Atkins diet website is a good place and they have an app to record all your foods. You can see how much protien, carbs and fat that you had and can set up goals. There are free recipes too! I enjoy the Atkins protien bars for meals and Snacks. They also have protien shakes and frozen meals full of Protein.

I need suggestions of menus for the day. What has been helpful for your continued weight loss?
My weight loss has been a struggle. My surgery was August 2013 and now in January, I am down only 45 pounds. I have been reading and found out that I should have lost at least 65 pounds by now.
I have gone down from a 1X in plus size to a loose size 14.
I would appreciate if some of you would share with me what you eat during the day. My stomach hurts when I eat red meat or bread. It is uncomfortable most times when I eat. I drink lots of Water. I have been following the Atkins diet, but my body seems to be weight loss resistant.
Please share with me when your surgery was and how much weight you have lost. I would also like to know what you eat for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do you have Snacks?
Any response will be appreciated.
Thanks.

My doctor removed my excess stomach through a lower left incision that was slightly larger than the others. Then he put a drainage tube into the incision and it was removed the second day post op. That incision healed up faster than the others and didn't leave a scar.It just occurred to me this morning that if they are removing a large portion of your stomach, and the surgery is done via laparoscopic surgery (small incisions) how is the excessed stomach removed from the body? I just read an article that says it's removed through your mouth, is this true???

Good Luck to you! I went to Mexico for my surgery too. I found that the people and hospital staff were very professional and knowledgable. I enjoyed my 3 day stay in Mexico and I hope you do too.

The same thing has been happening to me! I was sleeved August 3. I lost 24 pounds right away, then it all came to a stop! I would gain 1/2 pound, then lose 1/2 pound, now I am up from 203 to 205! I am only eating about 300-400 calories a day and drinking all the fluids. I can't force myself to eat more or I get sick. I started walking 3 weeks ago, but it isn't doing any good at making my weight go down. I am following Atkins diet only eating protien and soft vegetables. I am watching carb intake to keep it down. I am so frustrated with this. It's been almost 3 weeks since I lost any weight. Please let me know what your nutritionist tells you. Best of luck.HI everyone!!! I was sleeved 8-14-13 and weighed 338. When I went in for my first apt with the dr in April I weighed 350. And currently I weigh 323. I am SOOO frustrated and depressed and discouraged...etc. I lost down to 323 at first, then gained to 325, then dropped to 319, now back up to 323. I really just want to sit down and cry. Here is another curveball....I am still breastfeeding a 2 year old. So I am not sure how that is affecting things. It is just so hard knowing I have so much to lose, but am not losing much. I have had to go to the ER 2 x and get fluids for dehydration. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

So tomorrow is the day I start the pre op diet. I was hoping I could get some advise, quotes, tips, tricks....anything that you found out that was of help thanks!
Just stick to the diet so your liver can shrink. That is very important. Keep a smile on your face and remember that your new life will be starting very soon! Debbie

I am new to this site so this is my first post. I am scheduled to have my sleeve done on August 20th and I am getting so nervous! I am a worrier anyway so you can only imagine. I've been fortunate to have never had a surgery or been in the hospital before so this is a very new and scary thing for me. I am also very excited but I just want the surgery part to be done and over with so I can get on with it. I'm looking for buddies that are gonna be or are going through this around this time to talk and share experiences with. Can't wait to hear from you all!
Hi Ashley, my name is Debbie. I was sleeved on Saturday, August 3. You will do fine, it's not that bad. If you want to, read my blog about my journey to the hospital, surgery and recovery. I hope it gives you some piece of mind. You will be excited and anxious right before surgery and then, you will feel better. If you have any questions feel free to write me and I will answer your questions. Take Care, Debbie

