  1. Has anyone been on vacation yet after their band? I went out of town over the holiday and I felt tight. I had been to a different city with even higher elevation and had no problem. I did sip some coffee, someone suggested that and it did help.

I am scheduled for a fill Friday. I have only been able to eat 400-700 cal a day and am not hungry. Don't think I need it. Still having problems getting in all my fluids.

I did not have access to the forum over vacation and really needed all of you!

  2. I was banded Aug 6 and it took me 3 weeks to feel better. I have had many different surgeries and this was the worst by far. I have had an open appendectomy, csection, gallblaldder and flew threw those. This one was took me the longest to recover from. I had the 'what did I do' moments all the time for the first week and a half. Now I'm 3.5 weeks out and I'm fine. Just take your pain meds routinely, ice, sleep and take care of yourself.

  3. Anyone care to share when they had their first bowel movement? I have had gas at this point but still no bowel movements and i was banded at 10 on the 28th

SORRY FOR TMI but i think its probably important to figure out!

I thought i would put a picture of my incisions incase any one wants to see! I think they are far from gross' date=' in fact they seem to be pretty cool battle scars!

So sorry if i gross anyone out![/quote']

Your right those are your badges of courage! I didn't have a bm for 5 days. There was nothing to come out. The first time was loose and I was surprised because all of the pain medication. As long as you are passing gas your colon is awake. If you are not you need to call the doc. If you are really concerned I was told to take some senna or milk of magnesia.

  4. I had my first follow up a week after surgery. I feel like I am not getting enough nutrients even though I am not hungry. But I am down 20 lbs from post op. He said I had a huge hernia that will take longer to mend. Overall I think it went well. I have 6 more days of liquids and then on to mushie food!

Wow you are doing great! Oh those mushie foods will taste soooo good. Good job.

  5. Well I was admitted into the hospital this afternoon. Doc thinks the pouch is swollen and not allowing anything to pass. He drained my band and the gush of Water I had drank throughout the morning hit my stomach like a brick. He gave a little Water to me and it started all over again. So I am nothing by mouth now laying in a hospital.

I am posting from the app and still feeling my way around it

I'm so sorry that you are feeling bad. If I might ask, how long ago was surgery? I hope you get better soon. No fun to be in the hospital but then again nor is being dehydrated. The iv Fluid will help you feel better while the swelling is going down.

  6. Alright band buddies. Should we start a monthly challenge under our Aug 2013 support group? From what I can tell you give your basic info: screen or real name, starting weight, weight now, and goal weight at the end of the month. We can modify and do it however we want. I hope we all can continue to be in our support group for years to come as this will be a life long process and for me personally I enjoy talking to everyone. I love that we are from all over the world. Let me know your thoughts.

  7. Ok bandsters.. after a day of needles with dental surgery in the morning and my first fill in the afternoon' date=' I can tell you that I almost didn't feel a thing when the doc put the needle in my port! My port is 1 inch below my largest incision, and he took about 30 seconds to find it. It was the tiniest little pinch as the needle went in, and then I didn't feel a thing! But I do have the say, the needle is HUGE. I started to sweat when I saw it but it really was nothing. And the good news was I am only on liquids for today. Tomorrow I can go back to normal food. Yay!! My doc seemed very surprised though when he asked me if I had been hungry and I said yes.. Hmmm. According to his scales I had lost 3lbs in the two weeks since I saw him last, but according to my scales, I have stayed the same. But I have since realised that his assistant weighed me with the shoes on a fortnight ago, and he weighed me without my shoes. So I'm fairly confident it was my shoes that lost 3lbs!!! I have felt a little less hungry since the fill but I think that could be just my head telling my tummy to do better now I've had a fill :)[/quote']

Hey if it helps mentally as well there is nothing wrong with that. I hope that it does help your hunger. I would still be excited about 3 lbs. Even if it was shoes! I'm glad you get to eat real foods tomorrow. Let us know.

  8. I'm praying for you!!! Oh' date=' I'm so sorry! My heart just aches for you :'( I totally understand the emotional eating. Try & remember the good memories with him...that may ease some of the pain during this time.....I was wanting to be an emotional eater today. Today was my first day back to work & I feel like I was hit by a train. I cannot eat because my stomach is tight. I'm miserable.[/quote']

Thanks Jama. I'm sorry you had a rough day. I heard that stress can make the band tight. Has anyone had this happen?

  9. Well....I'M BANDED! feeling very good at the moment' date=' decided to stay at the hospital over night because well why not, I enjoy having medical professionals watching over me.

My stomach was "floppy and stretched" so he gave me 5 Patterson stitches (sewed my stomach to the other side of my stomach) making it look similar to the sleeve procedure

    Anyone have that?

    Also NO GAS PAIN

Does that come later? So far I feel great, well wishes to everyone![/quote']

I'm glad you are doing well and life is good. I have never heard of that other procedure. Hopefully that helps as well. Keep us updated.

  10. I'm praying for you :) Emotional pain is the worst kind of pain and I'm the same as you.. food is my drug to numb the pain!! I lost my mum suddenly almost 4 years ago. My thoughts are with you today because I know how hard it is on these days.. anniversaries' date=' birthdays, Christmas. It makes you miss and think about your loved one even more than you do on any other day. And unfortunately the food only works for as long as you're eating it and then you feel even worse afterwards. Stay strong and I'll keep you in my prayers :)[/quote']

Thank you I appreciate that. You are right I would feel worse after overeating but it was a distraction for me. Sorry about your mom. Loss is always hard.

