  1. Ok I would like to put a question out there, Are your eating and exercising habits the only changes you made to your life when you had surgery or did you make other changes ie: I redirected my life spiritually, I took a long look at what I was investing into my marriage and spouse, and I have made physical changes to our house. I also stand up for myself more now than ever before.

Just curious to see what changes others have done.

  2. LOL not cruising, banish the thought! No I love to cruise, just being able to get away places I have never seen, history, just love it.

Parisshel I think you hit my fear on the head, I am afraid that if I get some taken out I will push it just a touch to far and lose the ground. Because over time when I was having issues with the port site getting infected I gained weight back. Luckily I have lost nearly all I gained but still scares me. And I would have a month with less restriction not just the week we are gone.

I really don't want to have any taken out but past history is scary. But I think it was circumstance not the cause. How the tubing kinked on first cruise hard to say why it ever did, may have been that way and just happened to give out at that point.

  3. We have been married for 23 years this next June and I have found that hubby gets into fits with me when he is stressed because he knows I am his safe release. He moves past it by the next day, hurts me yes and very aggravating, but I know he loves us. And I know I blow up too. I always try to keep perspective when he goes off.

  4. Ok bear with me here for just a minute so I can give you an idea of my past experience and where I am coming from with my question

Question- Should I think of getting a small unfill (like 1/2 a cc) prior to going on our Alaskan cruise?

    Past experience

Went on first cruise just hubby and I post lapband and very near to goal. Did have restriction when I first got on ship but sometime over the course of the cruise I got a kink in the tubing and lost all my Fluid and hence the restriction too.

Second cruise I was post surgery (to fix an infected port site) and had no port so I was not in the green zone but still had issues during the cruise of items getting stuck and some days getting more than 2 or 3 bites down was just impossible.

    Ok fast forward

Going to be going on another Alaskan cruise this time with whole family (4 of us) I have great restriction now and am close to being at goal again; within 25 pounds give or take. I know that I will get tighter on the cruise from sodium content of food on board and change of routine. stress, etc take your pick. Also activity level will be greater than normal with excursions, walking, exploring, dancing, drinking on board, etc.

So do I go at this somewhat proactively and get a small unfill so that I do not risk becoming so tight on board I get really sick or just let it go. I know that Dr. on board most likely will have no experience with lapbands and odds of him having anything to do an unfill is slim to none. Besides unless it was dire I would not want another Dr. to adjust the band anyway.

    What are your thoughts?

  5. Hi Mona! Miss seeing you!

I was just thinking about posting for a mentor to help keep me accountable for being sure I am getting in workouts each week. I have made some major life changes and just started working out again. I have set up a spare room at home to be my gym so that I can have a dedicated spot to get at it.

Anyway if you can stop by and check in on me every few days if you have time, I would greatly appreciate it!

  6. Ok so I have had success with the Lapband without doing any specific exercise. I moved alot after work (we live on the farm so I have lots to do) but I have decided to add something more in the evenings before I retire for the night. So last night I pulled some Zumba videos off youtube got 15 minutes of that finished ( this is the part that my mind said you are coordinated enough to do this, but my body had serious reservations, lol) then I got out my gazelle and rode it for 21 minutes. I had broke out in a sweat by the time I was finished so I kept up a good pace.

So I guess I wonder if anyone else is using a gazelle and how do you like it?

Will a combo of the two work enough muscles to tone the body and burn calories?

  7. Well I am so excited to report that I am now 3# away from being half way back to my goal weight that I maintained for several years before my band kinked and I had to have my port removed!! Finding that sweet spot again has been the key to me getting back to 155# . I have to say that I really had forgot how much the band helped me to reach my goal and how it kept me from being hungry.

  8. So excited that I broke out of the 200's !!! Ok for the second time but for me that is meaning I am really on my way back to my lowest weight since I originally had the surgery. I also notice that I am feeling better again, about myself, I feel more like getting into projects and getting my hands dirty. I never thought I would have to travel this road twice but I am so thankful that I stuck this out, went through 4 total surgeries to be back in the place where I can have success with the tool that helps me have my weighloss. Honestly I think at some point when I had become so accustom to being 155# and feeling great I forgot that the band was the edge I needed. Gaining back 70# scared me to death, I was scared to go to the doctor. Scared and ashamed that I had failed and that I would have to have my band removed because something was making it not work any longer. Long story short, I did have to have multiple surgeries, ended up having to remove just the port and getting it replaced a month later, but I am seeing the person I know I can be once again!!t

  9. :D Rechecked it is a convection oven (little round countertop one). From what I read it is suppose to be healthier because you do not have to use oil and what fat is there drips off the food? ? I used it last night for baked potatoes and thick cut porkchops. I did the potatoes in foil just as if doing in oven, cooked them for 30 minutes then put the chops on the top rack for another 30 minutes. All I did was salt, pepper, etc the chops and put a quick spray of pam on the rack so they did not stick. I want to do a chicken in it this week one day.

  10. I had a kink in the tubing that resulted in my tubing cracking, long story short, I ended up having surgery to cut tubing then rejoin it to the port. Quick and simple, but did have complications with surgical sight infection so port came out and healed then back to put in new port.
