  1. Hi there, banded on the 15th! I have 2 incisions, used a back massager for the gas pain, had a good post op visit, and have been moved from liquids to mushies. I've been feeling better each day. I am trying to figure out exactly how much mush food to eat. I ate too much yogurt and had an awful over-full feeling for a few hours. My incisions are healing nicely, but they are sore today.

I have always been told eat until your comfortable not full...bc it takes ur brain awhile to catch up that oh hey she is done and satisfied...so u eat to ur full you will miserable

  2. I feel like a failure and I don't know what my deal is...last July I was so pumped to lose my weight and now I'm kind of stuck...my starting weight was 389 before I went on the week before surgery diet and I got down to 374 day of surgery my weight now is 366....so 22 pounds within a year. I do belong to a gym I'm just not going like I should...for some reason I'm just staying tired and have no energy to go. I work with the school system and I work with special need kids and some days it's exhausting...everyone else has seem to do great...I just don't know what has gotten into me and I thought by now I would've at least lost 80...and one of my problems I think is I'm still eating what foods I like I have just cut back...I'm such a picky eater when it comes to vegetables I have tried and tried yogurt til I'm blue in the face and I think it's a texture for me. I have recently started eating strawberries which is awesome bc I never would eat them....I cut them up and put Splenda on them and it gives me that craving fix when I want something sweet...I just need a lot of support and once a month support group meetings are not helping I need like an every week thing

  3. That should say I didn't LOSE sh*t for the first 7+ months....

The doctor I see when you go for your very first appointment you pay $300 dollars up front for the behavioral therapist and the dietician so he wants me to see her and keep a food diary and so I started to and have stopped. But I was mad at myself when I was in his office may 20th and seen how much I gained back. And was determined to get back on track.

I have a friend who is like your sister and her surgery will be two years and she has gone from a size 28 to a 14...and she doesn't eat much...

  4. I had my surgery 7/30/13 and my weight is up and down. Last time I went to the doctor he wasn't happy bc of the weight I gained. However I was off work for three months due to hand surgery and us "bigger" folks when they are bored what do they turn to???? FOOD!!!! So I am trying to get back on track...I think the one thing that hurts me is I'm such a picky eater. And also I guess I thought the band would be this miracle cute but it takes a lot of work and maintenance to keep up with. I thought I would've been further then what I am but I try to stay positive at least what I have lost is a loss and on the plus side I didn't gain all the weight back that I was on surgery or before surgery so ill take it :)

  5. Hello. I had my surgery July 30 2013. We all have mixed emotions with this surgery. It's ok to feel nervous your gonna fail we all experience that according to my doctor.

I'll be honest with you I have fallen off of the band wagon and I seen my doctor this past Tuesday and I feel like I'm getting back on track I have already lost 5 lbs. I was in tears in his office and he reassured me that I'm not the only one it's happened too. It does happen but if you have a good support group you will get back on track. My doctor is really on my team and trying to help me. I've had to have fills and unfilled. So I haven't made much progress for it almost being a year since surgery but everyone is different. Like my doctor said the weight didn't get there over night it won't go away over night. I too did that band that way when the time comes to have kids they will be able to take Fluid out.

This is a good support group to have if you all have any questions feel free to ask! Good luck in your journey remember it's just a tool it's there to help it's not gonna lose it for ya

  6. If you've lost 3 pant sizes that is weight. The scales will eventually catch up. I can eat almost anything just have to chew and eat slow. Try to increase your Proteins if you're getting hungry before lunch. This is what my surgeon told me. And most of all relax. It will happen if you keep it up. We all stall. I stall at least every other month then it takes off again. And, you probably are gaining muscle which accounts for smaller size without pound lost.

    Thanks sandy

  7. Hello all! I had my surgery July 30,2013. I am just down 33 pounds and it's kind of depressing. I worry my band has slipped or something. I try and eat a light Breakfast and if I get hungry between breakfast and lunch I'll eat some fruit or a Protein Bar. Then lunch when I go for my break at work and then dinner and here lately I haven't been snacking at night. I just feel like a failure bc my weight isn't coming off like I thought it would. I can get almost anything down even bread. Had my fill nov 11 don't go back until January 2nd. I have dropped three pant sizes and idk if I'm just losing inches and gaining muscle from working out....I just wish I would have more weight off by now. At first the weightloss was going pretty quick and it seems like right now I have hit a plateau and have no clue what to do...has anybody else experienced this kind of problem because I'm beginning to get scared that something is wrong with my band.

