    Off To The Hospital!

Back home now. Surgery went well, EGD shows no leak. Just working on getting sips in. I feel very tired, napping all the time today. I'm sure most of it is due from the pain meds. A little sore on my left side but I am able to move around pretty well. Hoping I feel better each day.

    Need Some Encourgement

Just finished my week on the pre op diet, surgery in the morning. For me, being distracted was the best thing for me to forget about the hunger. I got huge puzzles that my sister and I did at night to keep my brain occupied. I also made her play board games, decorated for Christmas etc. it felt more real than it has so far being on the diet. All week I had a range of thoughts from, "am I sure I can do this?, is this right for me?". Bottom line, think about the reasons you chose to do this in the first place, it helped me get through this week. It was much more emotional than I thought it would be, and confirmed what a messed up relationship I have with food. We can do this, we get a second chance to prove to ourselves we are worth it! Good luck to you, I know you will do great!!!

    Pre-Op Diets

I am finishing up day three of my pre-op diet, surgery is Monday: 2.5 protein shakes per day 1 8 ounce glass of 100% fruit juice At least 64 ounces of clear liquids which include: water, crystal light, sugar free kool-aid. Sugar free Popsicles, broth. Having a hard time with the shakes, I'm sick of all the sweet of everything, I crave salty food.

I also hate the shakes, but am following the diet. The last few days I have been emotional about not being able to eat, this is harder than I anticipated. Two more days with the shakes then pure liquids. Surgery on Monday!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Tell me about it. Plus I'm prepping to cook my world famous candied yams, deviled eggs and Sweet Potato Pies for Thanksgiving. My sister agreed to do it this year to spare me the torture, but my family voted and said..NO WAY..we'll just sit with you and support you while you're cooking. Just finished making the homemade pie crust and I use a bit of vanilla and lemon flavoring in the crust, and mixed with real butter and the sprinkle of cinnamon on the bottom.. O.M.G. iT SMELLS SOOOOOO GOOD. LOL But I've been sucking down water and chicken broth..and listening to music..dancing about while I'm cooking. Just took a break because pie crusts are almost done..and all the other prep work has been completed. We can do this... Oy! Bless you, I do not know how you are doing this while cooking...I wont even go in my kitchen!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Day 2 of pre op. I don't feel hungry, but I want so badly to eat normal food. I am good up until 4:00, then I go through a hissy fit with myself that I can't eat. December 2nd can't get here fast enough!!

Right there with you. I was fine all day, but this is the time of night I usually eat the most calories. My tummy is saying I am not hungry, but my head says I am STARVING. This is tough!

I have a blender ball with the ball whisk in it. My nut wants me to mix it with skim milk. The taste is fine, it's actually good. I am hoping I just get used to it, but I find myself gagging. It's only a week I guess!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hello! Started my pre-op diet today. I am choking down the shakes. I like the flavor, but the foaminess/thickness is a problem for me. I have to do three a day, with other clear liquids. It's only a week, but I am hoping it gets better. My sister and I got in a huge fight last night (we live together temporarily), and I'm just having a tough day. Still excited for surgery on Monday. I hope everyones week is going well so far!
  13. Start my liquid diet tomorrow, I'm very nervous! I know it's only a week, but we have some family issues going on. I got into a huge fight with my sister, who I currently live with. Just your typical all kinds of things coming to a head and boiling over kind of fight. I know we will work through it but I'm sure things will be weird this week. Couldn't have been worse timing, I need her support this week more than ever. Adult siblings are not meant to live with each other, but for the next few months that is the situation. She and I usually get along very well, I know this will blow over. I guess I just needed to vent and be in a place where I know others understand how hArd this is. Tomorrow is a new day, I just Need to believe it and keep saying it!

