Surgery next week, need vitamin help

I couldn't choose which vitamins to take. The Dietician recommended Bariatric Fusion Complete. And if I want to try something else, she has to approve it. So this vitamin that I take, you chew two in the morning and two at night. And that's it. It's complete. I asked her about the ProCare Chewables with Iron... she said I would take one chewable plus I would have to take calcium citrate chews 2-3 times a day beginning a few hours after the vitamin, and also the calcium has to be spaced out throughout the day. Your body can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time and you can't take it at the same time as you take any supplement containing iron. So I decided to stick with the Bariatric Fusion Complete, because it's easy and I don't have to buy extra calcium. It seems like less of my life would be revolving around supplements all day long too. So the regimen column is indicating how many vitamin chewables you take, then how many calcium chews you have to take also. B12 is included in the multivitamin.

Looking for some opinions on this...

It's really hard to say what will be the best choice for you until you get closer to goal weight or the weight you level out at. One thing to take into consideration is the diastasis recti muscle. That muscle is often separated due to pregnancies and or obesity. If that muscle is separated, it will be very noticeable once you lose weight and once the excess skin is removed. If you Google diastasis recti, you will see for yourself what it looks like. Then imagine removing all of the skin the way a panni does. That's what you'll be left with post panni (this is only if you have a separated diastasi recti) so it's all theoretical at this point. So with a panni only, it's possible to have a flatter lower abdomen, but a protruding area right down the midline. As far as lipo goes, I've never heard of lipo being added to a panniculectomy, because generally speaking, panni's aren't a sculpting type of plastic surgery. It only removes excess skin. Tummy tucks usually always include some lipo, even if it's only gentle feathering. Because tummy tucks also include muscle tightening, so it's a sculpting type of plastic surgery. So lipo is used to let's say, sculpt the flanks, etc for more shape and definition. My PS is one of the professors at the local university, so her fees aren't as pricey as a PS in private practice. She operates at the best hospital in my county and since she's a professor, she has a lot of residents coming and going during her surgeries because it's a teaching hosptial. So her fees are less. She did my fleur de lis but submitted to insurance for a panniculectomy and she didn't charge me anything further. You might find a surgeon willing to do the same. I would say keep researching and learn all you can now, but know that until you get closer to goal and consult with a PS it'll be difficult to say what direction you should go in. You might have an intact diastasis recti and a panni is the only thing you will need. You never know until you see where you land on the other side of weight loss. P.S... Real Self is a great site to research plastic surgery procedures. You can read patient stories and see pics, and see fees and reviews of the surgeons. I wish you the best on your journey!
  4. My case is going for review next Thursday so I'm hoping for a date some time after that. Maybe late May or June.

    Revision Supervised Weight Loss Question

I'm pretty sure I've seen people on here that have had revision due to GERD and were at or close to a normal BMI and I don't think they were self pay. I hope they see this thread and chime in. Best wishes!
  6. I hope you get good information from the surgeon and begin a pathway to revision and improved health! GERD sucks, I suffered with it for years and I'm awaiting revision from Band to Bypass now. Best wishes!

    Eating terrible closer to surgery

I think "food funerals" are pretty much customary for most people in the weeks before surgery/pre op diet. As long as you have control to get back to where you should be, you'll be fine.

    Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet

Thank you, I really do try! You'll get through this, and when you do, you'll be stronger when you do have surgery. 🤗

    Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet

I'm sorry you're going through this. But I'm happy that your surgeons office reached out to you and hopefully you'll get some answers soon. If you do have to cancel or postpone surgery, in order to get answers, it might be a good thing. You wouldn't want to deal with these issues when you're fresh out of surgery. I hope you feel better soon, and maybe the limited diet will ease your symptoms. Best wishes. 🤗

    Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet

Yeah this isn't a normal reaction to preop diet. Reach out to your team, and perhaps even the psychologist that works with your surgeon. I hope you feel better soon! 🤗

    Help with protein

Yeah same here. I mean I probably saw it at some point and passed right by it while I was grabbing regular cream cheese, lol.

    Help with protein

I would suggest you eat it with a spoon. You're two weeks post op. It's too soon for veggies, chips and crackers aren't a good idea nutrition wise and I doubt they're on your approved foods list.

    Help with protein

I don't even remember seeing this.

    Help with protein

Well it's not completely fat free, I guess it's more like reduced fat. Philly Neufchatel cheese. It says 1/3 less fat. Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help with protein

What about making fresh chicken breast for salad or other recipes? I never use canned chicken either. I find the texture is gross as well, so I always make my own for recipes. Ground beef? You could add ground beef to something like Ricotta Bake, for a modified version.

    Help with protein

Are you taking a PPI? Sometimes the excess acid can cause nausea. Also surgeons often prescribe anti-nausea meds for those experiencing prolonged nausea. I like Fairlife protein drinks. I find they're less sweet and artificial tasting than the others I've tried. Also there's clear protein drinks like Protein2o, Isopure clear protein in fruit flavors, Gatorade also makes one that is sugar free and has protein. So with these you'll get fluids and protein at the same time. Isopure also makes an unflavored protein powder that you can add to foods like soups or drinks. Could you swap the tuna for chicken and make chicken salad? If you like spicy things, you could make a lower fat version of buffalo chicken dip with fat free cream cheese and use the hidden valley ranch packet instead of bottled dressing along with canned chicken and hot sauce.

What are Bariatric capsules made from?

Correct. That's my understanding. That's the exact reasoning for using gelatin based capsules for bariatric capsulated medications.

What are Bariatric capsules made from?

    You're quite welcome!
  24. I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡

What are Bariatric capsules made from?

The difference between bariatric friendly capsules vs the standard type is that bariatric capsules are vegan (made from gelatin) non-bariatric type capsules aren't vegan and made from collagen. Depending on which surgery you choose, for instance, in gastric bypass, the capsule passes through the pouch and straight into the intestine, thereby bypassing the remnant stomach where the stomach acid is produced, and where the capsule would begin digestion. They prescribe medicines that are FDA approved. Because they're familiar with them because of the studies and probably for liability purposes also. Supplements and natural drugs aren't FDA approved so they steer clear. I would say that doctors in North America are largely trained in western medicine and western medicine has a large emphasis on pharmaceuticals, of course. You would probably have to find a Naturopathic doctor that is more familiar with natural medicines if you're set on taking natural therapies. Traditional Western doctors just aren't trained in that type of medicine.

    Poor Blood Panel Results :(

I understand your frustration with the possibility of delays regarding your surgery date. But don't blame yourself, if you do indeed have PCOS, it's not your fault. PCOS causes lots of hormonal issues which in turn causes abnormal lab results. So be gentle with yourself. I'm not sure what your height and weight is, but if you are diagnosed with PCOS, it will help get insurance approval if you don't have other comorbidities. Your journey to surgery and a healthier life may have taken a slight detour, but stick with the program and you will get to the finish line. That's what matters most of all. You can do this! Best wishes on your journey!
