I'm 7 months post Lap Band and they found a hiatal hernia during a fill appt. I know most people have these fixed during Lap Band surgery. I did not get hernia until months after surgery. Anyone else have a similar experience?
-
I started with bmi 32 as well and I'm only down 12 lbs. slowwww.
-
I did have Plication done.
-
I asked if it had to be repaired and Dr said yes, otherwise my pouch is not working correctly :/
The thought of another surgery upsets me.

I was banded in May. At my last fill they saw something unusual on X-ray so I had Egd (endoscopy) and they found I now have a hiatal hernia. I've heard of a lot of people having hernia repaired during lap band surgery but has anyone experienced hernia AFTER lap band. Did they repair your hernia laparoscopically? What was recovery time? When can I return to work? Dr said they would unbuckle band during surgery and buckle it back during surgery. He said I would feel different restriction after hernia repaired. Anyone else have this?

I had my surgery May 2013 as well. I have lost minimal weight and yet I have over 8cc in my band. I don't yet feel the restriction either. And I struggle with my food choices. But after talking to a lady yesterday she said she got fills the entire first year postop, every month. She didn't start to see results until she was 6 months postop. We can't give up yet!!!!

The Dr noticed the contrast was going around the band. They changed the view on the flouro and said it looked normal. Another Dr looked at pics and said I better get a scope to look for possible erosion. I was shocked. I have had no pain, no acid reflux, no problems. This was my 9th fill, I have not had good restriction but it has improved with each fill.
At this point I'm worried they will find some erosion and remove the band. Then what??

I was I was banded may 2013. I went for a fill today done under fluoroscopy During fill Dr said something didn't look right and that I needed to have upper scope, Egd for possible erosion. I have not had any problems. Can anyone give any advice?

I agree with y'all!! I told the Dr I prefer not to take the med. I was shocked when he said it. I told him I didn't want to start it because I didn't want to deal with trying to get back off phentermine. I agree, I got the band so I wouldn't have to take a med like this. At this point finding a new Dr is not simple, I'm self-pay and I don't want to lose what I have invested at this office until I get all my fills.

I had Lap Band with Plication May 9th. Since the surgery I've only lost 8 lbs. (my starting weight was 185). Today I had my 4th fill, total of 6.25cc in my band. I told my Dr my current weight loss was minimal, I don't feel any restriction. He gave me a prescription for Phentermine appetite suppressant to "jump start" my weight loss. He also said this fill should put me near the green zone. Has anyone else had their Dr prescribe Phentermine 3 months after surgery?

I had Lap Band May 9th and I've only lost 10 lbs. I have had 3 fills and I feel no restriction. There is currently 4.5cc in my band. So discouraged.

Hi ladies, my big day is this fri the 21st & I'm petrified! I see you're all recently banded. Any last minute advice or tips?? Can you ladies please share how was your experience right after surgery & the first couple of days following? I'm so afraid of the pain right after!! Any feed back would be greatly appreciated! Hope you're all healing well & best of luck!!
I was banded 6 weeks ago. I too was scared of the postop pain, I had never had surgery before. But I felt good postop, went home within 2 hours of surgery. I took a nap and then started walking. Next day I was more sore but tolerable. I felt better when I was up and walking than in the bed. Walk, walk, walk! I did experience pain in my left shoulder about 5 days postop and continued for another week. Finally went away. I had a very good experience.

What is going on I got banded on may 8 2013 . My weight was 206 and now it's 187 that is only 19 lb off . I am doing everything I always feel hungry and I got my first fill at 4cc ' date=' I don't feel any restriction at ALL omg I feel like I never got banded .. My next fill is on July 19 ...[/quote']I'm the same as you! I was banded May 9, 2013. I finally had first fill last week, 3cc. I've lost total of 10 lb. My next fill is July 10th. I feel no restriction. I'm focusing on drinking Water, eating lots of Protein and healthy Snacks to keep me full. And I'm walking.
Everyone tells me to be patient and that we WILL reach the green zone. Six weeks postop with only 10 lb loss is discouraging when I hear of others losing 30+ in no time at all. But I can't compare myself to everyone else.
Hang in there!! Keep doing what your dr instructed.

That is gas pain, they inflate your abdomen with CO2 during surgery in order to do procedure laparosically. Gas in left shoulder is very common. I had the gas in my left shoulder after about 4 days postop, and it's worse after drinking or after eating. It will get better! Took mine 10-14 days to go away. It will pass.

I'm healed and on regular foods. I'm waiting on my first fill, not satisfied with anything. Any tips Missy?

I'm 4 weeks postop. As I've healed I feel no restriction. I did well staying under 1,000 calories at first, then I was able to stay around 1,000 calories. But now it's getting harder and harder, yesterday I had 1,600. Little disappointed myself. Trying to stay positive until my first fill next week! And I started walking this week, just 30 minutes a day.

I'm a recovery room nurse, it is common after surgery to have a metallic taste from anesthesia. Very normal. Another thing to consider is you are probably not drinking as much, so you may be a little dehydrated. Also, you are probably taking in large amounts of Protein but not carbs so that can cause you to have bad breath (ketosis). If your urine is dark that is an indicator that you need to drink more Water. Hope this helps!

I live near Ft Worth but I was banded May 9th. I'm waiting for my first fill so I'm hungry :/ I don't feel like I'm making good choices with food. Would love to stay in touch by email for support.

dietdirect.com. They have a bunch of bariatric stuff in there. I bought the BariWise ones and so far so good except for the "straw=-kiwi" one. There are 7 in a box and are approx. 11. A bit pricey but worth it. Your doctor's office should have some too but will probably be more expensive than buying online.Thank you! I'm hungry, waiting for first fill.

I'm 3 weeks postop and 10 days away from my first fill. As I've healed I find myself getting more and more hungry, especially between meals. It scares me because I'm still 10 days from a fill. I'm trying to be patient and focus on Protein until my first fill. I'm so hungry I feel like I'm not losing. Is this normal?? I had Lap Band with Gastric Plication so I thought the Plication (folding and stitching of stomach) would at least give me restriction at this point but I'm hungry!
-
Hope you are feeling good. I'm now 2 weeks postop and feel really good. Getting hungrier, won't have my first fill until June 10th. Focusing on eating Protein and veggies.

I'm glad you posted the pic. It's a learning lesson for me as a new postop band patient.
Glad you are feeling better! I hope the positive comments outweigh all the negative ones. Best wishes!
