  1. Bring sexy back you will do great!! Don't be scared its the best choice to get your life back! Bring ear plus and Chapstick to hospital. Also make sure u have pain mess at home. My doctor gave me Tylenol with coding if I didn't have something at my house i would have been much worse...honestly some gas' date='pain and back pain from laying so much....not bad at all, and day 3 and later you actually feel like a human again. You're entire life is about to change and be excited about it, don't be scared at all you will be fabulous!

Ps girls come fine me in Post Op thread labeled July 2012 Band buddies....already met a new friend tiger![/quote']

Thanks Sprinkle! You were with Dr. Reilly here in Houston, right? I'm with Dr. Hollis (Reilly's senior surgeon - same group). They aren't making me stay overnight - I'm to be released that afternoon to come home. I went for my pre-op appt with Dr. Hollis (first time I ever met him) last Wednesday and while I was initially really worried about the facility (it was at the surgical center on South Main Street - in the Medical Center - the True Results seemed like a not very nice mill, but I really liked Dr. Hollis. I met with him afterwards alone and he seemed to really listen and answered my questions. Were you overnight in the hospital? Glad to hear that you feel almost normal again. I just keep thinking to myself to go through with it on Wednesday and that hopefully this weekend I will feel better and be excited about this new chapter! Keep up the great progress and thanks for sharing your journey.

  2. Good Morning July Banders.......

Thought I would give a cliff note version of my experience....

17 days ago I started my pre-op diet (1.5 weeks before surgery) and a week ago (Jul 8) I was banded. In that 17 days I am down 23 lbs!!! YAY

Surgery went great and went home the nexy day. Wed I was sore and pretty much sat in a recliner and walked around the house a bit. On Thur (3 days post op) I went grocery shopping and cooked dinner....did the same on Friday! Starting Sat I felt very normal with the exception of the tenderness and swelling. Still have the swelling.

Today is 1 week and I am back to work. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to do this. Today I also start on full liquids.

I have to say I am fortunate....no nausea' date=' gagging and no problems getting my shakes and Water in.

Hoping all my friends on here have such a great experience. Happy Monday all.... Lisa[/quote']

Thanks for sharing this MsGal: I go in on Wednesday for my surgery and so many of these post-op stories are getting me nervous! I'm hoping my recovery is as great as yours is. Best to you that it stays that way!

  3. Hi all! I have PCOS too' date=' I was diagnosed 10 years ago when I started to have weird periods, facial hair, dry skin and gained 60 pounds. After 10 years of many failures trying to loose my extra weight, I decided to get banded 2 months ago because I'm planning to have a family soon and it was going to be extra hard with my weight. I was not that big when I got banded (BMI 31) but just thinking about all the failures trying to loose weight in the past makes me tired haha. Also I have insuline resistant, which is associated with PCOS. This disease really sucks but the doctor took all my meds away the day I got banded and my "cure" will be take all this extra weight off. So far so good :) and good luck to all if you![/quote']

Lolarose13 - Thank you for sharing your story with PCOS! Sound like my story - except I've been dealing with it for 20 years. My BMI is "relatively" low as well (31) and I'm "insulin resistant" AND I'm tired of being "fat". Its robbed 20 years of my life/history and I recently realized that I've removed myself from history in that I RARELY allow pictures of me for last 20 years because of the weight. I've heard others say that they've been able to get off all their PCOS meds and with the weight loss, they don't have PCOS anymore. I'm PRAYING that this works! I am SO fearful that it won't "work". I go for my first pre-op with my surgeon today (Wednesday) and I hope he can share some light on other patients in similar situation that have been successful. My surgery is next Wednesday (17th). So you had WLS two months ago - how is it going? How was it? How much have you lost? How much do you want to lose? Thanks for sharing!

  4. Thanks for the feedback. I'm starting pre-op diet tomorrow and surgery is on the 17th. I'm nervous but realize that I'm more nervous about it "not working" than having the surgery. I'm ready for that if that is what needs to happen to get me back to thin, but I have been struggling for 20 years (post my diagnosis with having PCOS) that it just makes me nervous. I know that is no way to think... but its the truth. I have my pre-Op appointment with Dr. Hollis on Wednesday. Very interested in this meeting!

  5. hunger pains are def there! I think that was the biggest misunderstanding about my surgery. Six days out and yesterday was terrible I have already gone through " what have I done" and " i wish I could take it back". I dont know if I am an exception but my pain has been very bad. The pain from the surgery is ok' date=' it can be handled but in combination with gas, back pain, and the pain of hunger (which I found out I have never experienced true hunger until now) it really has been a few days out of hell Tuesday and Wednesday all I did was cry. This might be because MY BODY isnt tolerating food well. I get pain just from drinking milk and chicken broth. I can literally only handle Isopure clear Protein drinks. I have been in so much pain my doctor prescribed more Lortab, I just picked that up yesterday and can feel an immediate difference. We all have different pain thresholds and it ight be that I am just a wussy. You wont feel any hunger pains after you get your first fill but that is 4-6 weeks AFTER you heal from surgery. Essentially my stomach cant handle food but still has the appetite from before surgery. Its a hard place to be in.... I am still trying to be excited for my band and think about the future but I really do hope this pain subsides soon[/quote']

Oh gosh! I'm sorry to hear that SOL. From what I've read, it doesn't seem like the pain you are experiencing is really the norm post-op (and gosh selfishly, I hope so!) I hope you are talking with your doctor a lot about it and not trying too hard to "tough it out" on your own. Please keep us posted on how you are doing... it sounds like today is showing a sign of improvement for you. I hope that continues for you.

