    Stalled

dear determined2b, I am almost 14 months out and about 6wks past a 4 and 1/2 month long stall! not fun!!!! I decided to stay focused and ride it out with as much grace as I could muster...it worked. I have started losing about a pound per week which is about what I was losing...or up to two pounds per week.... I lose very slowly due to no exercise. I was bedridden for over 5 yrs just before my surgery...april 15, 2014. my 46 yr old son died and 11 months later my 45 yr old son-in-law also passed away. I know absolutely these two boys are with the Lord along with four other children I have lost. if you're interested in my story, e mail me at kmre2291@yahoo.com and i'll talk with you about it. my precarious health broke completely, thus no energy, constant debilitating level pain. but now I'm up and going nearly full speed ahead! I am feeling the best I have EVER felt and I have passed birthday number 74!! I have lost 84 pounds and think I want to drop at least 22 more. I'm enjoying fun, new SMALLER clothes...down to an 8-10 top and bottom. side benefits to the surgery...not the weight loss, but the surgery, is that I no longer have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or incontinence. you hang in there. know your body is on your side and WILL lose the weight as everything adjusts. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska

I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND ANY SURGERY BUDDIES IN FAIRBANKS. WOULD ALSO ENJOY EMAILS. kmre2291@yahoo.com

    Hit first plateau. Help?

I had an eight week stall plus two pound gain during months 5 and six post op. The discouragement was intense. I allowed myself to vent the emotional stress which helped. I searched for answers. My breakthrough came when I added magnesium tablets to my vit/minerals. Weight started dropping in 24 hours. If you decide to try this, be sure you clear it with your medical team. I am again losing approximately two pounds a week. I am a slow loser due to physical conditions which make it impossible for me to do any exercises. Do well.

Hi,how are you doing? I'm almost seven months out which doesn't seem possible. I've just broken an 8 week stall a week ago. I had lost nothing, gained 2# which I did lose. what broke the stall for me was adding magnesium to my vit/minerals. This week I've lost 2.8 pounds which is a big loss for me. due to health issues, I can't exercise. I have discovered N.E.A.T. for exercise which I'm reading up on. My basic mobility has improved so that's exciting. I'm 73 yrs old and have lost 65 pounds. Blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska
  7. As my daughter reminded me, in my imperfection how important I(and you ) are to every plant on the planet. Every time we breathe out, a plant breathes in our life giving carbon monoxide and shouts with joy! Karen in the woods of Alaska

    NSV - my garden

Outside gardening!!! I have two pots of peppers in my house which have now died thanks to a jerk who came to visit and politely repotted them without even talking to me about it! Thus, dead peppers. HOWEVER, I have two little plants that are red bell peppers I'm hoping will yield a bit of winter fruit. Life is interesting. I am handicapped so very limited in even moving around the house. I've just found the NEAT program. Worth looking into for anyone challenged in the exercise arena. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska
  9. Also, I live in Alaska. I've lost 62 pounds...pre op and post op combined. I am 73 yrs old and nearly totally bed bound but losing and happy.
  10. I restarted a particular med for fibromyalgia with a known side effect of weight gain/water retention. Sure enough, after 6 days on med, I was up a full three pounds. two tenths down today. Accepting the possibility has kept me ok. I'll keep moving down. my stats on this site are incorrect. I had rny not sleeve, April 15, 2014.

    Ak - Fairbanks

hi I live near Fairbanks kmre2291@yahoo.com
  12. I asked for a recommendation for a surgeon from a diabetic specialist. His very curt reply was, "Nobody in this town!" So, on the internet I went. I found my surgeon nearly 1,000 miles round trip from my location but still within Alaska where I live. Very satisfied with my choice. Karen in the woods of Alaska

    Let's get acquainted.

