  2. If I have Protein powder too close to bedtime I will wake up with the night sweats. I'm 10 months post op, 39 years old, don't have a uterus but still have my ovaries. I attribute it the Protein Powder too close to bedtime. Had a really bad one last night too. Woke my hubby up tossing wet covers on him. Oops! I'm adding in this...I've been taking a antihistamine at bedtime, but I think that May be the other possibility here for me. Going to dump that entirely and see what happens.

    This ain't an easy fix!

    I was one of the lucky ones. Nearly everyone in my program have had one form of wls or another. Even the receptionist has. They told me what was up...I even walked out of my last dietician appt before my surgery in tears. She scared the crap out of me.

    Great week everyone!! We've had 4 people hit their goals with this weeks weigh in!! Congrats to everyone for efforts, progress, making strides in healthier yous!! The people that hit their goals have their numbers in red. Can certainly adjust your goal if you want at anytime. Lots of people about to hit goals as well!! Awesome progress!

    Labor day Challenge

    Hi everyone!! Few reminders...it's NEVER too late to join in. Just post your current weight and then your goal weight. When I like your post, it has been added to the spreadsheet. Please post in this thread as well...It is too difficult to look in a third place for PM weigh ins. A lot of the time, entering the numbers takes forever because the site it's hosted from is up and down. So it continually freezes up on me. Although today it was a breeze..knock on wood!! Also, I'm no excel wiz. I know the very basic functions. If anyone else wants to take the time to do what Bea used to with the border crossings, I say go for it! I have little kids, so my time is pretty monopolized right now. Once school is back in session, I should have some more time to do that. Also, we've had amazing progress you guys!! Saw some pretty big losses, same numbers as previous week, and small losses. Remember....any progress is better than no progress or going backwards. I'm 10 months post up on this upcoming Tuesday and let me tell you...the losses are hard fought now. I work pretty hard to get each pound off. But...it's also about balance too. Learning how to balance life, food, fluids, exercise, family, job, and other responsibilities is always tough for any of us...but the key is balance. As long as you are not going back to pre surgery bad habits..., all of your efforts, actions, mindfulness, and choices ARE progress!!! So many of us find ourselves striving for perfection....but we are human. And what we really need is just some balance. Ok...that's my weekly message. You can find me on Instagram at gomekast.     Is it truth or myth?

    Initally fresh from surgery yeah. You'll be lucky to get 3 bites down. But it changes. I'm 9 months out and I can eat around a cup of food. I have foods I can eat more of yes. .Those are the wet fruits. I pair those with dense meats. But...I don't go over my cup of food. Your hunger will change and your overall intake will always fluctuate. Stress, hormones, life all affect both.

    It totally is! Each day feels slightly strange for me too. But I'm getting used to it...it makes me feel empowered and strong now in some ways.

    Quest Protein Bars

    I also forgot to add in that you can subtract the sugar alcohols from the carb total. So a chocolate chip cookie dough Quest bars go from having 21 carbs to 3 net carbs. Much more doable for me too! I have also seen people say that eating 2 of them a day keeps them regular when they get backed up.

    I forgot the sugar alcohols...for myself personally, I dont subtract those from carbs...im sensative to too much of them. So I do count those...but that's just me. Also, some of you may hit the phase where you wont have any appetite. The thought of any and all food makes your mouth Water but not in a good way. I am on my 2nd round of it. Its lasted weeks for me. Some people have it last up to 3 months per my RD. She says the body is cycling abd changing every 3 months up to 2 years out. Anyways, for a couple days here and there all I can force down are quest bars. Because they are sliders. But they don't trigger me at this point and never really have. My only advice is simple. Never say never folks. Your body may reject food, and things like this may be a necessary form of nutrition for a day or two. Be open to trying different Protein powders n bars once you feel your body changing internally.

    Losing Appetite 3 months out

    You'll continue to go threw those phases all along your entire journey. My RD told me that the body cycles every 3 months, amd in some cases up until 2 or 3 years post surgery. I have hit the no appetite cycle a couple of times. I'm in one now. Im 9 months post op. I just focus on protien and fluids and veggies. Its kinda a drag yes, but when my hubby hands me a bag of chex mix and says...eat it. It made me realize...I still need to fuel my body the right way. Appetite or not. Today, I got up and had 2 scoops of Cappuccino Protein powder for breakfast. Then like you, forced down a greek yogurt with protein granola mixed in (its low cal n low carb and 10g protein) it. I needed the carbs for my workout fuel. I did my 45 minutes at gym running n biking. Came home and had literally 2 bites banana with PB crave on both bites...then a Quest bar. That will be it until dinner for me. Which will be some chicken breast cut up on half a cup of salad with walden farms dressing. Its not much, yes I know. However....my mindset now has afforded me the ability to change my thinking from eat everything i see too..eat to fuel my body. Its amazing to me. Just know that your not alone and it does happen.   14. I'm the same way at lynda above me. After getting my Protein in, I rarely have room for much but maybe 3 bites of a veggie or fruit. I was told to avoid the starchy stuff until I hit goal. My choices for veggies are usually salad, or avocado, fruit I stick with strawberries or cherries.

