    Affordable Care Act

Just food for thought here: http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/06/heres-a-map-of-the-countries-that-provide-universal-health-care-americas-still-not-on-it/259153/ Nearly EVERY developed country has some form of public health care already in place. I'm just sayin'
  2. Ok, so anyone else have urine that smelled like rotten eggs right after surgery? I thought it might just be from the anesthesia, but figured it would toss it out there and see if anyone else had experienced this.
  3. Sweetie 13, I'm sorry you had a bad experience on here. I personally have had all good, positive feedback. The great people here are what makes this site so valuable....

    Day After Surgery

Try some gas-X, might help a bit. It will only help with the gas that you have absorbed back up already.

    Return to work HAHA

I had surgery yesterday (10/29) and have every intention of returning to work Monday (11/4) and if I can only work part day, so be it. I'm not going to push myself too hard. I have 4 weeks of comp time built up so if I need some extra time off, it's available; however, if I don't use it by year's end, I can cash it in.

    Home from surgery!

Mel, I love your comment about 1,000 crunches... I feel exactly the same as you do lol. Gas pain hasn't been horrible, started using Gas-X and a heating pad on my back as soon as I got home yesterday and I think that has helped. Took a few hours before I could take a deep breath and I think that was because of the gas. This morning, it sounds like the civil war is going on in my stomach
  7. 1 day postop, sore sore sore, also happy happy happy that my new life on the light side (Star Wars pun) has begun!!

    Affordable Care Act

Well let me say this.... Beginning 1/1/14, I will have better coverage, at half the premium (with NO SUBSIDY) and similar deductibles as I have now. The coverage on my daughter will be even better because hers includes dental and eye care. I completely agree that this will be a wait and see, but what it looks like now, for me at least, this will be a huge benefit. I'm sure it's different in different area's and how many carriers are offering coverage, obviously, the more carriers, the more competitive the pricing will be.

    Surgery is TOMORROW!

Melanndoll - I like outside of Topeka and was back home around 1:00ish No halloween band here either, I even asked for one lol I'm pretty sore at the port site and on my left side, think it's just gas pains on my side. Goodl luck!

melanndoll and I are both banded tomorrow... in the same city even goodluck melan, maybe they'll give us special halloween themed bands lol
  11. 2 more days until I get banded!! 10/29 is the first day of my new life. Excited, nervous, but know I have all of you to support me :-)

  12. I was just about to say this exact thing, this happens to me when I'm on pain meds... except I have a really hard time peeing as well.
  13. I would gladly accept pics and give you my 'professional' opinion Sorry! Couldn't help myself lol
  14. Thank you for asking this ccjil, I was in fact, about to post this exact question. I will have limited help at home after surgery and wanted to make sure I have everything in order before I go in, Oct 29th is my magic day. Thanks everyone for your reply's!! I would love to hear from others as well, just like ccjil, I'm a planner :-) One thing I wondered about is, sitting after surgery. I have a big comfy recliner that I sit in, and am planning on sleeping in the first couple of nights. I'm a side sleeper and many have said this will be uncomfortable for the first couple days due to the port. So, to keep my sleep apnea at bay while sleeping on my back, the recliner will work quite nicely. BUT.... is that going to be an issue getting up and out of, with the stitches (staples in my case)?
  15. Liquid pre-op is killer! I totally cheated Friday but have done good since. Only 9 more days :-)

    Metabolic Rates and calorie burning

Lisa, I read your post, and the above quote clearly states "breathing and relaxing burns off more calories then you burn killing yourself in the gym for hours on end." THIS IS NOT TRUE. So maybe you meant different, but that is not the way it reads.

    Metabolic Rates and calorie burning

Lisacarson, not everyone is the same, and caloric intake will vary greatly from person to person. I, personally, can tell you at 2k per day I will easily lose the 1-2lbs per week. Also, walking/running for 30 minutes will burn an EXTRA 200-300 calories (as you say) over what your body will already use for 'life support'. I have triple checked the following numbers off various websites: Walking for 1 Hour - Burn 250 calories Everyday life for 1 Hour - Burn 85 calories. PLEASE, PLEASE check your information before you post information that is completely inaccurate. Yes, you burn most of your calories throughout the day resting, but that is because you spend 95% of the day resting (assuming 1 hour of exercise). If we lost weight simply by sitting on our arses, then none of us would be here in the first place
  18. So, there I am, scheduled for Mr. Band on Nov 14th, thinking I had a couple weeks before pre-op diet to have a couple nice steaks. Yesterday morning I get a call.... SURPRISE, we've rescheduled your surgery for Oct 29th, you need to start your pre-op diet tomorrow (which is today now). Holy horsesnot Batman, I'm totally unprepared. Well, am I as unprepared as I thought.... I quit drinking pop Aug 17th, unsweetened tea since then, tapering off the caffeine each day by watering down the tea more and more. Started trying different Protein shakes in early September to find one I liked, been having them for Breakfast and lunch for about a month now. Found out that Syntha-6 Isolate, chocolate Milkshake, is the f'ing bomb and is my shake of choice. So... today, had 3 Protein Shakes thus far, and am allowed 4 per day, and zero caffeine - Water only. That only totals 660 calories, can this be right? Holy hippo turds Batman, that's not very many calories Maybe I'm not as unprepared as I thought, but I need your help.... I'm allowed beef/chicken broth, sugar free candy/gum and sugar free popsicles. Can you tell me some good brands of these items? Thanks to all who participate in this site and make it such a valuable tool!!!!

    Band Vs Sleeve?

Ok, I realize this is an old topic, but..... If this guy is 'one of the most respected bariatric surgeons' then we should all be afraid, be very afraid. His website says he is 1 mile from the Texas border, conveniently, that's 1 mile INSIDE MEXICO! I'm fairly certain my 7 y/o daughter could have given a better presentation!! Also, is it just me, or have we as a society become so dumb that we can't spell (or even use a spell checker) or produce a legible sentence?... I'm just sayin'
  21. Got my official surgery date, Nov 14th!! Start pre-op diet on Nov 1, and have pre-op check-up on Nov 6.... Super Excited :-)

    Denied?

Billie... I too was concerned about this, we have to go through so much just to get our cases submitted to the insurance, and then it's completely out of your control while they decide. My case was submitted on Monday of this past week, and I just got the call late Friday afternoon that I was approved. It's hard to let go and have your fate in someone elses hands, someone you've never met, and may have never even talked with. Just stay positive, and don't give up!!
