  1. It has been almost 4 years since I logged in on here. I was banded Sept, of 2013. I lost 60 lbs, but gained it all back since. I am not to my official high of 350 But I"m dang close.

So long story short, I am getting Sleeved on January 31. I got my Band off in September 2018. I have waited the 3 months for it to heal. Also had a major fight with the insurance Company. They denied me twice. so we appealed to the state. The state over turned their verdict.( YAY!)

So Just wanted to say Hiya to everyone and join this forum.

  2. It's been a long time since I have been on this page. I was banded Sept. 6th 2013, and made it as low as 288. But currently back up to 301. Still down from 350, but not what I want. In June of 2014, found out I have endometriosis, and have been in and out of hospitals almost every month since. IV antibiotics, a pik line, it was.horrible.. Then I had surgery to remove an overy and fallopian tube. So not eating what I should hasn't helped, but I had a lot to deal with, so chocolate is my downfall.????

Then this past june, ended up with a horrible stomach flu, who I ended up on hospital again, my stomach swelled 2×'s it's normal size. Basically sealing the Band closed. Had to have all Fluid removed. So went back beginning of this month, he put in a small amount. But no feeling full. I'm hoping when I go back next week, he fills it up fuller. When they took out the Fluid it was 7 and half ccs. I think currently I'm at 3.

I have not been drinking soda, or milk shakes or any calories, Water and tea are my go tos. I have tried to eat with out drinking, still haven't mastered that. I will..lol.

I am still happy I got band. I am pissed I gained back almost 20 lbs. But I would do it again. ????

  3. We are like Band Twins! I had my surgery one week after you and our starting weights are so close. Before I checked in to the forum just now, I was looking at the class schedule for the gym I joined near my house. I keep saying "I'm going." and then I don't. I find excuses. We can get to the gym. We can do anything we set our minds to. We just need to set our minds...I'll nudge you if you'll nudge me :)

OH...and I've taken over three bags of clothes to Good Will so far. I've got another bag almost full. And shopping in "real" stores is the most awesome feeling in the world, isn't it?

Sounds like we are twins.. I will nudge you.. Im good at motivating other people...

  4. The title says it all.. I have been stalled for over a month. almost 6 weeks to be exact. But I am happy, I have did so well so far... and I dont wanna end the Journey, before it really begins. Holidays are just not kind, so much good food, and parties, and not keeping count of calories. Also, I need to get to the gym, I told myself, when I got below 300, I would start going.

Why am I not going? Its close to the house, My kids are in school for 4 hours in the morning daily, I have the time. But no motivation. I went thru my closest, got all the 5x tops and size 32w jeans out of there. Huge contractor bag full sitting on the floor of my room. ( I did keep 1 shirt and 1 pair of pants to remember). Still nothing.

I went to Macys and got a 2 pairs of size 24 jeans. and 2-3x tops. I actually bought clothes at a real store. Not on line. I had all my old clothes, I could not wear that I can actually wear now. I just kept them in my closet, wishing one day I would be able to wear, Now I can.

I keep telling myself, Lets wait until the new year, and start fresh. But I fear I will fail this too.

I went and had another fill on Dec 4, He only put in 1/2 cc. But I dont feel any difference in my eating. Not feeling full really.

Anyways I am done venting. I know what I need to do, Just have to follow my own advice..

Start over and get my Ass back in gear...

  5. I wanted to get another fill, I some times dont feel the restriction.. but then Monday, I had Italian sausage .. It got stuck.. and omg it hurt. Need to remember to chew well.

I still havent done much going to gym, just dont feel it yet.. :(

But a few friends can see it in my face the weight I lost. I kinda sorta can. but not much.

Just frustrating to not lose fast ya know.. lol But slow and steady wins the race.

  6. Is this thread still going on?? I thought we agreed a few days ago to follow our doctors advice.. And also do our own research to better our knowledge??

Nana stop beating a dead horse, let this thread die...

