  1. Yes I agree he is wrong. But when I know I am watching every bite and personally know I have overcome a lot of my food issues. I am very sad about being 8 months out and maintaining same weight for 6 months or losing what seemed to be the same 5 lbs. my friend had the sleeve and she just hit 135 she was 229lbs when I had surgery. She had it a month after me.

I wont give up but hope my doc was serious about this being my last fill. I didn't pay thousands to lose 30 lbs.

I feel your pain and I hope that this is just a slow process and your not at the end but just the beginning. I fear for myself as well, as I am just a couple weeks past my surgery date, and my fear is the same as yours! There does seem to be many people here that have made it, and my hope for you and myself and everyone here that we can one day feel that our weight problem is behind us!

  2. Im on my 4th fill doc says I have about 7 cc. Im officially feeling restriction and can only get in 2 small meals since my fill. Now Im down 38 lbs total HOWEVER!! I am 8 months out and 1st 20lbs came off in 1st 2 months. My surgeon seemed very upset with me. He said he hopes this is my last fill! What???

Isn't this for tool for life?

My general doc said 35 seems about all I should have expected and If I wanted to lose more I should have had the sleeve.

Im very down and feeling regretful. Especially when I am trying to stay under 800 calories and cut out almost all carbs and sugars.

    Highest weight 224 12/09/12

    Current 186

    Height 5'1

Mis73 lost somewhere around 200 lbs I believe, so your PCP Doc got it wrong. Large amounts of weight can come off with the help of the band.

  3. One important thing to remember- the band's job isn't to physically stop you from eating. Many people accidentally end up too tight trying to achieve this. The band is there to control your hunger and allow you to be satisfied on much less food- not force you to stop eating. In fact, if you eat until the point of pain, not only have you over ate but you risk complications.

Here's how Dr. Simpson explains it:

"The Lap-band is NOT about Restriction

When talking about the band, some patients talk about restriction. Let's first be clear about one thing: the purpose of the band is not restriction; the purpose of the band is to lose weight by suppressing the appetite.

When band professionals talk about restriction we are talking about something totally different than "restricting what a person eats." In fact, many band surgeons avoid talking about restriction so as to not confuse patients. The band works by dimming the appetite, and this provides a conscious control and decision made by the patient, it does not work by "making" a person do something, or keep them from eating too much.

The Lap-band works by suppressing your appetite

As a result, you are less interested in food between meals, making it easier to resist temptation. The analogy is when you are near a vending machine when you are hungry-- what do you do? Probably find yourself with some junk food that is not a part of your plan. But, when you pass a vending machine when you are full, it may not even catch your eye. Having the appetite dimmed makes you less tempted by the many food choices modern living throws at you - -this is what the band does, by suppressing appetite you become less interested in food."

    Best wishes.

I think Mis73 Doctors statment on restriction, should be a sticky!

  4. You may still be a bit out of the green zone. It took four fills before the feeling of being satiated started to turn into "Gee, I really don't wanna take anudder bite."

I haven't had my first fill yet, so I know that I have a way to go,but as I'm eating I'm trying to feel! Ain't happening, just to many years of mindless eating to excess, and only being happy when the gut is stuffed!

  5. Thanks but everything went good today. Got my lapband the 19th took forever tho. I have bad gas pain. Does anyone know anything else besides gas ex to relieve this gas. I cant sleep! I walk alot as well so idk

You can get into a position that helps gas flow; get on hands and knees, dip your head down flat to floor surface while keeping posterior up. I learned this from my wife and it works!

  6. Did any of you come from a fat family? My Grandmother was morbidly obese, my father is morbidly obese and both my brother and I have been obese all of our lives..we both weighed over 9lbs at birth and were both born at 7 months. My mother however was a toothpick, maybe 100 lbs ( wet)

Can some of it be genetics coupled with the fact we like food?

My husband was so suprised to hear I wanted this surgery he has told me for years I eat like a bird..so how come Im obese? Could it be I just ate the wrong foods, not large quantities of food? Who knows..maybe a little of both..all I know is I feel liI'mIam finally getting this ( fat) monkey off my back. Thank God for my band!!!

My Folks were born in (F)1918 an (M)1920 and I think that the fat stigma was not quite the same. Boths side did not have weight problems early, but with age they got heavier, on dads side he followed his father genetically speaking and had a bottom belly and I also follow that trait(my brother did not). I don't ever remember their weight being and issue and I am not that much heavier than my dad, both of us wear 46-48 waist (we are wide even when thinner). They came through the the Great Depression then WWII.

My grandparents on my mothers side were born (GF) 1868)(GM) 1877

So what I think is; that staying alive was the main focus and they ate anything that they could by way of employment, and small family food plots.

  7. July 8 is my date. I feel pretty good. I still have swelling and/or gas pain at the sternum area. Still feel pretty full but do get head hungry.Starting pureed food was great, my Doc told me to grind anything I like long as it's not junk food, Protein first, then veggies make sure to eat 3 square meals. Eat slow and don't over eat! Hell I've been dieting most of my life, I know what the right or wrong foods are, but don't know when I'm full!

  8. Try this one. bake/micro squash, scrap into bowl and let cool- add 1 T chopped fresh thyme,2 cloves minced garlic, 1/2 C good quality Parm cheese, 1 t cracked pepper- mix. On greased/sprayed cookie sheet make ping-pong size balls. bake in 350 oven, ten minute or till golden brown brown on top. These spaghetti squash bits are ez and are best served warm. Tell me what u think.

  9. My phase 2 go's like this; pureed foods, Baby food consistency foods - nothing you need to chew. Eat Protein first, pureed chicken, scrambled eggs , mash low fat cottage cheese, smooth low cal yogurt, or low cal pudding. Then move onto mild pureed veggies such as carrots, green Beans (avoid gassy veggies) Start taking chewable multi Vitamin and Calcium supplement. Eat 3 to 4 meals per day.Stop eating at first sign of fullness. Do not over eat. Do no not eat and drink together. No fluids half an hour prior to meals, with meals and 1 hour after meals to allow fullness and proper digestion. Continue Phase 2 for ___.

  10. Only 7 days post op and was dropping the pounds nicely. About 15lbs at day 6. So it surprised me a lot that today GAINED .80 LBS ! How can that happen on liquid diet? I figured about 540 calories daily from Protein shakes and broth comes in very cheap @ no more than 10 calories per serving in using bouillon!

The big question is if still on a liquid diet and have no more than say 700 cal's, I can gain weight? Exercise increase and/or less calories is known to cure this, but come on 700 calories!
