  1. Thank you so much! That makes a lot of sense. I usually do eat according to my band patterns. I have a hot drink 1st thing in the morning and a Protein Shake for Breakfast. I am trying to eat following more of a paleo lifestyle, which frowns on anything processed, and that is why I tried the eggs. But lesson learned. I usually don't have a problem with straws, in fact, they help me drink more and get in my daily requirement. I appreciate the scientific explanation, it helps me to better understand my body's reaction.

  2. I have had a strange occurrence happen twice in the past week. The first time it happened, I was eating scrambled eggs with sautéed onions. I was having difficulty getting this food down because my band is always VERY tight for my first meal of the day. Then I started feeling pain on the roof of my mouth and when I touched it with my tongue, the roof was swollen and tender. This happened instantly. I thought I was having an allergic reactions because the onion was on its last leg so I stopped eating. Then the swelling went down and the pain went away. I never thought any else of it. WELL, I just drank some Water and I used a straw so some air went down too and it took some time for the air buddies to surface and the water to go down. The pain/swelling in the roof of my mouth just happened again! And it went away as soon as the water went down. I have had my band for over a year now and this has NEVER happened. I have an appointment next week but I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this or has any more information.

  3. Thanks- saw my Dr today. He took out 1cc and I could eat tonight with no slime.

I'm in the green zone now and my Dr is happy with where I am- I am also pleased.

I've been so good- I see this as a life change and not just a quick fix like some may think. I'm in such a better place than before my surgery.

Small bites' date=' lots of chewing and adjusting attitude.

Thanks again. I feel sooo much better.[/quote']

I am so glad that you got it fixed! I know it can be scary to take fill out but you have to be able to comfortable eat.

I have been slowly figuring out what foods work best for me. I am still starting with hot tea, then Protein shake, and each meal gets progressively more solid throughout the day. By my last meal I am not too limited in the type of food. It has been an adjustment but I am so much more comfortable now that I don't slime nearly everyday.

Good luck on your journey, and I agree, this is a journey not a quick fix.

  4. I have been 13 months post banding (6 fills) and I slime tons every meal and usually cannot eat without regurgitating- unless it is liquid like Soup. I may go for 2-3 days like that them all of the sudden I can eat fine for a meal or two.

I'm becoming frustrated with this issue. I have to almost always excuse myself at dinner to go and regurgitate multiple times. It's usually not the food' date=' rather its the "saliva or slime" as I have read on here.

    Any suggestions??[/quote']

It sounds like you are way too tight. I am assuming that you are taking small bites and chewing them until they are mush? After I made my original post, I took some time to really evaluate how I was eating. I still have the problem where I cannot eat solids in the morning but it sounds like that is a typical part of band-life. What I have learned is that I am tight in the morning so I have hot tea to loosen everything and then a Protein shake. After that I am usually okay but I have to be very careful with my second meal and eat slow. If I am not careful or if I eat something that is too dry too early in the day, I will have to regurgitate. That happens now 1 time a week, maybe 2-3 if I am not careful. Having to regurgitate is not supposed to be good for the band and it is not fun, even a couple times a week. I cannot imagine having to do it for every meal.

I thought that the slime was already built up but after taking time to evaluate what was going on, when I ate a bite that was too big or dry my body produced a large amount of slime to push it through and that slime then also got stuck. Our bodies can produce the slime very quickly. Your body is probably producing it on your first few bites. The moral of all of this is that I think you to discuss this with your doctor. And maybe have fill take out, which I know is a scary thought but if you can't anything, that is bad.

  5. What's PBing???

It is productive burping ... so using burps or burping-type movement to move food or in my case slime that is stuck back up your esophagus. It is not the same as throwing up. This is bringing up food that has not entered your stomach. Throwing up would be bringing food out of the stomach and back through the band, that can be dangerous. But like others have said, PBing too much will stretch things out.

  6. I have flown a lot, somewhere around 15 flights since being banded in Oct last year. You will have no problems with the band as far as security is concerned. I actually had to get an MRI a couple months after being banded and I called my surgeon to check to see if there was anything metal. They said with the band I have, there is a small amount of metal but it is not magnetic. I successfully had the MRI and the band was so ripped out of me, lol.

As for getting tight after flying, my surgeon warned me about this but I never feel any difference. Since it is possible to get tighter from the pressure, my surgeon refuses to do a fill too close to flying. You don't want to end up making it too tight and you are now far away.

  7. Here is my? I feel like I'm mostly in the green with the exception of the regurgitations I tend to throw up about every other day especially if I try to eat when I first get up. I feel really good about the ant I'm eating & my hunger control. Also my weight loss has been good thus far 40 lbs in 14 wks. I have been hoping that as I loose weight my band will loosen. I really don't want to drive 2 & a 1/2 hes for an unfill & then find myself hungry all of the time.

I feel I am finally in the green zone also. It took awhile, I had my surgery at the end of Oct and the green zone feeling came in early July. I also have problems eating in the morning and it seems this is common. In fact I just posted about "morning slime." The only time I get stuck is if I eat solids as my first meal. I usually have a Protein shake. If you want to eat solids, some people suggested starting with a hot drink a half hour before to wake up your band for day. You have done great with weight loss, but having to PB is not fun.

  8. I was told 30 min before and after and don't drink during meal. The reasoning I was given is that you want time before the meal because the liquid will still be in your pouch and cause the food you eat to swell and make eating difficult. For not drinking during or with in 30 min after, that is because it will cause the food to push through faster and you may eat too much.

That all said, like most, I don't follow that 100%. I wait 10-15 before and after meals. I typically don't drink during because for me, the liquid actually makes the food get stuck. I don't have to wait before but I definitely have to wait a few minutes after or else the liquid will come back up.

  9. What are you eating for breakfast that is getting stuck?

Anything solid. I can feel it get stuck and it only takes me a couple minutes at most until I have to PB. And when I do it is a significant amount of slime. So much that I don't see how it is possible that my stomach produced that much in a short amount of time. I have been dealing with slime in general for awhile now but the large amount every morning is new. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this. From some things I have read, it seems possible that the restriction from the band overnight causes the body to produce slime while sleeping and it is built up and cause the first meal to get stuck. I can live with Protein shakes for breakfast but it makes going out for breakfast difficult. I am going to try the hot drink since that seems to help people. I am sure taking some fill out would help, but I don't want to do it.

Also, has anyone else experienced their restriction changing from day to day? Some days I feel like I can eat anything and other days I struggle to keep solids down.

  10. I was having a lot of trouble getting to a point where I actually noticed any restriction with my band. It took a good 6 months of fills for me to feel I was restricted in what I was eating. All of that was frustrating in its self because weight loss was slow but I know this is a marathon, not a sprint. So I am happy as long as weight is coming off, even if it is slow.

Now that I can feel restriction, I am experiencing some problems. When I eat my first meal every morning, I am having a lot of difficulty getting food down. After a couple bites, I get the stuck feeling and I PB A LOT of slime with the couple of bites. This only happens with my first meal every day. It is easier to deal with when I am home, although not fun, but I eat Breakfast at work most days and I am restricted to Protein shakes. It has become very annoying. Has anyone experienced this? I read one suggestion of having a hot drink because the body might be producing the slime while sleeping and is acting as a plug when first eating.