You made your point,as well as you can..what we choose as adults to listen to you or not is our choice, not yours..

Thank you for your concern over my health, but . Choose to ignore your ranting..And do as I like..which is not listening to you..

  7. Debbie,,

That area just above the band is called the lower esophagus, which if food sits there all the time can damage and stretch your esophagus, THE AREA ABOVE THE BAND IS NOT THE STOMACH, but the esophagus -- THERE IS ONLY ONE TYPE OF PROPER BAND INSTALLATION.

This photo is curiosity of the surgeon who created the Green zone, and depicts the esophagus being stretched with food sitting there for long periods of time -- which many US surgeons follow to prevent long term band complications.

    Edited to add:

Many BAD lap band surgeons follow gastric bypass rules, of the Pouch which WE DO NOT HAVE, and have the patient follow Bypass rules of not eating and drinking at the same time.

You can still lose weight with a proper adjusted band with drinking and eating, if your band is adjusted properly.

My band is on my stomach. Below the esophagus , and below the Lower esophageal sphincter.

Here is what a picture looks like of where a lap band should be.. and note in picture they even call it a pouch.

    http://www.glorysurgery.com/wp-content/uploads/lap-band.jpg

I'm sorry you had issues, and had to get re-banded, and you found information helpful to you. But its not a catch-all for everyone.

Also you never answered my 2nd question..

2- Why get a LapBand if you are going to wash the food thru the band to bottom of stomach, each time you eat.? its suppose to give you a full feeling. The full feeling switchs are on the top of the stomach, which is why you leave the food sit in the top part of stomach for a while. so you feel fuller longer.

    -Debbi

  8. So please DON'T confuse others by saying "their is actually a pouch" when IT IS NOT. AND LAP BANDERS SHOULD NOT HAVE A POUCH-- THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOUR SURGEON SAYS.

    Ok.. 2 question..

1-what do you call the area above the Lapband on the stomach and Below the esophagus? I think that is what the issue is here?

2- Why get a LapBand if you are going to wash the food thru the band to bottom of stomach, each time you eat.? its suppose to give you a full feeling. The full feeling switchs are on the top of the stomach, which is why you leave the food sit in the top part of stomach for a while. so you feel fuller longer.

Food in the esophagus hurts. anyone who leaves food here should have issues.

  9. You got this. The Halloween candy is a bad thing. It is tempting just sitting there in a bowl, everytime you walk by..

You have a few choices, Throw it away, (which may make your kids upset) Put it in a cabinet in a ziplock bag or tupper ware container..If you make it harder to just ****** a piece, you are less likely to eat it,

or you can give to a place that sends it over seas to soldiers.

The fill will help you feel full, it will not help with the cravings.. sorry to say. :( will power is the only thing that works..

    BUT YOU CAN DO IT..:)

    -Debbi

  10. My Doctor told me To drink up until I eat, and then wait an hour,

The food is in my stomach, (not a pouch but an area the size of 2 chicken nuggets.. my doctors words not mine)and not my esophagus. If it was I would feel stuck, and drink to get it unstuck..

    The stuck feeling hurts.

But I think it eventually goes to what your doctor told you. Your Doctors rules are for you not everyone. You wouldn't share your Meds with someone else.. why share advise they give?

    Just my 2cents.

  11. I have finally gotten down under 300 lbs. 296. I never want to see a 3 in front of my weight again, Heck I am worken on never seeing a 2 in front of my weight, But I am tickled to be under 3.

I have not been this weight since 2009. I can wear Jeans that I had since moved to the top of my closet, They were too small and tight.. even laying down wouldn't help. Now I can zipper them standing. The jeans I was wearing this past Spring, Literally fall off of me.

16 lbs and I will weigh what I told them on my drivers Licence. I just renewed it in April, so no new one for a while. and I will be proud to tell them the truth.