Well it seems that I am 18 days before I make my life change and take the journey. But I want to know if any is dealing with people asking questions concerning you and food? I will explain what I mean. I am a big watcher of food Network and a show that comes on called Chicago's Best. I love just to see the different types of food and how it is made. Please tell me why my husband asked me if I am have surgery due to me have food issues, why do I continue to watch food shows when it's not good for me. Then he said if you have an issue with alcohol you don't keep looking at ads for liquor.
I told him just because I watch it on tv does not make food jump into my mouth. This surgery does not make me stop eating, I have to leave to work with food in my limitations I have. I can still eat, which is crazy that he thinks like I have to stop eating all foods for the rest of my life. It really makes me wonder if he was really listening when we went to the different classes about what is about to happen to me and how the rest of my life is going to be. It took me back to when I was doing weight watchers, I never told anyone because I did not want any saying what I should or should not eat and this is what this feels like now he is going to be dogging my heels about everything I put to my mouth asking "are you suppose to eat that". I was upset for a minute but then I had to remember that he has to be educated just like I have been and by doing lots of research I have learned so much. I just need to vent and see if any else is hearing these kinds of statement.
I am a big Food Network watcher too! Before and After surgery has not affected me at all. I am still watching Food Network and I still love to see different recipes. If I like one, I get onto the internet and find it and make it for my husband to eat. I still love food and just because I had gastric sleeve surgery doesn't mean I have to stop loving food! Keep on watching!

Well, it's official - our insurance will not cover the surgery and I am looking at going to self-pay route. Time to start socking away every spare penny I can. I know financing is an option but we carry no debt other than our mortgage and I hate to add to that. I am kind of tempted to pay cash for half and finance the other half. The surgeon closest to me that does self-pay is a smidge over $18K. I am also looking at other doctors in surrounding states - saw one in TX whose rates including up to two nights in the hospital and all pre-op tests for $12K. I'm not thrilled with going out of state for the surgery as I like the idea of having my doc 20 minutes from me if, God forbid, there are any post-op complications. And Mexico is not an option either for various reasons - I know it worked for some folks, but it's not for me.
Obviously now that I've decided I want to have the surgery, I want it now I figure if I save for the 18K surgery, I would have at least a year to prep and get ready for surgery. But I think that year might kill me. Regardless if I have to wait a year or several months, what did you do to prep yourself for the surgery, physically and mentally?
Why don't you look into using Dr. Rodriguez at the StarMedica Hospital? I had my surgery with him this past Saturday and it was $6500 all inclusive. I'm telling you that this hospital and this medical staff are the most clean and professional group I have encountered. I had 2 different surgeries in 2 different states and was never treated as good as these people and the added benefit is the lower price. It's worth it to look into it. If you have any questions about my experience, don't hesitate to ask. Debbie

I am eating according to hunger. If I just ate and my stomach starts grumbling, I eat on some ice chips. That usually stops it. I make sure that I eat enough protien grams with what ever I am eating so I don't get hungry.

I just got back from having surgery with Dr. Rod at the StarMedica Hospital and I was very impressed with him and his partners. The hospital and nurses were better than I experience here the states. I will go to Mexico if I ever need surgery again.

I used Dr. Garcia in Tijuana and it was a great experience. Pre-surgery weight was 352. I lost 22lbs during my pre-op diet. I'm down to 310lbs eleven days post-op. So far it has been a great experience. I had no gas pain' date=' very little surgical pain and my mind isn't messing with me yet. This seems to be a great community of sharing ideas and seeking support.[/quote']I had my surgery yesterday, August 3 with Jose Rodregous in Mexico. I was up all night with gas pain and it hurts very badly. I have a hArd Tim lying down because the pain starts up. I have been walking with my IV in the room and hallway. GasX only helps temporarily. I still haven't met my doctor but did meet his partner. So far all is good except the gas.

I'm scheduled for August 8. Just found out toddy. I've read on here about 1-2 weeks on liquid diet. My doctor only told me to be on the liquid diet for two days prior to surgery. Anybody know why the times are so different?
My doctor had me start a protien diet with no more than 70 grams of carbs the week before surgery. Every doctor is different from what I have read in these comments. I am following the Atkins phase 1 online diet right now and tomorrow nothing to eat, only sips of Water since my surgery is tomorrow.

I did the same thing, eating everything I love, no limits. I am not doing that now that my surgery is this Saturday. Enjoy yourself since you won't be able to eat those quantities again. My sister pigged out on ice cream and sweets before she had to do the pre-op diet. I think just about everyone does this even though they might not admit to it. Debbie

I gain up to 2 pounds about once a month. It goes back down plus a couple of pounds later. It could be Water retention, I have to watch salt intake.