  11. Today it hit home how much I miss overeating. My brother was killed 18 years ago today and it is a turning point because I was 18 when he died. I have officially lived with him as long as I have lived without him. I so just want to go to mcdonalds for a mcgriddle for Breakfast, lunch a Mexican food combination plate, supper sushi and an udon platter, and a large blizzard for a snack. Yes 'treating' myself is what got me into this mess and swallowing my emotions. Now I have to feel something other than overheating pain. The physical pain is much easier to deal with than emotional. I used to distract myself with working too much and school. I think I kept going to school to distract myself from dealing with the past. Now I just have to deal with emotion. Ugh. Need prayer today.

  12. I don't know anyone that didn't have second thoughts. I had second thoughts right before they wheeled me back for surgery. I had coworkers tell me I didn't need the surgery and I looked fine but I didn't feel fine. That was the biggest thing. I am 36 and was starting to have health problems. I knew I couldn't go on like this. I needed energy and needed to ward off the impending health issues. You need to do what is best for you. Can there be complications? Yes. Could I die from the weight and have a poor quality life? Yes.

  13. I got my band today. Been walking after I was finally able to keep my eyes opened. I keep getting the hiccups that hurt soo bad & I feel this awful chest like pain. I think my pain killer is hung or something.

    Holly

Hang in there it will get better. I am 3 weeks out and have little tenderness at port but otherwise no pain. Always glad to talk if you need to vent.

  14. Love reading all your posts healthydnp! How are you feeling?

    Hi Jama!

I am doing much better. My energy is finally turning a corner and I started exercising today. I am down 15 lbs since surgery and I still have 2 weeks off! I'm going to enjoy them! I'm glad you are doing well and I understand the chips. I would love to eat a blizzard right now. Ice cream was my thing!

  15. ?...how would one get a tt if the port is midsection left? I found some relief this am and chewed some sf bubble gum. Tasty! Nothing to eat yet 4 more days. Can't wait to have a glass of milk. I think I need a Protein drink....weak & tired. That'll even taste great. My sugar this am was 238. I am on clear liquids. So it has to do with my meds. But I don't take my metformin or amaryl just insulin but it's terrible to be so dependant upon this. Will it never go away? I have been a monster amount of pills not just cause of diabetes but other chronic dieases since 1980. I am so sick of taking pills that I could just cry which I've done on many occasions but I realize I am not physically disabled. Still have most of my brain wonderful family and my God. That makes it all worth it but I do feel sorry for myself at times. Anyone else live near Tampa?

    Donna

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. It is okay sometimes to have a pity party. I have them too. One of my favorite ministers Joyce Meyer always says you can be pitiful or powerful but you cannot be both. That has become the motto of my life. I am a nurse practitioner and most of my patients who have been banded need less medication as the weight comes off. They were an inspiration for me to get banded. I will pray for you.

  16. Hi' date=' I'm Laura and starting pre op for two weeks tnis morning. Surgery on the 9th. While I do need to loose weight I am mostly doing this to improve my diabetic control. Bmi is 36- hope to loose 10 before surgery which means I will be down to my pre stroke weight. How bloated were you after surgery from gas? I heard it is so bad clothes don't fit. Any takers on this? Exited to get going and enjoy the friendships and support on this site.[/quote']

    Laura

I had some gas pain but my pain was in my back and shoulders. If you stay on top of your pain meds and use a heating pad it goes away within a couple days. My clothes fit fine when I left in fact even better! My port is sore at times and I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I'm not diabetic but am insulin resistant and my blood sugars have stabilized. This is a great group.

  17. I will be four weeks out as of Tuesday. Haven't started exercising yet bc I want to go to the gym and right at the moment I am without a car and I have to rely on other people. However I do have the biggest loser game for the wii so until then that will be my workout and trust me I tried that workout a long time ago before lap band even crossed my mind and it about killed me lol.

I'm just curious does anyone else have the problem of people who know you have had lap band do you feel like they are constantly watching you while you eat and when you're done and judge you for how much u ate. and like right now I am eating more but it's bc I need my first fill tonight I did have pizza it was thin crust and I ate four pieces and my mom was like how much have you ate? I mean obviously I'm doing something right bc I keep losing weight. Just was wanting to know if anyone else had this problem.

And for lunch at work I have my bread that is low calorie and I have turkey bologna with mustard a string cheese sugar free pudding and apple sauce so I don't think that's to bad

I sent think you are doing anything wrong either. If you are hungry you are eating, If you aren't then you aren't. I think it is easy for people that are not in our shoes to judge but they don't know when you are full and what you are fans aren't tolerating. Keep doing what you are if you are losing weight.

  18. My energy has been a lot better! I have been a good girl and taking my Vitamins everyday. And it has made a huge difference! I started walking on my treadmill about two weeks ago' date=' but just very gently and only for about 10 minutes. The last week I've upped it to twice a day for 15 minutes. I suppose I should be doing different types of exercise but its just easy to use the treadmill. It sits in the corner of our family room and I can jump on at any time of the day. What exercise are you planning?[/quote']

I am going to start walking tomorrow because I have to go back to work in 2 weeks and need the endurance. I want to swim but need to wait another week. I hope my energy will get better soon.
