  1. I'm 4 days out! And the gas pain in my chest and back are horrible.. Is this normal

Yes!! So normal, or at least for me! I'm 5 days post op and am still having a difficult time taking big breaths. But it does seem to get better everyday! Walking really really does help! And Gas-x will do you wonders! Try that!

  2. I'm currently 5 days post op, I started at 197, and I am currently down 15 lbs (pre-op diet included) to 182 lbs. The past few days I have been completely satisfied with broth and Jello, but now that I am feeling better, I'm intensely craving REAL food. Have any of you experienced this as well? Are there other things to eat that I just haven't thought of for the 1 week post op liquid diet? If not, how did you deal with the hunger?!

  3. Hey everyone! Just wanted to check back in and let yall know how everything is going! I'm now 5 days post op and the spasms haven't let up, but I've spoken with my doctor and apparently, although not common, are okay to have. He explained that some people just have more sensitive stomachs than others. They are still very painful but they said they should dissipate over time! Time better hurry up!

  4. Hey guys, I'm 23 and I have been banded for 4 days now. I am also one of the smaller bandings my doctor told me he had done, but I definitely don't think it's the easy way out! It's easy to see it that way from the outside, but it's a lot of work. Even the pre-op diet was extremely difficult for me! I started at 197, lost 10 lbs with the pre-op diet, and have lost 6 more lbs since the surgery. I can already see some definite differences in the way I look and I've already almost reached my first goal (to get back down to the 170's)! Eeeek! So exciting!

  5. I was banded this past Wednesday (July 3rd 2013) and from the moment I woke up out of surgery, I felt HORRIBLE. I was in a immense amount of pain. Over the next 24 hours it only got worse and my doctor had to call in a pain medicine nasal spray. The next night, the pain was still so bad that I had to go to the emergency room and have air bubbles removed from my band. That did seem to help some. The doctor on call in the emergency room explained to me that the pain I was experiencing was due to stomach spasms. Now that pretty much all of the pain has passed, except for the spasms, I notice they happen pretty frequently, and are VERY painful. Has anyone else had a hard time post op? And has anyone had stomach spasms as well? If so, how did you treat them? My medicine doesn't seem to do anything!

  6. Thank you guys for replying! I am happy to hear that all of you are successful thus far with your plication! I'm excited to go through with it, but the thought of having your stomach folded seems a bit odd so I just wanted to see what others thought!

And thank you Carolina girl for the X-ray!

  7. Oh wow! That's so inspirational! Thank you for replying. I think I have everything I may need all set and ready to go, but I hadn't even considered what I might wear on the surgery day, so thank you! The thing I'm most nervous about is taking my first sip of Water after surgery. Will it feel weird?! Surgery doesn't scare me at all, but altering my body does. It just makes me a little apprehensive.

  8. My surgery date is just around the corner! (July 3rd) I'm extremely excited, it seems like I've been waiting forever! At my pre-op appointment my doctor asked if I would like to take part in a study regarding the lap band WITH plication. At the time, I had never heard of such thing. Essentially, it's when your doctor, along with the lap band, also folds your stomach in half and adds a few stitches to keep it that way. From what I've been reading, it's really effective in keeping the band from slipping as well as helps the weight come off even faster. From what I understand, it's sort of like the equivalent to a gastric bypass without the cutting. But I could be mistaken! Has anyone had any experience with plication or know someone who has?! Please let me know!

  9. Okay, guys. I'm a little nervous. I have been on the two week pre-op liquid diet for the past 8 days. I was doing fine for the first few, until I went out of town for a family vacation to the College World Series. I didn't follow my liquid diet at all for three days. (Eeeeek! I know I know) But it was a lot more difficult to adhere to the program when I was sitting down with my family at each meal in a restaurant. ANYWAY, I have 6 days until my surgery and am super worried that my doctor will open me up, see my liver and refuse to do the surgery. I have lost 5 lbs so far, down from 197 to 192. I plan to follow the guidelines until the surgery, but I'm just worried! Any thoughts?

  10. Hello! I'm only on day one and am "mourning" food. I have a serious reliance on it and have been trying to prepare myself. The best advice I can give you is that you've been through a great amount of hoops to jump through already, as miserable as it is now--it'll be worth it! It's also preparing us for our post-op lifestyle. We can do this :)

I know! I feel I've done pretty well so far (besides having a nibble off of my toddler's hot dog today and maybe a bit more cottage cheese for a snack than my doctor said was allowed) But I feel that if I can do this without anything but willpower, then the band is going to be something I can handle! I'm so excited. I seriously just can't believe I'm finally about to start my journey back DOWN the ladder of weight instead of up. Hasn't been that way in a long time!
