  1. I hear you! I was banded one week ago. I had complications the day after surgery where I could not even swallow my own spit. I am so nervous about more complications, that I can't get excited over the future. To top it all off, my anti-depressants are too big for me to swallow and I have not taken them in a week. My nerves are frazzled! The good thing is, I have moved to full liquids and doing good. I think we have to take it one day at a time and firmly believe things WILL get better. Soooooo....you are not the only one LOL! Things are rough right now and I guess they call it bandster hell for a reason! Trust that things will get better and try to think positive thoughts! Sending well wishes your way

  2. I posted on Thursday that I was having trouble drinking my Water post-op on day of surgery. Well during the night I became unable to swallow even my own spit. I ended up in emergency Friday morning and have been on IV and cortisone for 3 days. I was pretty much swollen shut from the operation. I am finally home and have to stay on Clear Liquids for a few more days. The good thing is I have not been hungry and am satisfied from a few spoons of Jello. I asked the doctor how often he has sees someone swell up so bad and he said about 2 in every hundred. The last resort would have been for him to go in and unbuckle the band, but thankfully I have avoided that for now!

  3. I used to peel them, then put in microwave with tiny bit of Water for about 2 minutes. Then I would spray with "I cant believe its not butter spray" and sprinkler cinnamon and splenda on them. Turns out soft and tastes a bit like apple pie. Yummy low cal treat!

  4. Just a question though....are you satisfied with one serving (or maybe less) now that you are banded? I know I would end up eating way more and maybe the whole box. Just asking because my band day is tomorrow and I still have no idea how band life is. Is this what I have to look forward to?

Thanks for the chip alternative...I will have to try them once I start eating solids again!

  5. Those statistics look pretty bad.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in my opinion, the statistics are being dragged down by the paitients who were either, not ready, not serious or not educated in band usage. Also being dragged down by the fact that the older bands and sugical procedures were inferior? I believe the statistics could be much better if all of those (and maybe more) issues above were addressed and under better control?

  6. I am not sure why it went off the rails in the first place. I think all the advice here was generally good :)

My surgeon says to wait 45 seconds before drinking and I have also read, don't drink during meals at all....not for 30 minutes before and after. I think there is still a lot of learning to do when it comes to the band, even the surgeons don't necessarily agree with each other.