  8. Hello my band buddies... I have been AWOL for a month or so now, so I'm sorry for not being there to support and encourage you all. I have been stuck in my own "poor me" downward spiral and have not been in a great headspace. I have stayed away from the site because as strange as this sounds, I have tried to pretend that I don't have a lapband. Silly huh? But I have really been struggling with the restrictions - the small bites and the chew lots. It has taken my satisfaction away from eating, and as I medicate myself with food, have found myself in a place where when I feel sad, mad, tired, or stressed, I struggle to make myself feel better. I have been eating the wrong foods but my band is keeping me at small portions, so I have not gained weight. But I haven't lost any either. I haven't had any more fills but am planning to schedule one for next week. I really need some words of encouragement to get me back on track xx

I have missed you! I been wondering what happened to you. Don't let the small bites stress you it's just to help you. Once U get use to it it will just be natural for you. We all have our ups and downs. You have a great support system here

  9. Aaaww' date=' thank's alot and im happy for you. ;)[/quote']

Welcome to the club! I was banded July 30th and I've lost 26 pounds. You just need to have it set in your mind you can do this. Make sure that you follow the doctors steps. I'm sure we all cheat alittle but this is a life changing experience and it's a roller coaster ride especially when you first have surgery. But that's what this forum is for we all have been through it and we will gladly answer questions and give the best ideas. We are all here for one another and no one judges anyone. I agree with other people do research on doctors read reviews from other patient experience. And a girl I work with had lap band and she suggested a doctor for me and I just love him and his staff so if u know someone who has had the lap band maybe you can ask them. And for me the first thing I had to do was go to a seminar. This is a long process and I would suggest calling your health insurance to see if they cover lap band before u go through all this. Because some insurance companies make u do a six month supervised diet doctor visit. Before they will cover it. So first step call your insurance second step find a doctor and go to a seminar . At the seminar they will u give you the nice packet to fill out and if u got to do the six month supervised diet then those papers should be in there for ur doctor to fill out. I started my process last September and that was calling the insurance and then doing research on doctors and then in November I went to the seminar. So it does take time but we all been there you can do it ???ƒ

  10. Hi Jama11' date=' I'm in the same boat. I haven't lost a pound since like Day 12 postop. It really has been discouraging. I didn't have surgery just to lose 21lbs so what's the issue here? I'm trying to stay positive but its hard when I step on the scale every day and see the same numbers. Ugh!!,[/quote']

Hey girls just thought I'd let u know don't get discouraged. Because you're going to lose Water weight first. I had my surgery July 30th and I eventually kept seeing the same number. Just keep your head up because once u get your first fill you will start losing again. I gained six pounds but my doctor was ok with it bc he said ur gonna lose it now. My first fill was yesterday

  11. How does your plan for you going?

Mentally handicapped children is also a pretty demanding job. I use to work or should I say volunteer at a nonprofit org that only cater to mentally handicapped adults. I would read to them and try to teach them new words. I didn't do it for long. They ran short of money and had to let my dh go. He was their computer all around man. Soon after we moved about an hour away. It was rewarding in so many ways. Now we take one woman age 30 when we have our gdaughter age 13 and take them on day trips with us. They're a joy to have around. They get along marvelously. Terri (handicapped) acts 10 but she's the mothering type. Julie gdaughter reads to her when they aren't out playing. Terri is in love with life especially when she gets to come with us.

I am able to get a snack when I need too. We have a college dorm fridge in our room. But I don't snack to much if I get hungry I start drinking my Water. We have the teacher I'm an assistant and we have another assistant. And we switch our lunch times every week like this week I will take the early lunch at 12:15-12:45 then on the late lunch I go from 1:05-1:35.

The only problem I have noticed is my sugar drops sometimes and I don't usually have chocolate or caffeine on me so idk what to do about that

  12. I go to the doctor Tuesday for my first fill. And right now I'm discouraged bc I feel like I have been eating like my old ways before the surgery. It's just I'm more hungry right now and there isn't much in my band but I have aimed some weight I just hope he will fill it bc I think that's why I'm hungry like I am. And I pray once I get this fill it will slow me back down on eating and I can lose weight

  13. I am a nurse practitioner and have a full practice. I will hit the ground running tomorrow. I go weeks to months without a day off. Hoping my stress level does not get out of control and I can continue to get healthy. There will b a lot of questions from patients and staff. I know people mean well but don't want to have to explain myself. I haven't tried watermelon but it does sound good. I can see why you wanted some. Are you nauseated still after throwing up? Or was it a one time deal and done?