I know I have a long journey, and this is just the tip.. But.. I can now say.. I only have to lose 10lbs 15 times.. to reach my goal, and only have half of myself to lose, instead of Over half.

Yeah, I never want to see a 3 in my weight again... in any slot I think. :D

  12. As I follow this Lap Band path, my next step is meeting with the program psychologies to see if I am okay for the surgery. What does this involve? Are there tests or what?

    Thanks...

I had a physiologist prior to getting Lapband, and I was OKd thru her. If you have your own, and a good relationship with them.. ask your doctor if you can see them..

That said. I didnt have to take a test. I just talked to mine, for an hour. Regarding all the stuff that the surgery ment to me and how I felt.

  13. I feel the same way... But then I step back and see the whole Picture, I didnt gain all this weight over night.

It gets depressing, and you want to just fast forward to the end of the journey. We live in the world of instant gratification.

The skipping sweets part? Not sure what you mean by that? If you feel you need a candy bar, or piece of cake, have it. Just one serving size. Having one didnt make us this way.. eating an entire bag of halloween candy did, or a piece of cake and going back for 2nds.,

I find if i need to eat something sweet Planters Cocoa Almonds, they are amazing, 24 pieces, is 160 calories..

You can do this, your strong and can.. And vent away... it feels good.. :)

  14. Congrats on starting your Journey.. You will do fine.. You had surgery.. Hello.... It takes a while for your body to get back to its self and heal. Its difficult to say what you will lose or heck Gain in the recovery time.

Dont worry about it. You know you... Just do what your doctor tells you at your follow up appointment.. They arent gonna yell at you if that is what your afraid of.. They only wanna make sure your Healthy after surgery.. Hench why they call it a post op appointment. =P

And I know its hard, and I know its been said before... Stay off the scale.. Look at your clothes to see how they fit, Thats the true answer.. Besides Muscle weighs more then fat.,. so when you get tone, you add Muscle.. ..

Have a wonderful Day.. You deserve it..

  15. I had my 2nd fill the 25th of October. so currently I have 6.7ccs in my band, (1st was 4,4.. 2nd was 2.3)

I actually have good restriction again, yay, and have finally started loosing again, was 303 this morning. I have been drinking alot ( I'm addicted to Starbucks iced green tea) I get it unsweetened and with no water.. so its strong... add 2 splenda to it, and keep adding Water to the cup all day, and ice.. So by evening its like tea water... but it still is good. and its cheap. :P

My goal was to be under 300 by the end of October, Dunno if I can loose 4 pounds in one day, but who knows.. I am going to the gym finally when I finish posting this.

I know each doctor is different, but mine didn't have me on liquids or mushy food at all after either fill.. My only instructions were to weigh myself on Saturday and if I haven't lost anything by the following Saturday, to call him that Monday, and make an appointment... I guess he wanted me to learn what being stuck feels like.. Oh by can I tell with the 2nd fill, differently

NO BREAD!! ouchie.. or Peanut Butter, or anything I cant chew into oatmeal consistency.

About 1 cup fulls me up, and lasts for 4 to 5 hours.. LOVE the feeling.again.. I hope it lasts..

I am glad your all doing well and are on your journeys..:)

  16. Ok it's been almost 8 weeks since surgery. I have had 1 fill of 3ccs. On the 12th I'm going on.this Friday for another fill. I have stalled, and seem like I'm always hungry,, however I have been stuck about 3 times before fill and once since. ( learning to.chew) .... Also having issues with not drinking while eating..I have to work harder..

I went.to my local thrift store, and bought a few shirts in 2x size..so I have incentive to lose to wear. I have lost weight 40 lbs since start of adventure in April, my 32 pants fall off so do my 30s.. 26s I put away cuz they were to small can be zipped up with out laying on the bed..

I need to get back.to.the gym.. Just haven't wanted to.. Lol guess I'mbeing lazy.

After this coming fill. Hoping to start my journey again, and start the gym..
