    Scars & port

Aw this is kind of a bummer! I'm not yet banded but like many was looking forward to being able to sport a bikini in a couple years and if the port's that visible I guess that won't be happening

    I find myself hating children

My family used to belong to the Y and there were always a lot of teenagers around, one of the main reasons I never went because I always felt that they were judging me! Now I've accepted that there are always going to be people to judge you for something so I just don't care anymore, but I now go to Gold's Gym Express, and it's a super nice gym and I've never seen any kids there. College students, yes, but everyone just does their own thing and nobody's loud or anything. Plus it's only $10 a month!
  3. I just scheduled my surgery for June 21st (yay!!) but now I'm getting worried about the post-op. The nurse I just spoke to told me you're supposed to wait 3-4 weeks before climbing stairs and I live in an upstairs apartment! I'm going to be staying at my parents house for a week but then after that I will have to climb stairs just to get to my apartment. Is this doable? After explaining the situation to the nurse she said I could probably do it after a week and just go really slow but it would probably be painful. I can't be the only one who had to climb stairs after surgery, right?!
  4. Thanks everybody! That makes me feel a lot better about getting back to normal after surgery!!

    June surgery date

Congratulations! I also have a June date, just scheduled mine this morning for the 21st of June. So excited!!
  7. This may be a post-op question but since I'm pre-op and the answer to this question is a deciding factor in my surgery date I decided to post it here! I just got approved last week and am very excited to get my band, but am worried about how soon I will be able to go back to school. I am in college 3 hours away from my parents house (and where my dr's office and hospital are) and have classes all summer long that I can't really miss. Since I only have one class on Fridays and none on Thursdays, I was hoping to schedule my surgery for a Thursday and then go back to my school on Sunday evening and classes on Monday. Is this realistic? Mondays and wednesdays I have class from 8-5 with a 1 hour break at 12, so I was wondering if that might be uncomfortable? I will definitely ask my doctor all of this when I go for a pre-op appointment but I didn't want to get my hopes up if my expectations are unrealistic. If I can't do that I will have to wait until August when I have a 1 week break before fall semester. I really wanted to have my surgery in early June so have the summer to adjust but I definitely don't want to be in pain all day in class, either. Sorry for the novel!!
  8. First of all, I just got my approval letter from my insurance company yesterday!! I'm so excited to get this started and have already done my initial consultation and blood work and all of that. Now I'm thinking ahead to the preop diet, and mine is 2 protein shakes a day and one high protein, low carb meal (I'm doing mine through True Results). They gave a list of a few different protein shakes they recommend but what are some that taste good and are actually filling? I know I can stick to the diet even though it'll be hard but it'll be a lot easier if the shakes actually keep you full for a while!
  9. Thanks everybody! The two I was thinking about were premier protein from costco and the bariatric advantage, so maybe I'll get some of both and see which one I like best before I actually start the pre-op diet. Amine I also have been eating the Smart One's meals for lunches and I like them a lot! I didn't think they would keep me full because I've tried Lean Cuisine's before but the Smart One's are a lot better!

    I really miss diet soda!

I've quit before and didn't crave it but then I ended up going back to it and I'm more addicted to diet coke now than ever before! I just got approved for the band this week so I'm kind of having everything I know I won't be able to have once I start the pre-op diet and get the band and that's probably bad but it's working for me! I'm realizing that I don't even like the bad food (especially fast food) once I order it and am eating it but for some reason when I'm hungry I always want that first. Now when I'm hungry I'm actually thinking about what food I'm wanting and remembering that I don't even really like it when I get it! Soda is another story though...I'll just have to quit cold turkey! It is pretty scary hearing that it's as addictive as smoking and I definitely believe it!
  11. Did anyone not tell anybody? I'm in the process of getting approved and will get my band sometime this summer, but I've only told one person. She's a friend of mine and happened to say something about her aunt who was banded so I felt comfortable telling her. My mom is very unsupportive about anything regarding my weight loss, though, and my sister is a dietician and very judgmental. I don't want to tell them, and as of right now plan of having the surgery without telling anyone except for that one friend. She has expressed interest in the process of me getting it and has always been supportive. My insurance also requires me to stay overnight the day of my surgery, so I was planning on driving myself home from the hospital and just going on about my life. Has anyone else done this?