Hey I'm not in the health field but I do work with children who are functionally mentally disable and I've been back to work since August 20th anyway just to share what I did is I have a 24 oz Water bottle I fill it with Water and freeze it..gets me through the whole day. If you get hungry between ur meals eat a snack so maybe have some fruit on hand yogurt Protein bar something that will help until you get your lunch :)

  14. I'm with you two on that. I will never eat popcorn again. It got stuck and I had to call and wake my doctor up at like 140am and when he called me back u could tell he had been on a deep sleep. And he called me the next morning and I thought u was fine got up to take my medicine and it was like it just sat there so back to calling him again and he admitted me to the hospital....popcorn was my favorite and now ill never be able to eat it again :-(

But I learner my lesson. Because once that happened I was on liquids then soft then regular food.

I feel like km on a roller coaster ride

  15. Just wanted to ck in. Hooe everyone had a good holiday. I feel bet r er today. Gas pains still hurting but doesn't hurt going over bumps while driving. I really should listen to the pros. However it is tiresome with the gas pain. I'm drinking fine. Keeping up with the Protein drink Water broth tea skim milk and a couple tbs of lf yogurt.

Anyone else have different full liquid examples? Would love to have different trys. I just pray this gas pain doesnt last too long. Thanks for your support....be safe....stay strong

Donna I remember when I had my surgery how bad the gas pains were. My mom was going to kroger at quarter to 1 in the morning bc the gas pains were unbearable. A girl that had lap band surgery that belongs to the group I belong to on Facebook told me to get some gas x the kind that dissolves on your tongue ht we couldn't find them and got the chewables. If you could get some of them you would feel a lot better. And I'm thankful I have them bc to this day I use them when I feel the gas building up in my chest ot belly area. I even carry a sleeve of them in my purse. So that may be an idea for you?

On my liquid diet I did Protein shakes sugar free kool-aid popsicles were my best friend sugar free of course. How much longer do you have on your liquid diet? Mine was a week then soft foods for a week then back to normal food.

  16. Hi' date=' I'm Laura and starting pre op for two weeks tnis morning. Surgery on the 9th. While I do need to loose weight I am mostly doing this to improve my diabetic control. Bmi is 36- hope to loose 10 before surgery which means I will be down to my pre stroke weight. How bloated were you after surgery from gas? I heard it is so bad clothes don't fit. Any takers on this? Exited to get going and enjoy the friendships and support on this site.[/quote']

I mean you will be swollen but it wasn't to the point where it's so bad you can't wear clothes.

Yes probably for awhile you want to wear your comfy clothes because of the incisions. You'll do great welcome to the club we all have been there so that's why we're here for one another. I will suggest getting the gas-x chewable because it will be your friend for the gas pain. Or they have the kind that dissolves on your tongue.

  17. I will be four weeks out as of Tuesday. Haven't started exercising yet bc I want to go to the gym and right at the moment I am without a car and I have to rely on other people. However I do have the biggest loser game for the wii so until then that will be my workout and trust me I tried that workout a long time ago before lap band even crossed my mind and it about killed me lol.

I'm just curious does anyone else have the problem of people who know you have had lap band do you feel like they are constantly watching you while you eat and when you're done and judge you for how much u ate. and like right now I am eating more but it's bc I need my first fill tonight I did have pizza it was thin crust and I ate four pieces and my mom was like how much have you ate? I mean obviously I'm doing something right bc I keep losing weight. Just was wanting to know if anyone else had this problem.

And for lunch at work I have my bread that is low calorie and I have turkey bologna with mustard a string cheese sugar free pudding and apple sauce so I don't think that's to bad

  18. I think we all second guess ourself more than once. Because I'll be four weeks out as of Tuesday and I just have times where I'm like I wish I wouldn't of done this and last week after being put in the hospital I was mad at myself and my doctor asked why I was crying I just told him its hard and he said it will get better. I still don't get a fill until September 10

  19. It's not just you. It took me 2 weeks to feel better. The first week I really questioned if I did the right thing. Are you still on liquids? Did they give you any nausea medication?

I agree it took me some time to feel well. Like my first week after surgery I had a follow up appointment then afterwards went to the store and I just got worn out so easy. Then bout two days later my aunt took me out to walk at a store just to build my strength up. And the more I walked the better I felt. My doctor gave me phenagran for my nausea
