  1. gas x comes in a strip and they are easy to take. Lots of liquids. Miralax doesnt hurt either. Goes really good in morning coffee and from the sounds of it, nearly everybody seems to have the bowel issues after surgery.
  2. This forum is great. I've learned alot here. As for taking your life back, this is certainly a very good start.
  3. I buy the Premier protein shakes from SAMs Club. They are delicious.
  4. Surgery is never an easy decision. I felt like you do. I was getting heavier and heavier and I hated looking at myself in the mirror and cringed at the thought of buying clothes. Not to mention I was short of breath when walking and tieing my shoes. I took the plunge and am happy I did. I'm down 45 lbs so far and feel a whole lot better. I'm not in the green zone yet but the weight is gradually but definitely coming off.
  5. i've been using lose it and like that app. I may start trying MFP and see if its better. I have both on my phone and MFP has more foods listed. Just would have to get use to the format.
  6. I didnt like the thought of exercising either when I first started. Now I look forward to it. Esecially the feeling I have after I exercise. I like the thought of ramping it up every week. My doc told me today to change your pattern up a little each week to keep you body guessing therefore losing.
  7. I am a nurse. I have seen lots of patients with lots of complications from gastric bypass and from sleeve. The only problem I saw in.Hospital setting from band so far was a lady who became bulimic and tried to pass it off as something else. They had to remove her band because they thought the band was the problem, but it wasn't the problem at all. I know there are other problems that can come up but at least the band is reversible. I had a pt with dumping syndrome really bad then she developed chronic constipation. BM every 2 to 3 weeks. Doctors just scratched their heads. Said too much scar tissue. They even put her on hospice for a while. She's 50 and looks and acts 70. Skinny yes, but much more than that....just sayin
  8. I saw my doc today and discussed calories with her. She said no less than 1200 cal a day and work my way up from there. She even broke it down by proteins carbs and fats. Guess I'll give this a shot. She was very satisfied with my weight-loss so far. I got a 0.5cc fill.
  9. Remember, you are in survival mode at this time due to reduced calorie. Spend more time concentrating on healing. Don't worry about the scales yet. Sometimes it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the swelling down then you should start seeing some weight loss.
  10. Surg May 10.....44 lbs down
  11. You'll do great. We're rooting for you.
  12. All I took with me was my gas strips and my bottle of liquid pain med. All I ended up needing was gas strips. Really, it depends if you have to spend the night, most don't. I wore home what I wore in. Just make sure its loose fitting clothes, not binding.
  13. I think my metabolism has picked up quite a bit since I've been spending so much time at the gym. I'm going to try to increase my calories and hope it doesn't backfire on me.
  14. Looking good girl. I love this forum and what everybody does for each other. I'm a member of a motorcycle forum and that one just ended up costing me money......Gosh I love this forum!!!!
  15. Just curious. When this kind of thing happens, are you out the expense for all the repairs or does the sugeon take the responsibility?
  16. I'm going to ask my doctor tomorrow for recommendations, but I was just wondering, how many calories you take in per day. I use iphone app "Lose it" and my settings are for 2 lbs a week and it suggests for my current weight 994 calories per day. I also work out but try not to reabsorb those calories. I was just wondering, is this enough calories? Am I over reaching? I started thinking this could account for slow weight loss. What do you guys think? On the other hand, I am losting 5 to 6 lbs a month,so thats not that bad, and since I'm not in the green zone yet. It is pretty much a constant diet.
  17. Wow, thats great. Congratulations.
  18. I'm pretty sure its a mental addiction not physical. Lay it down say its bad for me and move on. My surgeon told me to stay away from it as it causes lots of gas and can cause band slippage.
  19. 4.5 months into my journey and I'm halfway there. I ve lost 45 lbs and have approx 45 to go ( I 'll decide that by how I feel when I get closer). I know it'll take me more than 4.5 months to finish as weight loss has slowed down a lot. I'm exercising, trying not to diet as much as eat right and the way I hope to eat for the rest of my life. I feel I have more of a chance of being successful if I do it that way. I have only had one fill which pretty much I cant tell, so this Monday, I go in again hopefully for another fill. This board has inspired me so much and I think I would have had alot of trouble doing this without it. Thanks alot guys. I love you all for the support advise and learning I've received from this site.
  20. The first few days are the worse then it just gets better. Keep posting and watching the forum as it has helped me alot. They say that people who join support groups have a 50% better success rate. You are lucky to have someone share this with you. Hubby has been dieting with me and hes lost 30 lbs and is nearly at goal. Its very encourageing and a little competitive which is also healthy. Good luck and stay posted.
  21. I also had the band with plication. My surgeon suggested it and I said why not. He told me it would lessen the likelyhood of slippage and also decrease the size of my stomach (basicaly they fold the stomach into itself and stitch it. Sort of like the sleeve without the cutting. Plus if I lose the band, I keep the plication and some people have been know to lose the weight with just the plication itself. I believe Carolinagirl hasnt had a fill yet and shes lost lots of weight. I have only had one fill thus far and even though, I believe the fills will help me lose it better, the plication has definitely helped so far.
  22. Mysery loves company and they may be miserable and jealous. I told my best friend who is slender and she was absolutely supportive. In fact, she still has my fatter picture come on the screen when I call her just so she can show me and everyone around us how far I've come. Your friends, if they are true friends will come around. Liklely they'll have alot of questions for you when they see that it is successful.
