I am scheduled to have my esophagus scoped this Friday. They are looking to see if I need to have my esophagus dilated. Up until now I've done extremely well where food is concerned. I could eat anything with no problems. I guess if they don't find anything I'll just have to change what I eat. Thanks for all the input it's been helpful!

I haven't had any kind of internal exam yet. I am scheduled for them to scope my esophagus on Friday. It sounds as if this may be a common issue. I guess if they don't find anything unusual I'll just have to change what I'm eating. Thanks for all of the input!

I was banded on 5/23/13 and I've had great success with weight loss. At least initially. I've got a 10cc band with 5 cc's of saline in it. I've been having problems swallowing things like chicken, rice and shrimp. My doctor thought it was weird that the food is stuck just trying to swallow but he drained my band for 3 weeks just to see if that was the cause. The swallowing problem got better but didn't go away altogether. The Dr didn't think it was related to the band and refilled it to 5 cc's and referred me to an ENT doctor. This Dr put me on meds for acid reflux, I've been on them for over a month but things only seem to have gotten worse.
My family doctor says sometimes when you restrict the stomach with the band the esophageal sphincter will constrict as well causing the swallowing problem. She suggested having a procedure to stretch the esophagus. My bariatric doctor says he's never heard of any such thing. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Thanks so much for sharing what you've found out. Hope everything goes well in October!

Thanks for the advice. I have a thyroid issue and my hair thinning began before surgery but has gotten worse. I pray it will eventually grow back.

Protein drinks are liquid! You shouldn't have any problem getting liquid down. Be patient and find things to distract the head hunger. I am literally sitting in my ass all day because I just had my hip replaced. Believe me' date=' I could eat 24 / 7, but you have to find ways to discipline yourself. If you are able to eat foods, make sure you really know what you are eating! Keep pushing forward. You will get past this.[/quote']
Yes I do realize Protein drinks are liquid. I was responding to a previous post by someone saying it took. Them 90 minutes to drink down one shake. I don't have that issue. My doctor said I'd lost 16 pounds at my appointment two weeks post op. he said that's not a pace I should expect to maintain considering he estimated I'd lose 43 a 60 pounds total. I am very happy about the weight loss but I thought the purpose of the band was to make me feel full on a small amount of food. I never feel full. Maybe that will come after I get a fill. I hope so.

Before my surgery the doctor told me I might not lose much weight the first month. Not until my first fill. I feel like I could still eat anything. I can get a Protein Shake down in no time at all. Don't get discouraged its a process and you don't want to rush things!

I was banded on 5/23 so I am 11 days post op. The 3 oz. of liquid per meal is just not keeping me full. I drink a lot of Water and have one Protein Shake a day. This morning I had 6 oz. of yogurt with no problem whatsoever. I'm tempted to move on to some soft foods a little early but I don't want to rush things. I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and how you are dealing with it.

Hello fellow bandsters! I'm new to the site and was banded yesterday' date=' May 30th. I'm having soreness near my incision sites, and it hurts to get up and down from sitting or laying down. Did any of you get bandages over steri strips? I'm afraid the bandage adhesive will pull the strips away, but the gauze looks nasty already. Any pointers?[/quote']I just had mine done on the 23rd. My doctor super-glued my incisions over and I just had band aids over them. I had a lot of soreness too, especially the large incision. I'm nine days out and the large incision is still a little sore but not very noticeable. I started feeling good on day four. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. This is one topic neither the doctor nor nutritionist covered.

Had surgery on May 28' date=' not really that much gas pain. Just a little pain at my port sight. Today is my last day on clears start full liquid tomorrow. Walking three time a day doing blocks in the neighborhood. My sore throat has passed just ready to see the weight fall off!![/quote']You are doing good! The only walking I've been doing is around my house and sometimes the yard. Don't get,too aggressive though. On day five I was feeling great and did some shopping and I must have lifted too much. My side ached and I had to take a couple more doses of pain meds. It's been a week from my surgery and I'm feeling really good today.

Hi all, I just had my surgery on May 23rd. I've been on the liquid diet for two weeks now (one week before surgery and one week after) and I've only had one bowel movement since surgery. Is this normal?
Does anyone else get food stuck in their throat?

It gets stuck right behind my thyroid (where my Adam's apple would be if I were a man. Originally I'd thought mt thyroid was swollen and causing an obstruction. So it doesn't get down very far at all. In fact if I just stick out my tongue the food comes back up. Sorry if that's TMI.