well...a few of us! I had roux-en y two weeks before my 73rd birthday. my first question to my surg. was, "am I too old?" he said as long as my regular gp felt I was in good enough health to expect another three to five years of life, he would consider me for the bypass. I am now 4.5 mo. post op and doing well. I am a slow loser...nearly bed bound so very little exercise. my gp still wants me on one diabetes med even though my numbers meet my bypass surgeon's criteria for being free from it. and my blood pressure is normal for the first time since I was 18! I have lost 58 pounds and am happy with that. my body is so broken by fibromyalgia, scoliosis, sciatica on both sides, arthritis, spontaneous spinal fusion, four strokes, two heart attacks, ...I'm quite surprised the surg. would operate. I was also under a diagnosis for multiple sclerosis for 11 yrs which was lifted about six moths before the op. when I went into surg., I knew my gall bladder was leaving but...wow!...what a mess was found when they got inside! the robot and Dr. Todd found I had a Petersen's defect. my intestines had herniated and wrapped round and round and round my stomach. The surgery lasted six hours. When I woke up, a headache I had had for over 50 years was gone! What a miracle! Apparently, from my research, the hernia was started by my pregnancy with my first child who weighed over nine pounds. So we older ones do have our stories to tell. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska

    Needs Encouragement

dear angela, you are an injured warrior in a battle for your LIFE...not your life. AND you are winning! each moment brings you closer to your own victory parade. give your guy a big hug, kiss, handshake, pat on the head, from all of us out here who appreciate our support troops and the part they play in our victories. just wait until you start celebrating your non scale victories. my big one right now is that I weigh less than my husband for the first time in our 29 yrs/9 mo. together. he is my tall, skinny toyboy and I love and appreciate him truly more every day. I am 4.5 months roux-en y post op and have lost 58 pounds. I am 73...well, really 17 yrs old, can barely walk, thus a slow loser. being a slow loser gives my skin a better chance to be firmer which is a positive. this really is a "onder"ful adventure blessings, Karen in the getting colder woods of Alaska
  15. dear one, excited, I'm sure. and to take this adventure with your son! if my son was still alive, I would be doing this with him. he was a chiropractic physician and became very ill with diabetes and heart issues. then while playing old man hockey as it is called in Alaska, he broke his back. without being able to exercise, he passed away within a few months. I grieve his loss but know he is with the Lord and well. I just know you and your son will enjoy taking this journey together. I am 4.5 months post op, roux-en y, and have lost 58 pounds. I am a slow loser, but at age 73 and unable to exercise and barely walk, I am feeling very spiffy! each day is a fun victory. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska kmre2291@yahoo.com

