    3 month vitamin blood test

This is good news! Congrats! I think my clinic holds off on cholesterol tests until the one year follow up. I read that a lot of patients cholesterol tends to rise after surgery due to cholesterol being stored in fat, so as your body purges fat during weight loss, so it's expected that it can rise for some months, I'm not exactly sure how long until you settle in to your "real" actual cholesterol level.

    Post op sleeping

I'm twelve days post op and I slept in my bed from the first night that I came home. I'm usually a side sleeper, so for the first six or so nights I slept on my back with pillows propping me up. To get out of bed, the physical therapist at my hospital taught me the log roll technique. So I had no issues. It also helps to have an abdominal binder on when you get out of bed or out of a chair in the beginning, and it helps with walking. I wore mine for the first week and then removed it for good.

    Binder? Or shapewear

A binder is sufficient for after wls, it's only there to provide comfort with moving mostly. Shapewear is used after skin removal surgery.

    New to site

Hi and welcome to the forums Steve 👋. Pre op diets vary. Some can only have liquids and others can have a small meal once a day on their pre op diets. I was allowed to have a small meal, so to me pre op diet wasn't so bad. I feel like my post op diet is harder because it's three weeks of liquids only. It's pretty extreme as far as post op diets go. So along with the weakness of recovering from surgery, only having liquids is tough imo. The struggle is worth it tho. You'll do fabulous! Best wishes on your surgery and journey!
  5. I can speak to this from personal experience. Please reconsider getting a Lap Band. I had one and it didn't turn out well. There's way better weight loss options available than Lap Band.
  6. A heating pad and Gas X to help with the gas pains.

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

Oh I was hoping for the same. It really depends on what your insurance requirements are and what your surgeon or clinic requires. My insurance only required six visits with my clinic and I've been a patient there for 4 years, so technically I had already met the insurance requirements... BUT the clinic required a pre op info session, psych eval, and various lab tests. Time passed quickly tho. I think it took me about five months from first appointment for revision until surgery day. Best wishes!

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

Yes, I had to meet all of the insurance and my clinics requirements for revision.

    Sleeve or Bypass Regrets?

I regret getting a Lap Band. Today is my first day waking up with a Bypass. So I can't say for sure how I'd rate it so far. It's been coined the Gold Standard of weight loss surgeries and I hope to find out soon why that is! Best wishes to you!

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

I just had my revision to Bypass yesterday! (Lap Band removed last April due to GERD) Best wishes to you on your surgery!

    Introducing Myself- I'm new

This video will help explain the science behind stalls.

    Introducing Myself- I'm new

Hi! 👋 Welcome to the forums and yeah stalls suck, but it's a part of the process. Trust the process and stay on your plan. This too shall pass.

    Help with Vitamins

I agree with the above posters. Usually your Dietician will give you info about what your clinic wants you to take. My clinic is pretty basic on supplements. A bariatric vitamin twice daily, plus two 500 mg of calcium citrate, and the one thing they're different than most about is monthly B12 injections for the first year post op. Plus depending on your labwork post op, your vitamin/supplement regimen may change. Iron often has to be adjusted. Currently I take Bariatric Fusion chewables, but they're pretty gross. 🤢 I feel like I'll be switching to capsules very soon post op. I'm going to try Once Daily Bariatric Choice multivitamins. Any one else try these yet?

Favorite sugar free and other low calorie sauces

I've tried the G Hughes Sweet and Spicy bbq sauce and the Sweet Vinegarette salad dressing. Both are delicious imo.

    Bariatric Tampa

I love TGH as a whole. I've been going there for years and have seen different doctors for different things and have never had a bad experienece. Yeah since I was already an established patient, I think I probably had less pre op testing to do. Like EGD. I had one before my band was removed, so she said I didn't need another. Also it would depend on what specialists you're seeing. So for example, if you have cardiac issues, you may be required to not only get cardiac clearance from the cardiologist, TGH may require a stress test as part of their clearance. It took me 5 1/2 months to complete everything from first appointment until surgery date. A lot of it has to do with what your insurance requires in order to meet in order to get approved for surgery. Some require supervised weight loss. It varies from provider to provider. I would say start the process tomorrow. Call and sign up for their virtual patient info session. That's the first thing you will do. Best wishes!

    Bariatric Tampa

I'm a patient of Dr. Ashley Mooney at TGH Bariatrics. She's amazing! She removed my Lap Band last year and will be doing my revision to RNY in nine days.

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

Research Post-VSG/Sleeve GERD. It's a well known somewhat common side effect of the high pressure wls's. If a person develops GERD it sort of forces you to revise to RNY just to have a decent quality of life without GERD.

I hate protein drinks! Any protein pills?

I use the Premier Protein peach drinks and now I like the Fairlife protein shakes. They taste like milk. Flavored milk actually, but not as sweet as commerical flavored milks. The thing about Fairlife is, it's ultra filtered, so it filters out the excess sugars and lactose in milk. So there's no weird whey powders or that sort of egg protein in it. I love them all.
  22. I truly hope you find answers very soon! Teaching hospitals truly love to help those with challenging cases, because there's always resident physicians there eager to learn every atypical case out there. They're often at the forefront of the latest techniques and even do their own trial studies. Best wishes! 💜

    Sleeve to bypass hopefully

I feel the exact same way about my Lap Band. I regret the choice I made now, since it caused damage to my esophagus and horrendus GERD. I wish I would've chosen Bypass from the beginning so I would've had a much better quality of life and perhaps even reached my goal weight years ago.

St Petersburg /Tampa and Area plastic surgeon

Check into Dr. Lauren Kuykendall. She's a professor with USF Plastics, and operates at TGH. Her prices are reasonable and she did my fleur de lis, and she'll be doing all of my other plastics. She's wonderful, caring and knows what she's doing. Another surgeon there that I've heard good things about is Dr. David Smith. Not sure if he's still operating or just doing his professor duties at this time tho. Best Wishes!
  25. I'm sorry to read about what your husband and you, as his caregiver and health advocate are going through. I have no advice about the issues he's going through, but it sounds like you need a second opinion. I would head to an ER of a teaching hospital, one that hopefully has a bariatric program. My bariatric surgeon is a professor and operates at a teaching hospital. And she sees patients who haven't been helped by "regular" bariatric surgeons. If you were to take him to an ER that is a part of a teaching hospital with a local university, they will likely admit him and call in their bariatric/neuro teams and whatever other specialists that they deem necessary. It's worth a try. Keep us updated on his progress. I Googled and https://www.umc.edu/ has a bariatric program. Not sure how far away you are from Jackson tho. I wish you and him the best!
