    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

i agree with 5.Ojunkie - fiber, fiber, fiber....and roughage (lettuce, veggies, etc). That seems to be one area I'm not having issue with...lol I understand cheese can cause it also...so look at how much of that you are eating a day.

Share ideas, What did you eat today ?

I'm really not sure sometimes if I am hungry, I was just focusing on getting enough protein and Water as recommended. My team told me not to concern myself with the calories too much just to watch portion size and hunger. I think I have been too over focused on the protein (getting 80-100 gm a day) though and not on the hunger... I am going to recommit today to trying to listed to my body when it comes to hunger!! thanks for the advice!

do you think the exercise after you eat helps you not want more food? I'm not a morning person and I have to be at work by 8am so I exercise around 2pm after I eat lunch. I notice that after that walk, I'm not hungry for a longer period of time.

    Any other September 2013 bandsters?

I am exercising more and my boyfriend says I am losing size so yes, that could be holding up the scale some... The other issue is with measuring, I don't take the time to measure but I buy a lot of pre-packaged stuff like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and single serve fruit like a banana or apple. The problem comes when I don't do this, we do eat out a lot because I'm not a great cook. I do choose healthy and eat slow though just don't get to measure. I know that my palm is the size of meat I should eat, and my fist is about 1 cup of veggies, ect. but I can eat about 2 cups of food. Hoping my 2nd fill next week will help with that part... Thank you for the ideas

You are right! and I guess I need to hear that so thank you for the honesty! I will try to re-focus my efforts when it comes to bad carbs. I do like the special k protein bars you can get in the weight loss area of the stores... Chocolate helped get me into this mess...it's not going to get me out of it!!! lol

I cant do the gym - i just wont go. I last about 3 months then find myself paying the monthly fee for no reason. I walk the parking lot at work each day at lunch time. I am up to 2 miles in 34 mins. It's mostly covered so that helps...Then on saturday we go hiking on short hikes (at least 2 miles). Sunday is my day of rest...

If I try shocking myself by going lower, how do I overcome the want for food? I'm not staying satisfied... I am trying to drink more water but I get to craving chocolate. I think it might be in my head but I don't know how to conquer it... Tomorrow I will try going lower to 600, do I only do this for 1 day or a few days?

ok guys, I need help! I am holding steady at the same weight. I was banded 7 weeks ago. I am mostly eating the right things and now walking 2 miles a day 4-5 days a week and going hiking on saturdays for at least 2 miles, sometimes more. I write down everything I eat and I'm going back over the last couple weeks. It seems I get on average of about 1000-1200 cal a day give or take (if I stay away from peanut m&ms!). I eat about 200 cal every couple of hours for about 5 mini-to-avg meals a day. My main focus is to get enough Protein because my biggest fear is my hair falling out. I do take a couple of meds that are on my doctor's list to cause weight gain so wondering if this is an issue also... Yesterday - this is mostly an average day (except when i cave on the chocolate) Breakfast: 4oz light cottage cheese, special k Protein Bar (260 cal) snack: apple (72 cal) lunch: progresso light soup, sugar free pudding (180 cal) snack: greek yogurt, banana (265 cal) dinner: jack in the box grilled chicken strips (4 strips) (250 cal) TOTAL: 1112 calories for the day (also walked for 35 minutes - almost 2 miles) I've had 1 fill but now have little restriction and just keep my meals small. Am I eating too much? What is the average calories per day you guys are eating? give me some ideas of meals you eat? PLEASE HELP! I still think about eating too much. I am scheduled for a 2nd fill next week.

I'm with you...my weight is staying steady! I only lost 1 lb last week! and nothing the week before that. My boyfriend won't let me weigh everyday because I was obsessing over the scale. so now I only weight on Fridays but it's still a big let down when you follow all the rules and when friday comes...nothing! My 2nd fill is next week on Thursday (currently have 3 ccs)...I hope it helps. I still think I'm eating too much in calories to get enough Protein so I'm going to discuss with my dietician tonight after our support group meeting... MyFitnessPal tracks you food and exercise...then you can print out the pages for each day. I can use these to go over. Just a suggesttion.

    Gastric or LapBand?

My apologies, I am a full supporter of the lap band. I did not understand that there is 2 types of plication. Did you get the type where they staple the stomach on itself to simulate a sleeve???

    Gastric or LapBand?

oh I see, that sounds like it would be. I hadn't heard of that! I misunderstood you...my apologies

    Gastric or LapBand?

What is effective? The lap band or the plication? or both? And how do you know?
  19. NewMeDebbie

    Gastric or LapBand?

here is an analysis of the plication. It's a little dated but shows it to not be very effective... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21938578

I understand it is common right after surgery from the anesthesia or later if you don't eat enough protein. You should talk to your doctor about it if it is a concern.

Protein style means serving in wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. No bread means it's much healthier and i worry less about obstruction. I just found out that Carl's Jr does it. They have a sign up now that you can ask for any of their sandwiches protein style. Also, In-n-out burger does. The only reason I know this is because my daughter worked there during high school. I'm really not into fast food. Well, not until I met my boyfriend...lol

    Gastric or LapBand?

I am only 5 weeks out from my lap band. I did a lot of research but my sister who has a master's degree in nursing and nursing education and the bypass 7 years ago. She is the one who recommended the lap band for me. The bypass is much more invasive and you do have to deal with mal-absorption of nutrients and loss of hair (she lost alot of hair) but she did reach her goal weight and has kept it off. I did not want something that invasive. Although the lap band does seem to make you lose it slower, it is healthier and safer in the long term. At least from what I read and researched. Also, I must add that I have the Realize band - not the original Allergan LapBand. Another contributing factor is cost. My insurance did not cover bariatric surgery so lap band is much cheaper because it is less invasive. Out-patient surgery. I was home within hours of my surgery and back to work within days. You ultimately have to make your own decision on what you think is best for you though...Good luck with your journey

You're welcome! We are all in this together!! Yes whole wheat is ALWAYS better than white anything! You sound like you are doing well so far. Once you get the fill, you will notice you can't eat as much and bread of any kind is very hard to eat...at least it is for me. I'm finding I eat more eggs and cottage cheese now and I make or order any sandwich protein style. Carl's Jr will let you order any of their sandwiches this way...The grilled chicken or fish protein style is pretty good and just the sandwich alone is a full meal!
