Kellys got a reaction from Debbie3sons in Acid reflux, vomitting, coughing all night
I just went in and had another de fill and I have a follow up appointment on Monday. If nothing is better then they will move up my appointment. Right now I feel much better - I have been able to drink Water easily and eat small amounts of food. The nurse does feel it is a slip and has said they will probably do surgery to adjust it. I really hope I can get back to where I was before all of this - 2 months ago I was loosing weight, eating well and had no complications. The band was working perfectly.

Most all of us fall off the wagon with a binge or two so just get back on. Now vomiting is another story? If it's true hurling as we do when we get the stomach flu, that's bad. You can cause the band to tear away from the sutures holding it to the stomach causing a slip. Be careful and you behave yourself k?

My band was great for the first year, I was careful and followed the rules (most of the time) Now I am running into trouble after a weekend of binge eating and vomiting. I am more than willing to fess up to my behaviour - I know that unhealthy eating, emotional eating etc., is what led me to the lap band. I am struggling to get back on track and hope that I have not done serious damage.

Eating too much on a too tight band and purging and forcibly vomiting is the NUMBER ONE PROBLEM for pouch dilation and slippage.
When reflux starts that usually mean the END OF YOUR BAND, and you now have a damaged lap band, I hate to say it.
Can you manage it? Yes, you can live with a damage band for years, but it will be very difficult for you to get back to your sweet spot and green zone WITHOUT ISSUES AND REFLUX.
The good news is, if you have the AP band, you can get it surgically fixed without removing the entire band, the surgeon can unbuckle the band and fix the pouch.
Can you avoid surgery? Yes, in most cases, but getting to the green zone without issues may be a problem, you may have to keep your band on the loose side from this point on, until you can get it repaired, fixed or removed.
The interim fix, is to get your Upper GI, and the usual treatment for this is to remove all the saline from the band for about 6 weeks, hoping the pouch will relax, and slowly refill the band every 4-6 weeks until you hopefully get near or back into the green zone.
If you are lucky and don't have a huge pouch or slippage, you many want to avoid ANY vomiting and purging with your band.
    Good luck

I was trying to cope with a similar scenario earlier this summer. I had issues with night time vomiting and coughing even after my band was unfilled entirely.
What I found has worked for me is to limit my intake of both any food or Water in the evenings. I wait a minimum of 2 hours after eating anything, and a minimum of 1 hour after taking my bed time medications before it attempt to lie down to sleep.
If I follow those rules, I have no problems at all, which is what I have done since late June. If I don't follow the rules, more night time coughing and vomiting.
My band is still unfilled. My surgeon in Florida who placed my band was convinced that it had slipped. Repeat of the fluoroscopy showed a perfectly placed band, and he even said he was surprised that there was no slip based on the severity of my presenting symptoms. He said he cannot explain why I have the symptoms I have, but I will be allowed to keep my band as long as I can keep the night time symptoms controlled.
I hope you get some relief from your symptoms, and that your band is ok...