    Marriage Problems 2 Mo. Out

While I am not married, I will share my thoughts from the perspective of a child who had parents go through this very thing. This child was in their early 20's, and understood that marriages are not always happy ever after. Mom started to engage in what she would call an "emotional affair". Do not be fooled, not having sex with someone does not make an affair ANY easier on your spouse or children, in fact it can make it worse. Sex is an instinctive thing, an animalistic impulse we all share. Feelings, however, are something we nurture, build and change. Mom ended up leaving the marriage, and engaging in a relationship with a man who also left his marriage. What was left was two families in constant turmoil. Trust issues, hatred, and partners left to wonder, "what did I do? Why couldn't we work on things?". The new relationship triggered an absolute tailspin in the lives of so many who were considered collateral damage. I am not telling you what to do, or not to do. BUT if you want to take this further PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider all of the other options first, counseling, speaking with your husband, working on your issues. If you can look yourself in the mirror and say you gave it your all, 110% and you just aren't in love, then divorce him. BUT don't divorce him for another man. That isn't fair to yourself, your husband or your children. As someone speaking from experience, your actions could have devastating results for those around you, for someone who gives you attention and understands your humor. It can cause damage you can't even begin to understand. Best of luck to you.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I have been having moments of nervousness as well. Waking up, various moments during the day. Just did all my shopping for pre op, have to get a few things for after surgery and then I am set. I am excited on how much money I will save the first few months on food. I didn't realize how much I spent on food!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

So happy you are joining us in December, I just know we are all going to help each other through this! I started out by only telling my immediate family. As I got closer to the date, I told my co-workers. I work as a nurse and heavily rely on my coworkers during the day to support me, physically, and emotionally as we help our patients. I decided because we see so much of each other, in and out of work, I would share it with them. They have been so supportive, even to the point where they are going to join me in my liquid lunch this week to show their support for me!! I love these girls and couldn't imaging not having their support. That being said, I am telling no one else. It is such a personal decision, and I don't want to deal with the comments, feelings, and what not of those who don't support me. I did tell one friend who absolutely does not support this, and sadly our friendship is fading fast. No one can tell you what to do as far as telling or not, it just has to feel right for you!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I start tomorrow and I just know I will have these cravings. My sister and I bet on how many times I break down and cry over food I can't have. Just in fun, not to make light of how difficult this will be! I also keep trying to rationalize the "it's only temporary, it's only temporary" as well. I am nervous about this, and I know that's just silly! Looking forward to surgery, I hope your pre op gets easier for you!!
  19. I hear there is a bit of a stomach bug going around....main symptom just happens to be a small appetite due to nausea. You can trust me, I'm a nurse Wink wink

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hello Everyone!! I had my final appointment today with my surgeon and nutritionist! I didn't have a weight goal before surgery, but I actually lost weight! I think it's the nerves and anxiety I am having as the date gets closer. I start my pre-op diet on Monday. 3 Protein shakes a day, plus Clear Liquids. I am dreading it, but I think I will make it!!
  21. Hello! I work in a busy primary care clinic where I'm running around all day. I took a week off, but have the option to take more off if I need it. The only reason I'm taking a short time is when I go back I will be phone triaging for awhile until I feel good again. Most nurses I have run across here take about 2-3 weeks on average. Hope that helps!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Can't believe how close we all are, December will be here before we know it. Nervous for my last appointment, I've gained weight since my first meeting with the surgeon, but there isn't a weight loss goal before surgery. I've been nervous eating since my date was established, working really hard on channeling that through something else!
  23. I find the weight loss requirement interesting because it varies so much from surgeon to surgeon. My surgeon and nutritionist have said nothing about weight loss before surgery. I meet with them Thursday for my last appointment so I might have a goal for my liquid diet. I have read and re-read all the literature the office has given me and no where do they want a weight loss. I see some people on here have a big requirement!
  24. My 10 year high school reunion is this summer. Probably since I have graduated, I have said I was not going. I keep in contact with many of my classmates through facebook, but I am so ashamed of what I look like. Each year the pounds have piled on. Now that I will be sleeved in December, and then 8 months later my reunion, I am starting to change my attitude. I think I may go! Does anyone else have an event after surgery you are looking forward to, or deciding to go because you want to show off a healthier you?
  25. Wow...as a person who works in the medical professional, I am appalled at his behavior with you. One of the very first things we learn going into medicine is you have to leave your personal crap at the door. We may not agree with a patients decision on a personal level, but that should not matter, we are there to be an advocate for patients in what THEY want to do with their healthcare decisions. IF it were me, I would absolutely write a letter. The CEO needs to have a chat with this physician, and let him know he is offending patients and making them feel uncomfortable. WLS is such a personal and for some agonizing decision, no one needs a pompous doctor who thinks he knows the right path for everyone making it even harder. Don't doubt yourself and your decision, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience!!
