with a higher calorie intake, changing exercise routines. Look into High Intentesity Intervals Trainng as far as cardio goes. Just know that this is temporary. You will start losing again.. We all want quick weight loss. I opted to take this journey as it comes. The weight will come off, unfortuanately on its own terms though! Best Wishes!

  3. It dawned on me this morning, how I'm now sort of close to my WEDDING DAY WEIGHT. (and yes, I know probably every single one of you remembers your weight at a specific time or event in your life.......LOL). I've been married going on 26 years, and I weighed at my highest, one hundred and thirty-seven pounds more than I did on my wedding day. That means, I averaged gaining about FIVE POUNDS A YEAR. Doesn't seem like that much, I mean, it's only five pounds......... We all read post after post about "I'm not losing fast enough." How many times have I researched weight loss and talked to doctors and nurses who tell us that a good month's weight loss is about 1 - 2 pounds per week, or about FIVE POUNDS A MONTH. Again, it doesn't seem like that much, I mean, it's only five pounds....... The point I'm trying to make is this.. ... Celebrate and congratulate yourself for each five pounds you've lost. It's such a huge accomplishment when you sit back and think about it. FIVE POUNDS is nothing to whine over. And if it takes you two to three months to lose that next five pounds, so be it..... The weight didn't get put on overnight, and the weight isn't going to come off overnight either!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hey gowalking, We just finished with two weeks of Jazz Fest here in the Big Easy. Now gearing up for the end of the school year for two of my kids, a college graduation for one kid, and a celebratory CRAWFISH BOIL in her honor. This time last year, I was on my two weeks of liquid Protein shakes required by the medical research facility, as part of my lap band surgery...... We threw a crawfish boil then too for another kid's graduation....... It was by far one of the hardest NO food DAYS I ever went through. This year, I'll be able to eat those CRAWFISH, but only a small amount...... thanks to my beautiful band! Hope all is well with my NYC buddy!

    EASY WAY OUT, MY @$$

I always think of having an epidural as the EASY WAY OUT of labor and delivery....... I had FOUR EPIDURALS!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Sorry to hear about your separation..... A huge life change going on while you were trying to change your life, that's for sure. I've read numerous times that the band is there to be worked when you're ready to work with it. If it were me, I'd get back into the doctor's office for a nice long visit, and see where I'd stand as far as fills ago. Then, I'd get back to band basics..... Regularly scheduled fill appointments. Maybe go on a week of liquids. Up the Water intake and the exercise routine. Log onto a food diary, like MyFitnessPal. Cut out the carbs and the crappy, refined foods. Recommit to living a day at a time. Continue reading posts from this site, and reaching out like you're doing now. Look at it as a DO-OVER. Time to focus on YOURSELF! Best Wishes!

    I am 53 and lapbanded on 9/20/12.

cleesscruggs, I don't know if you were asking that question to the original poster or me....... I set a daily calorie goal on MyFitnessPal, and I try to avoid carbs as much as possible. Bread and sweets are a trigger food for me, so I choose not to bring them in the house. Most of the time, the band helps me with portion size and no hunger inbetween meals.....exactly what it's supposed to do. Best Wishes!

  15. You know how "you just know it" when you meet the "right" person, or when you're having a great day? No one can explain it to you or describe it to you, except through their own experience...... But, when you experience it, "YOU JUST KNOW IT!" That's how being GREEN is for me.... I read about it ( a lot), I heard others talk about it (a lot), I researched it (a lot), but now..... I JUST KNOW IT! And now I know why I NEEDED to wait these few months before I found MY sweet spot. For me, I needed my brain to catch up with reality. I don't think I was ready (mentally) for the truly small portions I am now eating. Thankful that "I'M GREEN AT LAST!"
  16. Gotta love my new Yankee friend, lisacaron...... She hit the nail right on the head as far as your doctor and the breakup goes.

How much weight should one lose in a week?

Four to eight pounds a month is what I've read and what I've been told by both my surgeon and my nurse practitioner. I have only weighed monthly since this journey began eight months ago, and I've personally lost as little as three pounds in a month, and as much as nine in a month. Of course....... EVERY PERSON IS DIFFERENT. I think you're off to a great start!

    I'm so happy!

I'm so happy for your upcoming trip...... We want details when you get back..... and PHOTOS!
  21. Yes, you will succeed. I'm probalbly a lot older than you, and that makes me want to offer all kinds of "words of wisdom" about your broken off friendship, but I won't because it is what it is..... a broken off friendship....... and only time heals that. NOT food, BUT TIME ! Food does not heal you. It is meant to nourish you...... So try choosing the foods that NOURISH you and not the ones that put you in a trance, like the sugars and starches!. The best gift you can give yourself is a HEALTHY YOU! Since I was a certified COUCH POTATO for three decades of my life (so I never would have believed this during those years), I can now say that I use EXERCISE as a way out of depression, anxiety, and as a way to ZONE OUT (at least temporarily! The junk food and comfort food is just a temporary numbing fix, so why not switch that addiction to something that does the same thing, but is more healthy. The bottom line is that YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE RIGHT NOW. You can do this! Six months from now, you may still have this broken friendship, but six months from now you can find yourself healthier or defeated...... I vote for HEALTHIER. My Best Wishes!

How are you doing, Carol? I've thought of you often since you posted this. Any updates?

    2 Year Bandiversary

I'm sure your list could have been a lot longer...... So many things people without extra poundage take for granted, and each of those things is a gift we gave ourselves when we lost this baggage. I love reading posts from people who are far out from their surgery date...... It offers me encouragement that this life long journey to being healthy is very doable.
  24. Made it through my first two week long vacation better than I have in the past, but not quite as well as I would have liked. Did not exercise at a gym, which was available at my hotel, but walked and walked around NYC every day. No wonder I didn't see too many overweight New Yorkers...... they WALK everywhere! Wished I would have gotten to the gym everyday, for it does give me the added energy boost that I now crave. Skipped all of the stops my friends made at different bakeries, and didn't feel like I missed out on any of that, because I am SOOOOO OVER SUGAR! Ate at very odd times, but tried to make good Protein choices as often as possible. Carried Protein Bars in my purse in case of a need, and I did share and eat them a few times. Ate pizza for the first time in two years...... Loved every bite, but the band kept me from having more than a slice, so that was great. Continued to log into MyFitnessPal every day. Exceeded my calorie goal every day, but only by a few hundred calories and because I didn't know how to log in the calories expended for daily walking. Met up with GoWalking and LisaCaron for coffee, and that was an AWESOME experience...... to actually meet two BariatricPal posters in person. Overall, this trip is in the memory bank and I know that I can continue to live the banded life even when I'm not home and not in my daily routine!!!!!!! LOTS OF RAMBLING, HUH?

How do you find a balance? (#bodylove)

I'm older than you, so take this comment coming from an older woman. I accepted myself "fatter," "bigger," "plus-sized,"..... however you want to say it. I wore bathing suits and went swimming during the summer....because I was hot and I wanted to swim. I wore shorts and short sleeves..... because I live in the Deep South, and frankly, it gets freaking hot down here. So, I accepted myself as was and I can truly say I probably still would have been accepting myself........ but then, I started to get to the point that my joints were hurting, I couldn't take care of my personal hygiene properly, my family vacations required frequent rest stops because I couldn't walk around and carry my 327 pound self all over a city or amusement park. I'm pretty sure diabetes and high blood pressure issues were in my future. So, I did this FOR MY HEALTH AND WELL BEING. Life is about balance.....you got that right. May you find the balance you are searching for!
