  1. Congrats on your surgery date! I think thats best answered by your program nutritionist. Mine was specific with what they wanted...told me to keep my shakes under 200 calories idealy. They haven't said one word about grams of sugar. My program goes with the hunger trust model for post op. Theu just tell us to trust when our sleeves are hungry..eat til satisfied and be done. Oh, and protein always comes first. They also tell us to limit the meal in size. Have you met yet with your nutritionist or dietician?

    Hair hair and more hair

No Vitamin deficiency here and hair started dropping for me at the 3 month mark. I've been taking Biotin and all the other usual Vitamins we take. Still losing loads of hair. However, with my pregnancies and hysterectomy I lost zero when most lose it then too. Some people just lose it, some don't. I'm 6 months post op now and its calming down finally.

How did you choose your goal BMI?

I jsut asked this at my 6 month check up. The dr told me that anyone that has had wls should consider 27-29 a healthy bmi. She said that the people that have had 40+ bmi before have higher bone density than others..so they consider the 27-29 to be healthy for us. That said, I'm shooting for a number on the scale instead as my first goal. I'll see how I feel then and decide if I want to use the traditional normal bmi chart or the wls bmi chart.
  4. Aside from the stickers, this is exactly me. Its making me crazy too. But I'm also thinking about food every waking minute when im not logging it. Think I may try a week without tracking anything but Protein in my head and see how I feel then. Would still love to hear from some that don't track food.
  5. This is exactly it. All the tracking just makes me feel more obsessed with it.

    DRAGGING...

I had surgery the same month..I was October 22nd 2013. I've been having to work my buns off at this point, but also realized that I have more of a mental road block. Trying to work threw it..not easy to do.

    Bad day for me

Ive been on antibiotics for most of the last 3 weeks and let me just say...they kick up hunger and acid like no ones business. So I feel like I've been eating bad and way too much. I feel your struggle...and its a tough one. Tomorrow is a new day for sure and I'm going back to shakes for breakfast and lunch. It works for me. I save the chewing for one meal and feel in control.
  8. I had the same thing at your point. It took it slow and now im 6 months out and can eat anything. I would say to just move ahead slowly and stick to moister things to have. I couldn't even do chicken until about 1 month ago. Beef is a no go for me still, along with shrimp. If your fine on puree and the full liquids, then keep on that until you feel that your sleeve is ready. We all progress at different rates.

    Milk and Whey Protein

You haven't given us much to go on. But im suspecting your dealing with lots and lots of diarrhea. If your only consuming all liquids, its all going to come out the same way. Sorry your having a tough time.
  10. One other thing...you will slowly begin to feel more from your new tummy. They numb the nerves dowm there so as time goes by youll feel more from it. Pain when drinking eating etc means its full and stop. Later on, your full que will vary. Mine is a hiccup, others are a sneeze or runny nose. Hope some of this helps. It gets better, I promise!
  11. Day to day your new tummy will change as far as what it will tolerate. Example, today I was drinking Water no problem. Then come tonight, it wont go down now. So, back to my staple, propel zero. For thr first 3 months I felt like I had to choose..eat or drink. I couldnt do both. Its only been in the last 2 weeks that I've been able to do both, and I'm 6 months post op. Relax, and try something different that will go down easy.. propel zero, garotade 2, Powerade zero, Vitamin zero. Anything like that. Find a couple things you tolerate well and have ample supply at home of those. Just rest and relax for now. It gets easier a couple weeks out. I turned a corner around week 3 or 4.
  12. 6 months post op here and 'gloria' my tiny fickle tummy doesn't like shrimp. I dump from too much sugar free torani syrup. I try to steer away from the high fatty foods that I shouldn't be eating. Beef is a no go. Can't handle the sight of the stuff, and it's too hard to get down. Think that's it. I'm not terribly adventurous food wise. I'm a creature of habit.
  13. If I feel out of control, I will do a day of all shakes. It resets my head to get back in the game. It also allows me to feel the restriction again if I hadn't been feeling it much. Some here do follow the test, but mainly just to feel the restriction again and gain a little control if needed.