    Urinary Incontinence

assume you're saying incontinence improved. this was my experience within a few days post op. such a relief.
  17. would love to communicate. best for me is by e-mail. mine is kmre2291@yahoo.com I have just broken a stall. I am 4.5 months post op. I only lost 2 pounds...whole month of august, 2014.... I accept slow loss...should be my name...due to inability to walk enough to exercise. I broke the stall by adding more than a tablespoon of coconut oil per day since aug. 29th. thus, I have lost a tick under five pounds since sept 1st. blessings, Karen in the woods of alaska putting extra blankets on the bed as winter begins in earnest.
  18. post op report...now 68 days out from surgery and I have had a complete miracle! surgery was scheduled to do gastric bypass and gall bladder removal if needed. was all set for those but when dr got inside with da vinci robot...wow! dr found small intestine looped round and round my stomach!!! I had what is called a Petersen defect! I ended up with an almost six hour surgery which has changed my life. I am now able to walk all over the house without a cane or a walker and do some housework and cooking! I am at the point of moving from my hospital bed in the living room back to our bedroom where I will be able to sleep with my husband for the first time all night in almost five years!! other health issues continue my need for the living room bed where I will continue to rest my back during the day. I am praising God for my renewed life. had a great surgeon who has a large picture in his office showing Jesus guiding a surgeon's hands as he operates. going to be taking a three week trip with friends in an rv next month...through Canada to Seattle and back...about 4000 miles. I am a slow loser but still happy with loss...40 + since pre op...going to remodel cloths as I go along. about six months before surg, I bought over $3000.00 worth of cloths for about $2000.00 by shopping catalog sales. I have always lived with maybe three outfits and so just plain splurged. have always had to wear clothes that were to large because of pain in my body so all these clothes are HUGE on me now. what fun. if anyone wants to communicate e-mail is kmre2291@yahoo.com. blessings, Karen
  19. found out at my post op checkup with dr yesterday why my surg took almost five hours...I had Peterson Defect which had to be repaired! I'm doing and feeling great...9 days out. will get lab reports from yesterday later this a m.
  20. I CAN HONESTLY SAY, MY TWO WEEK PRE OP WENT VERY SMOOTHLY. I CHOSE TWO ITEMS FROM MY DR'S WIDE VARIETY OF CHOICES AND ATE ONLY THOSE...TWO TYPES OF SIMPLY COOKED meat AND LOW CARB Protein BARS. I DID NOT ALLOW MYSELF ONE BITE OF ANYTHING ELSE. THE ONLY DIVIATION I ALLOWED MYSELF WAS PRE PLANNED FOR ONE SERVING OF A CERTAIN food ON A CERTAIN DAY AT A CERTAIN PLACE. THAT PLAN WORKED FOR ME. I'M ON pureed FOOD NOW AND DOING FINE. I'ON DAY 8 OUT TODAY...DR VISIT TOMORROW. LOOKS LIKE DIABETES AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE ARE GONE OR CLOSE TO IT. WILL KNOW MORE TOMORROW. PLAN TO HEAD HOME BY SAT., MAYBE SOONER. BLESSINGS, KAREN IN THE WOODS OF ALASKA
  21. dear ones, yes, had my wonderful surg. on the fifteenth...three days in hosp., then home to motel. suppose to stay in anchorage until 26th...800 mile round trip from home. I am doing great and husband being super great to me. only new words of wisdom I didn't see in all my research are...buy lots of disposable bed pads!!! would have made life so much easier. GLAD I had the surg. a fun thing...I had unexpected paranoia...probably from the narcotics...I thought the hospital was running a drug ring and was going to be raided by police that day. whew!!! happy when that was over. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska getting ready to Celebrate my 73rd birthday on the 29th of this month
  22. HI ALL, MY SURGERY IS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!...TUESDAY APRIL 15, 2012...14 DAYS BEFORE MY 73RD BIRTHDAY. DR SAYS ALL IS FINE...JUST HAVE TO REG AT THE HOSP., GET MY OP TIME AND DO BOWEL PREP. HAPPY, HAPPY, JOY, JOY, AS TOM HORN WOULD SAY. BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU AND ME, TOO, KAREN IN THE WOODS OF ALASKA
  23. dear one, I want to reply as I am also severely limited...and much older than you...I will be 73 on april 29, 2014. and, drum roll please...I will have my gastric bypass april 15, 2014!!!!!!!! just about one and one half days left. we live out in the woods near Fairbanks, Alaska, and have driven 800 miles round trip to anchorage, Alaska, for my surgery. that means a rental car and two weeks in a motel, minimum. I am almost totally bedbound and rarely leave the house. my hope, and for sure prayer, is that this surgery will eliminate hi blood pressure, diabetes, and 110 pounds. I also have fibromyalgia, low thyroid, scoliosis, sciatica on both sides, arthritis, and just found out a portion of my spine has spontaneously fused and I have cysts all up and down my spine. I was also informed a year ago, after believing for 12 years that I had it, that I do not have ms. the neurologist, however, cannot figure out why I have scars on my brain, my brain has atrophied more than my age warrants, why I have excess spinal Fluid around my brain, and dark holes in the brain tissue. I have now done my own research and found all of the above brain issues, except for the scarring, are attributable to low Vitamin B12. I'm now taking that. Scarring may yet prove to be ms. I am also hoping the surgery and weight loss will give me back my ability to walk. either better with my walker or without it at all. excuse my nonuse of capital letters. I am on my side in bed, typing with one finger. when I am able, I am at my desk where I write in a more formal manner...four fingers and two thumbs. I am currently in the process of writing a children's book and also writing my autobiography. I am hoping to finish both books in the next three months or so. I will finish now as I must rest...not sure if I will sleep. my sweet husband will wake me at 8 a m for my final pre op Breakfast, then final trip to the doctor's office, bowel cleanse tomorrow afternoon/evening, then off to surgery on the 15th. be encouraged...we will both improve!!! blessings, Karen in the snowy woods of alaska