    Quest Protein Bars

    Looking at carbs is important but one thing most people don't realize is that on any and all food labels...any dietary Fiber that's listed under carbs is key here. Subtract the fiber from carbs total..and there you have active carbs total. Making it much lower than people think. Active carbs are what we should be worried about. Not total carbs. And this applies to all foods, not just quest bars.

    Hungry

    Cowgirl is right. Your hunger levels will and do change. Track it now....then you'll notice a pattern and be better prepared come those days each month so you can plan meals a little differently. I have 2-3 days each month where I feel like I could eat the whole fridge. It's the same days each month so I knows it's hormones. I just increase my portions and use that opportunity to have more fruits and veggies. Good luck.

    Labor day Challenge

    Great week you guys!! It's updated to here. Took me a little longer because low and behold my gallbladder has finally decided it wants out. Well, since I'm not septic I wait. It's been a rough few days to say the least. Today feeling better, so I just chug along, hoping I can eat more than protein bars. It reinforces this tho. The scale can be a great tool. But, it's not the whole picture. Your efforts, your choices each day, your exercise, and your mental game all make the whole picture. So while one any given day, we may feel defeated or run down, or just plain old stressed out....do this. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and hold for 5 seconds, let it go. Your next meal is another chance, the next day is an opportunity to get that cardio or weights in your itching for. I'm pretty close to my personal goal weight. I hit my surgeons goal already. Each pound I feel it looming closer. Why?? Because then it gets real. For the first time in my adult life, I will not be on a mission to lose weight. Then what?! Quite frankly I'm almost scared to death. But these challenges keep me honest. It keeps me accountable on the days I'd rather not be honest. But I have too. Not for anyone else, or for any other reason other than this...I deserve the truth. Even from myself. Keep pushing you guys!! Finish the week strong! Kelly;)

    And in other news....I'm still the same at 177. I did add back in my cardio. An hour of hard cardio...weights, elliptical, and bike or treadmill. No more mrs nice here. I'm taking control and going to get to my goal, with all the power I have!!!

    I have to give out a big huge thank you to Evolving!!! You have been the cheerleader since Bea stepped aside, and I ???? you for it. We all do!! I have 2 small kids and a pt job that keep me busy...and those times when you post, you keep us all going and point the group in forward progress mode!! And here is my little confession for the group. My in laws were in town for two weeks. Living with us in our tiny 2 bedroom apt, with my hubby and our kids. We live in a large apt community, where I work also. But having them in my space for that amount of time wasn't so terrible.....it's seeing their eating habits that left me often times repulsed. I never thought I would get to that point..but after seeing father inlaw cook eggs with half a cup of vegetable oil, I was shocked. Then, hubby and I were hit with a huge realization.....we could come and go as we pleased without having to plan out a babysitter!!!! It was like the gates of heaven opened up to me! so,. We went out every day. Had at least one meal out everyday. But you know what, I still made the good choices each time. I'm far enough along post op to know that yes, I could choose the fried and fatty stuff...but I didn't want too. I knew how I would feel afterwords. Mentally and physically. So I would start with a side salad first if the main selection wasn't too great..making sure I filled up first on veggies. Otherwise I'd just dive right into my meat selection straight away. I'm proud of myself. I didn't gain a thing. I didn't lose either. The stress of having 6 of us in a 1000 sq ft apt didn't allow me a loss. But...I did learn something far greater....it's that I do have the confidence and ability to make great healthy choices...not because I have too...but because I want to fuel my body better. That folks is an amazing power to feel over yourself. Stay strong you guys!! Make the change you want to see. Start today. No excuses!!

    This is a new one for me..

    Sorry to hear about the personal stuff going on. Never easy to deal with. That aside..I think the lack of appetite may be partially expected at this point in recovery. I say this because I also have hit this same thing...without all the stress that your dealing with. I saw my bariatric dr and RD and they both said that it was normal at the 8-10 month post op stage. They said that tastes have changed dramatically and things are beginning to go back to normal at that point. So it's just your bodies way of balancing out. I've had zero appetite for weeks now. It's been a challenge for sure. I went back to 2 shakes for Snacks and 3 small actual food chewing meals. My program wants us eating only 3 meals...any needed snacks need to be liquid...so I stick to that. But... My meals now are small for sure...maybe 4 ounces at the most. Greek yogurt with Protein low cal low carb granola mixed in for Breakfast....lunch maybe a few ounces of chicken breast with a few small pieces of fruit for lunch, dinner I'm not hungry at all...so then I usually will have some nuts with cheese. Or half an avocado with some protein. Hope some of this helps.