Percentage of protein, fat & carbs

Im 6 months next week and just worry about 1000 cals a day and my protein goal. I used to worry about carbs and fat but not anymore. For me, its about finding balance with the food I eat.

    Juicing!

I'm curious what everyone else's batches of juice are. I need to expand past my green state, if possible. Not willing to go starchy either. Ideas? and my produce looks just as sad Moon!

    failure :(

Oh gosh, im 6 months post op next week and I asked myself that very thing just tonight. Why did that roll threw my head? Because I allowed myself a small piece of cake and I put some chocolate frosting on it. To date I've lost 95 pounds, and have not made the effort to balance out my food better. I'm not so great at allowing the treats yet. But I'm also a balls to the wall sort of lady. I don't balance the on plan stuff with the occasional treats. But I am trying. For me, I think I will always have a tiny bit of that self doubt inside, but I've also been able to become friends with that part. Its my motovation to kick my own a $$ and keep seeing the pounds go down. Even if I do feel like I struggle the whole way down.

    Juicing!

Nearly all of my juice is all green items. Whole bag of spinach, whole head celery, few kale leaves, whole cucumber, then 2 green apples. I've taught people to start with a green base and add in one apple at a time and then taste the batch to see what else you want in it. The green stuff has less sugars than the other produce out there. Apples yes are sugary, but so are carrots. My husband makes his owm juice and uses carrots. I avoid it if it isnt green, to keep from crashing hard. Any orange colored produce makes my kids dump, so thats partly why I stick with the greens. One other thing...peel the oranges before juicing those...I had an early morning once and forgot too! Opps!

    Juicing!

Add in 2 or 3 apples after the veggies to cut the bitter taste. Also, I went to the book store and bought a book called the juice bible. Lots of recipes and tips.

    Juicing!

I did with mine. True juicing, where the pulp is ssperated from the juice was fine with my program. Juicing via just blending it all up was a no go. Talk to your program tho to be safe.

    Juicing!

I juice for my family, and just last week wanted to add some protein powder to it. Thanks for posting this...I will be trying it now.

    No drain = swollen abdomen?

2 words! Heating pad! I slept with mine on the belly soon as I got home and that took all the swelling down. Read it in the tips that are in the sticky topics they've got pinned.
  22. It gets easier. Once you get used to the no liquid rule you just dont think about it. Some things do leave an odd aftertaste or feel in my throat, but I've adjusted to it. I actually forget to start drinking again, when I'm able too.

    Throwing up

Listen to Madam, she is right. It shouldn't be happening at that far out. I had a double stricture post op that lasted my first 3.5 months, and I didn't even throw up that much. I had a different eating plan to accommodate my issue. Call your nurse and leave a msg. If you're missing your full que, learn yours fast. Runny nose, hiccup, etc are many reported by other members. That said...I couldn't eat meats until after my issue resolved itself. Now I am fine, but still listen for my single hiccup full alarm. Best of luck to you. Hope you feel better soon.

    Hospital Bag

It worked great for me..took it for a couple days once I got home along with my heating pad.
  25. Im my experience, the people that have been not completely positive about it are those that have seen others fail at the rny or vsg before me. They understand that yes the suegery itself is a tool and not a cure all. We still have to make the healthy choices, do the exercise, and make those commitments for the rest of our lives. I think a small percentage go into this with rose colored glasses..then act shocked at 6months or a year out when their hunger is just the same as before. Head hunger doesnt change. Only the tummy does. But, most of us just need that help with the tummy. That itself gives us enough control to finally grasp health and lose the weight. I think the head hunger gives wls a bad reputation. Think about this, at Mayo clinic, in order to have wls there, you must FIRST complete 1 full year of intense psychological therapy. Then and only then will they operate on you.
