    pain medication

You may be surprised that you might not even need anything strong. My hospital does TAP blocks for abdominal surgeries now and that cuts down on the pain for the first 48 hours post surgery. So I never need meds after. Just as @Arabesque said, the most annoying part is the gas pains. The surgical pain wasn't a thing for me. I never took narcotics after any of my recent surgeries. Ask if they use TAP blocks. It's a peripheral nerve block.

    Bypass but with keto

Eating higher protein will throw you right out of ketosis. You have to really watch your macros to stay in ketosis and the only way of knowing if you're in ketosis is to test for ketones.

    Bypass but with keto

True keto is high fat, moderate protein, low carb or ultra low carb. So I think most bariatric patients don't really hit the actual macros to be considered real keto. We're told to do lower fat, higher protein and complex carbs only if we're still hungry after we eat our protein and veggies - well that's a generalization, it does vary widely. But I think weight loss patients do low carb if anything at all but very few do actual keto.

    Regrets...anyone?

I just had lunch today with my friend who has VSG and she literally said the exact same thing!
  7. I actually lost some weight when I had mine removed. I was able to eat healthier foods that my band wouldn't allow. It really hindered healthy eating for me. And all of the years that I lived with GERD because I was afraid to remove it for fear that I would gain weight... after it was removed and I lost weight, I wanted to kick myself for not removing it sooner.
  8. Ha, they sold it to us as a permanent weight loss procedure, but it's the biggest medical joke ever imo, lol. It should've never been cleared by the FDA. It causes more harm than good.
  9. As a former Lap Band patient I understand exactly what you're trying to explain. It could be esophageal dysmotility. My band was always tighter in the morning and during that time of month. I had a Mirena placed, and that helped a lot. Are you considering band removal and revision surgery?

Are you asleep during gastric sleeve or sedation

I'm not sure about medical tourism surgeries in other countries, but in the US we're under general anesthesia. I've never heard of any other type of asesthesia used for this type of surery.

    Kept it Quiet?

Welcome aboard! 👋 Everyone around me knows. My family is super close, and yes they're supportive and wonderful. It's something you have to decide for yourself, because only you can predict how those around you might react. When the weight starts coming off and there's a dramatic difference, people will start to ask questions. So at some point people are probably going to find out. You just have to decide if it's better to tell them before or after. Will delaying telling them make them more upset (they might feel betrayed for you not confiding} or will seeing your weight loss prevent them from making negative comments (they won't be able to say it's just another diet to fail when they see your progress)? I have a friend that had VSG in Mexico two years ago and she only told her husband and kids, and she went alone due to Covid. When she came back, some months later she told me, or rather showed me. We finally met for coffee and I didn't recognize her. I was shocked, but in a good way. We didn't get together that year until the end of summer, due to Covid. I was the only friend she told about her surgery, since I was a weight loss patient, she knew I would understand and support her. And she still hasn't told anyone else. Sure people ask questions about why she eats such tiny amounts, and I don't think they buy her "I'm just not hungry" line now, lol. They probably suspect, but they never bring it up. Best wishes!

    Utter regret

I think you read her post wrong. "Every time I ate, I was in pain."

    Regrets...anyone?

Yeah friends on here used to be a bigger thing years ago when there was a chat room. The entire community was closer knit than it is now. I miss the way BP used to be. I'm sorry to hear about your band troubles. They sound much like mine. The second process is coming along nicely. I started the process in February and I will be cleared for surgery after my dietitian appointment next week. Then my case goes before review, then I get an appointment with the surgeon and a tentative surgery date. It's looking like some time in May. GERD is under control at the moment due to Protonix and I've not gained any weight since band removal, I've actually lost a bit. Best wishes!

Pre Op Liquid Diet starts tomorrow

It gets easier. After a few days your body adapts to fewer calories. My first pre op diet was the most difficult, the second one was easier. I'll let you know how the third goes in a few weeks, lol.

So what protein shakes does your team recommend after surgery? The same ones or lower carb/higher protein shakes?

    Foamies

I saw this a couple days ago. A bariatric surgeons take on the foamies and how to "treat" it.

    Regrets...anyone?

I'm post op Lap Band removal, but pre op for Gastric Bypass. I suppose I regret not having it removed sooner instead of living with GERD for several years. I mean I lost a lot of weight with its help, but I regret not making a better choice when I chose Lap Band. I was trying to go the less invasive route, but it never led me down a path that allowed me to lose all of the weight I wanted to, then GERD happened. I never thought I was a candidate for Gastric Bypass due to certain health issues. But then GERD forced my hand to consider it, and well... here I am pre op for RNY, so I sort of feel the same way Pollito does, I wish I would've made a change sooner rather than wait. Life may have been different for me for the last ten or so years.

    Surgery

Yeah the gas pains are the worst part imo. Moving helps. I walked a lot and change positions; from the recliner, lay in bed a while, and warm showers seemed to help too.
