    24 and getting banded!!

I am 26. And I was just banded on 7/26/13. I am a "low bmi" bandster...but I am 17 days post op and have lost 13.6 pounds total. Good luck in your journey!
  2. Alright people...I am slowly approaching WEEK 3 post op!! Come Saturday, I get to be on mushies. Anyone have any good suggestions on what they have eaten during this time!?! Thank you all in advance! Toni
  3. I am 5'0 and weighed in at 160 the day of surgery. (BMI of 31.8) If you are self-pay, yes, there are doctors that will do it. Insurance will not cover it, most likely. I was just banded on 7/26/13.
  4. Last night, the dermabond came off of my incision. I had my surgery on July 26th (about 10 days ago). Can someone tell me if this looks like something I need to go get checked? It isn't bleeding or oozing. It is closed...just the top portion of skin isn't fully closed. Or do you think it will heal on its own. I am worried that it is not healing right. Thank you!!
  5. thank you all for your responses! i appreciate them greatly!
  6. I already called the doctor this morning...they said if I am not running a fever, have chills, it isn't oozing, or warm to the touch, I should be fine. I don't have any of those symptoms. I am just a worry wart...and wanted to get other peoples' opinions on what to do.
  7. I will be entering Post Op Week 2 on Saturday. Week 1 has been strictly Clear liquids (broth, popsicles, Water, crystal light, etc) Week 2 is "thicker liquids": From my doctors' post op instructions: One of any of the following: Resume your pre-op Protein shakes! Bariatric Advantage shakes, Optifast Shakes, Myoplex, smoothie King Gladiator Shakes (As meal replacement) Tomato Soup, other Soups without chunks, water NOT MILK! Can someone tell me any soups or anything they suggest? Looking to enjoying something other than broth! LOL Thank you for all your support!

    Post Op Week 2 (Eating)

I am sleeping the same that I have slept since I had surgery 8 days ago. I still can only sleep on my right side or on my back. My port is above my belly button kinda to the left, so sleeping on my left side hasn't been an option. I know many people that say they couldn't sleep in a bed the first couple of nights, I guess I got lucky. My mom and dad had lapband 2 and 3 years ago...so my mom instructed me an easy way to get in bed without it hurting. LOL My mom's instructions: Sit on the side of the bed with your feet dangling. Slowly lay down on the bed with your upper body. Once you get down, then pull your feet up. Once I got to that position, I just slowly backed up to somewhat get closer to the middle of the bed. LOL 8 days later...and I am still doing this! To help the pain, which helped me alot, was while lying in bed, I would put a heating pad on my lower back on the left side (helped with gas pain). Anyways, I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions! Toni

    Post Op Week 2 (Eating)

I am doing good. I am not going to lie to you and tell you it has been easy. The first couple of days after surgery...I literally wanted to cry. I was so emotional and questioning, "What the heck did I do to my body?" I was having regrets thinking, "Should I have done this?" But I can tell you, just one week since surgery and my mindset has completely reversed. I am 13.6 pounds down since I started my journey and 6 pounds since surgery and feeling 95% better than a couple of days ago. I realize my weightloss isn't has much as others, but I started with a 31 BMI. So on the lower end. Incisions are beginning to itch and still are sore...but I am up and moving. I had my surgery on Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. I have been on clear liquids this week...my mouth is watering at the thought of being on soups for this coming week! LOL All in all, everything is going good. Point of advice...don't let the first couple of days get you down or make you "regret" getting it done. They are the hardest. Get past those...and you will feel much better about your decision! Good luck in your journey!

He put those in the Week 3 (Soft Food) Category.
  11. I'm 26, and getting banded July 26th. I went and visited my ObGyn for a check up and she was not very welcoming to the news about my LapBand decision. She doesn't agree since I haven't had kids yet. Anyone out there who LapBand before having children? Also, how was the pregnancy with the LapBand? Any complications? Pain? Etc. My doctor made me really nervous today about my decision and I wanted to get other peoples opinions! Thank you!
  12. I just got banded yesterday. Surprisingly, pain was pretty minimal. I'm on Day 2, and it seems to be a little more stiff and a little more painful. But all in all, not all that bad. Just uncomfortable. I'm trying to walk around the house, drink Water, drink Protein shake, eat popsicles, broth...etc. Thanks for everyone's support through this!

    LapBand Before Having Kids/Pregnancy

Thank you all for your responses. It is much more reassuring I'm doing the right thing after hearing your stories. I just know my ObGyn looked at me like I was crazy when I told her. She thinks at 26 and a BMI of 32...that I should continue to try to lose weight without having the LapBand, especially since I have no kids yet. It is very comforting reading all your successes with the band and pregnancy. Thank you!

  17. I am getting banded on July 26th and needless to say, I am wayyyy nervous! All these thoughts are running through my head and I can't make them stop. I am a 26 year old, low BMI bander (BMI 32) looking to regain control of my eating habits before it is way to late! Both my parents have had LapBand for 2-3 years...so I know majority of the ups and downs. However, that is not calming my sense of nervousness! Any tips/advice/etc. to help calm my nerves! Thanks in advance!

LOL I am the same wayyy. I overthink EVERYTHING. But I have seen both my parents go through this transformation...so I have seen the good and bad sides. Getting banded July 26th & BMI 32

LOL I was telling a co-worker that the other day...that I am way excited...but getting really nervous reading everyone's blogs and concerns. I guess I am psyching myself out! LOL I am just ready for July 26th to get here! I am ready to start my journey!

I'm 20 and just got the band!

Adrienne21- Thank you for saying that. I have only told my parents (who also have lapband and think what I am doing is for the best and I completely have their support), my sisters (who are totally against it, but say although they think it is wrong, they will support me), and one co-worker at work who I have her support. She says, you have to do what you need to, to be happy. All in all...I know the decision I am making is for my own happiness and can't wait to start my banded journey! I am skeptical of telling anyone else...however I know once I am banded and start losing weight...people are going to ask "OMG, you look soo good, how did you lose all that weight.". I think when the time comes and I feel confident and happy that it won't matter if I tell them lapband. That is how my parents were...they kept their surgery hush hush until they dropped a good amount of weight and now it doesn't matter who knows...bc they are happy with themselves. I love this site. I find myself just browsing forums randomly just to see what people are going through. Thank everyone on here for the support.

I'm 20 and just got the band!

I am 26 and also considered a low bandster with a BMI of 32. I'm getting banded on July 26th. I have no kids (which is one concern my sisters have with me getting this done). But it's nice to read of others around my age getting lap band. I've heard the "easy way out" comment from a couple of people that I have talked to...but I definitely don't see it as that. Thank you all for sharing your stories...makes it more comforting to read what others are going through. Thank you!
