    Anyone getting banded in Nov?

Welcome Forwardlooking! Congratulations on taking this step to get your weight and health under control. There is no weight shaming on these forums. We are here to support and encourage, not shame and tear down. I had my band installed on the 21st. I am 49 and on the morning of my surgery I weighed 369. Down nine... Thanks to my pre op diet. I Don't usually yak my stats in posts but they are in my public profile under my medical info.

    Timing

It's too bad that some surgeons are taking the fast, easy way with WLS. I can't believe that they don't want to offer all of the best possible options to their patients. Limiting the options to just a couple of surgeries is, in my opinion headed for disaster. Everyone is different... I chose my band for a long list of good reasons that apply to me after I thoroughly researched all of the options. We all should be able to do the same, health concerns allowing. Our bodies, our health care, our choice. Not what is the best choice for a surgeon trying to "push" a particular procedure for their own financial gain and convenience.

    Surgery Tuesday 11/26/13

Two days post op I was on Clear liquids. Most new bandsters are at that point. The post op diet is pretty meh but it exists for a reason. Your stomach has had a band placed around it and stitched into place. You must give it time to heal fully and properly. So my guess is no, spicy V8 and pureed spicy guacamole is not okay for you two days post op. If in doubt call your surgeon's office.
  7. Do some but don't push too hard Give your body time to heal and recover. You'll get there. Everyone progresses in their own time, this is not a competition.

You're on my list, thank you. I am in Arizona. Prescott, a largish "small" town north of the Phoenix Metro area. It pretty much sucks, here. The only reason why we stay, husband has a steady job with good benefits. Nothing to sneeze at in this economy! LOL I am also excited for us both. Sistah Bandstahs.

    New To The Forum

Welcome Rosetta! I am a new bandster, four days, today. Recovering well and learning how to hang with my new Silicone Friend. It sounds as if your band has been a great help to you and that you just need a little kickstart to get back on track. People on this forum are so helpful and supportive and will uplift and support you in your efforts to continue in your success and healthy lifestyle. I have found this forum and the wise words of so many of the members here invaluable. I have always wanted to visit Italy, maybe one day I will be lucky enough to be able to do so. Rome... florence... *sigh*

    Thanksgiving.....!?

Thanksgiving Day will be my first day of smushies, if I remember my chart, correctly. Since I am not cooking the feast, this year, husband and son units are going to sis in law's place for the big gobble. I will still have my staples and not be in the mood to truss up so I will most likely plead recovery (they know about my surgery, thanks to husband's big mouth ) and gracefully bow out of the day. I'll have my guy bring me home some mashed potatoes and a spot of gravy so I can have a taste of Turkey Day.

    So close!!!

There were no last minute treats for me. LOL I was on a three week pre op diet of Protein shakes and one lean and green meal a day. It was pretty hardcore and I stuck to it like glue. I did not want to run the risk of waking up after my surgery and hearing my surgeon telling me that he was sorry but my liver was too big and he couldn't place my band. I wouldn't have been happy.

Congrats, Oregon Rocks. We were banded on the same day. I started full liquids on day three. I only had to stick to clear for forty-eight hours. Funny how different docs have slightly different rules and procedures.
  15. Day two kicked my a*s, too. I was beat, all I wanted to do was sleep. Day three was better. I expect each day to get progressively better, going forward. Happy belated birthday! What a great gift to yourself.

    Tummy Talking

I am newly banded and beginning to hear my band whisper to me, from time to time. I imagine that as I get some restriction it'll really start talking.

    Liquid Diet Rules

I am third day out. I was restricted to clear liquids, only for 48 hours. I was allowed to transition to full liquids, today. A protein shake and a small bowl of tomato soup never tasted so lovely. I am planning to treat myself to a sugar free chocolate pudding, tomorrow. Party! Day seven I can go to smushies like Cream of Wheat, mashed potatoes and so on. Yeah...

    Post Op

I was banded on the 21st. Day one was a breeze. Day two kicked my a*s. I slept a lot and the Infernal A*s Hose is a plague. I read about people being constipated after this surgery, I got constipated after previous surgeries. This time... Yikes! I bought Miralax but I sure don't need it. Today I feel better. I got to transition from clear to full liquids. Coffee with creamer. A protein shake. I am looking forward to some cream soup and sugar free pudding, later. As far as pain goes, I don't have much. I took one dose of liquid Motrin on day one to knock down my shoulder pain. My heating pad works even better. My incisions and port site and surgical site overall is just discomfort. I haven't even cracked open my liquid Lortab. Don't need it. I just need to remember Mr. Porty and respect the spot. If I don't I get reminded. LOL
  22. I lost nine on my pre op. Weight loss isn't the primary focus of the pre op diet. Shrinking your liver is. Most people do lose on their pre op diets just by their very nature but I have read accounts of people who didn't lose weight but did get their band placed.
  23. Better call your surgeon's office and talk to them. Their main considerations will be fever and if your lungs are clear. At worst you will have to reschedule when you have recovered. They want to do surgery when you are in the best health possible to lower the risk of complications for you.

Thanks. I hope that your surgery went well.

    Anyone getting banded in Nov?

Congrats! We went the same day. Mine was a breeze. I have shoulder pain thanks to a surprise hiatal hernia repair. Bleck. liquid Motrin and a heating pad are helping with that nonsense. Otherwise I feel good. Mr. Porty is a bit grouchy so I have to be careful but... yeah. This isn't bad, at all. Cheers to you for a swift and uneventful recovery.