  6. Hello everyone: This has been such an informative group. My surgery is scheduled for mid-July and I am reading a lot of recommendations on various posts about what helped post-surgery --- I was hoping for a concise list of items (i.e., heating pad, body pillow, liquid Tylenol, liquid Gas-X, sugar-free popsicles, etc). Anyone care to share what helped them the most post-surgery? Thank you in advance!

  7. I had him initially but changed to Dr. Hollis because of scheduling. My patient advocate had him and she say he was great

ReddFoxx: I just selected Dr. Hollis and my WLS is scheduled for July 17th. What was your experience like with him? What are you incisions like (large, clean, etc) - I picked him because he has 25+ years experience and also I hoped that after that many years his expertise is great and his scars are minimal. Thanks!

  8. Thank you both for sharing your stories with PCOS and your successes. I just read in a book where the WLS can reverse PCOS - which is so good to hear in that it has seemed like an uphill battle and "which came first" the PCOS or the weight. Clearly the weight but then I think it just became a vicious cycle. I'm hoping to lose 45-50 pounds and keep it off.... forever. It has robbed me of the last 20 years and I'm not about to let it rob me of any more. My surgery is scheduled for the 17th. I've proven to myself that I can do routine exercise (was even doing Crossfit five times per week) and eat well (Paleo lifestyle and cut "bad" carbs) - I just need this boost to get some results.

  9. Hello! I'm new to this forum and my surgery is scheduled for mid-July. I decided to do this after struggling with my weight for 20 years. When I was 23 (20 years ago), I "got" PCOS ("Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome") and gained 50-60 pounds in about 6 months (which is a typical symptom of when women initially "get" PCOS) and then more after that over the years (I think the extra weight was from depression and laziness stemming from the weight). Until PCOS, I had a great shape. The doctors didn't know much about PCOS then and it took about 6 years and 7 doctors to finally diagnose me correctly. Unfortunately, there is really nothing they can do for PCOS but "kind of" treat it (off-label) like Diabetes. I have tried every diet, potion, pill, etc over the 20 years and work out (aggressively) and my weight has fluctuated but my lowest is still was a good 40-50 pounds from where I "should" be. I've decided to do the LapBand after talking with a friend and seeing her amazing results. She is 3 years out and has lost (and kept off) about 80 pounds and looks AMAZING! Like a size 4/6?

I'm writing all of this to ask if anyone else on here has PCOS and if they have had success with weight loss post-WLS regardless of their PCOS. I have read that when/if you can lose the weight, the PCOS will be resolved.... but that is the Catch 22, isn't it? So if any of you ladies on here have any success stories regarding PCOS and WLS - I'd love to hear them. There is a small part of me that is doubtful that this will work given the last 20 years... but then again, I've never done anything this drastic either. The doctors seem to think I will lose the 40-50 I want to lose and quickly. I hope (and pray) so! Its funny - when I go to see the doctor, they keep saying that I'm "small" and that I have a "low BMI". Hum... weird to hear since I don't identify with that for the last 20 years.

Thanks in advance for any success you can share! This forum has been very informative and encouraging.

  10. I also had my surgery at True Results Houston by Dr. Hollis on November 28' date=' 2012. I have hit the goal they set for me for 12 months in less than 4. All I've done is follow their directions and I'm down 66lbs and hit "onderland" today! The follow up care is fantastic. I love the support. No worries they will give you more post-op information. Good luck to you all and keep us posted![/quote']

So great to read this! I just switched from Dr. Scarborough to Dr. Hollis. My surgery date is July 17th. I chose Hollis because he has so many years (+25) of experience. I'm hoping I have as great (and fast) results as you had. That is truly, very inspirational!

  11. I made an appointment with True Results on Friday and though I was REALLY WARY of going there (mainly because the commercials are so cheesy!), I am actually going to go with Dr. Hollis. It was between Dr. Hollis and Dr. Reilly (and both had great reviews on here from other people in other posts) but I chose Dr. Hollis just because he has 25+ years surgical experience among a bunch of other memberships/accolades. I was actually pleasantly surprised by True Results - they were all very nice, did a much more thorough exam of me that first appointment (EKG, physical, full medical history, blood work, breath test, etc) and I met with several people from my Patient Advocate (who had it done by Hollis 4 years ago) and a Nutritionist (who had it done 6 years ago) during my appointment and I just felt comfortable with the process. I had to move my scheduled surgery with Scarborough from July 15th to Hollis on July 17th - which wasn't bad at all. I just didn't want to move it too far back as I was already mentally prepared to have it done that week. Also, even though I'm self-pay they are going to check my insurance just to see if anything can be covered by them - which would be a nice treat. Not only were they more attentive and thorough at TR than Scarborough - its also a little less expensive ($9,888 vs $11,100 - which doesn't matter, I wouldn't make a surgical decision based on that small difference) but TR includes in their cost 12 monthly visits/fills whereas Scarborough only includes the first 90 days and that is just a "visit" not necessarily a "visit + a fill". TR just appeared to be more thorough and had better personal care than Scarborough. Thanks to this forum for giving me good tools to make me investigate/check out other doctors. I think I made the right choice. Now July 17th can't get here soon enough!

  12. Hello! I'm new here tonight. I scheduled my LapBand for 07.15. I'm nervous but ready for this to happen and to have a new start. I'm using Dr. Scarborough (Medical Center) - he's the only one I consulted with (recommended by my friend) but I'm hearing so many good things about TrueResults here... wondering if I should check out TrueResults first? I'm self pay ($11,100). Any tips? Any Houston LapBanders? Any July surgeries?
