    Being stuck?

I was banded 6 weeks ago, received my first fill yesterday. Had my first stuck episode today. I was told I could have soft foods today from 2 different stages of my post op diet progression. I had a bite of deli turkey meat. My first mistake was I that I was eating on the go. Took too big of a bite and obviously didn't chew it as long as I needed to. OMG....the pain the center of my chest! I had asked my nutritionist yesterday what to do if I get stuck she said I could try a drink to see if that would help push it through. Big mistake. Once I took a sip, I then started foaming. I walked around, I leaned on the counter and tried going about my business. Things started to feel a little better so about 30 minutes later I took a sip of tea and the pain came back along with the PBs. I dealt with it for over an hour and a half before it finally subsided. I debated on whether to call for an unfill, which I really didn't want, but it finally settled on its own. Back to liquids for me the rest of the day. Too scared to try anything else right now. I took for granted how well I could handle things prior to my first fill. I will do whatever I can to prevent that again.
  2. Had my first stuck episode today and it was just like Maddysgram described.Worst pain imagainable in the center of my chest. I took a sip to try to wash it down and what a mistake, next thing I knew I was foaming. Had some esophageal spasms that lasted about 1 1/2 hours after. Lesson learned! Don't want to do that again.

    Why am I not hungry?

After a couple days on the preop diet I was no longer hungry as well. I had my 3 Protein shakes a day and did my best to force down the 64 oz of Fluid. Other than that, I didn't worry about it too much. I thought I would have the opposite affect on liquids as well, but was surprised.

    fever..

Hopefully it's nothing, but if you spike a fever again I'd call, it never hurts to call. mine told me for the first 3 weeks if I had a fever over 101 to call the office. Feel better soon!

    What vegetables.....

I've done ok with raw broccoli and raw carrots....just remember to chew and chew some more. I've also done cucumbers, peppers, and sugar snap peas without any problems.

    Pre-op diet

Just take it one day at a time! Sugar free pospicles were my savior, I like the sugar free bomb pops, you can crunch on them so you get the chew factor. By day 3, not much sounded good anymore and I wasn't very hungry, but then again, I only had to do it for 5 days. You can do this!

    How to sleep?

I slept in my bed too! I slept in my normal positions side to side and back. When on my sides I tucked a pillow between the bed and my side to help support my belly to keep tension from pulling on the port and did just fine.
  9. The anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist have a lot of training and experience and know what they are doing. They are monitoring you very closely throughout the entire procedure. They have to document your vital signs (Heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation) every 5 minutes throughout the procedure. They give you a dose of a med called versed when they come get you which has a very calming affect and for some makes it so you don't remember much. Once you are in the operating room they put Patches on your chest to monitor your heartrate, put a blood pressure cuff on your arm and an oxygen saturation probe on your finger. (they are good at telling you what they are doing each step of the way). Then they drift you off to sleep. The next thing you know you are in recovery and it's all over with. You will do just fine and it's completely normal to be nervous about surgery. Here's to a speedy recovery!
  10. I was just curious of what everyone wears when they weight themselves? In the past I have always worn similar light weight clothing. This morning I happened to step on the scale before I got into the shower, while I was still wearing my nightgown and then again once I got dressed and was surprised to see almost a 5 pound difference. When I had done weight watchers before, I always thought it was funny when people would come in and strip down to the shortest shorts and sports bras for weigh in! In my mind I figured it is best to go with clothes on, similar to what I would wear to the doctors office for the "official" weigh in to keep from being too disappointed in the variance. Maybe this is another reason that it's time to go get some new clothes that aren't so baggy and so I won't need a belt to keep my pants up!
  11. I'm six weeks in, noticed it in my face first. Then my chest, the one part of my body I was ok with! I recommend before surgery taking measurments. I remeasured last night and was surprised to see I am down 25 inches total since surgery. My arms though appear a little thinner to me, measured the same. The scale may not move very much, but the measurements reaffirm that you are losing!
  12. I've used shakeology in the past (not during my lapband process). I had to doctor it up a lot to tolerate it and it's pretty expensive. It didn't meet the requirements my nutritionist gave to me. Another flavored "water" Protein that I like, that someone here turned me to, is New whey, comes in grape, watermelon, and fruit punch. It has 42 gm protein per 4 ounces. It's very thick and kind of strong, so I dilute 2 oz in 20 oz of Water and it's really good. Something different from the shakes.
  13. I would check with your nutritionist and see what they recommend. Mine gave me certain parameters that I had to follow. <200 calories < 15 gms carbs <5 gms sugars >15 gms Protein If they can give you some recommendations of content it would open up some possiblities. Everyone has different tastes and it takes some experimenting to find what's going to work for you. I would wonder if he only wants a certain brand if he's getting a kickback from that company. Good luck.

    Using food scale

    I measure after cooking.

    Unjury Question..

Have you tried mixing it with crystal lite? I think it needs a stronger flavor to drown out the taste, though I can still taste it in almost anything I put it in. My nutritionist recommended mixing some in jello, I haven't tried that though.

    Exercise

Sounds like you know what you need to do, just need the motivation to do it. You've done it before, you can do it again. Exercise is something that you need to schedule each day, just like a meeting. Maybe find a buddy to walk with to help keep you accountable? As far as lunches, I prefer to brown bag it so I know what I am getting. When we have left overs, I package it up for lunches as I am putting things away. Measuring as I go. This way it's easy to grab and go.
  17. What you are feeling is perfectly normal. Even the first week post surgery I was thinking 'what the heck have I done?" But now over a month out, the scale numbers are starting to get smaller, I am off my blood pressure medication and last night I bought a pair of pants that were 3 sizes smaller than the ones I walked into the store wearing (only reason they stayed on was due to my tightly cinched belt). It was definitely the right thing for me to do. I would never have made it to this point without the band. The thought of surgery is scary stuff, but you I'm sure you didn't make this decision lightly. A lot of thought and consideration went into it. You've come too far to let it slip through your hands. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing it. If you need to, write it down so you can see it as often as needed. You will do just fine. Good luck!
  18. They didn't bother me too much until I was post op and started getting hungry again, I always had to walk away when the commercials came on. Good luck to you!

    Question

My nutritionist did not limit me, as long as it was liquid. I munched on 2-3 sf popsicles just so I could actually chew something.
  20. So tonight I decided it was time to go do some shopping (which I absolutely hate). All of my clothes are getting a bit big and baggy. So I ran into JC Penny's and started walking over to the area where I normally shop. They have rearranged the store a bit and I think I looked a little lost. One of the sales clerks asked if she could help me and she showed me where the womans section was. I started walking in that direction and she told me "I think you are going the wrong way". I said excuse me? and she said "you don't belong in that section". I thanked her and told her I had been working on losing weight and I wasn't sure what size I currently needed and started to walk back over to the womans section. She cut me off and told me "no, I'm not letting you go over there, you need to look in this section over here." I'm sure the look on my face was something like, you are crazy. She told me to shop in this other area and try to prove her wrong. The good news is I couldn't! I was ready to go back and give her a big hug.

    PCOS diagnosis

I've got PCOS and had the lapband. I've lost 40 pounds since I started the process last October. I can't tell you if my cycles became more regulated as I had a hysterectomy almost 6 years ago. My doctor told me that my PCOS would likely resolve with weightloss.
  22. I've had the same problem, entered mine about a dozen times and it won't stay!
  23. I tripped up the stairs about 2 weeks post op and strained my belly, ended up with tenderness for a few days. You've probably pulled the muscle the port is stitched to and it may be a little swollen. Maybe try and icebag to the belly for a bit...I liked that post op. Bring it up with your doc tomorrow. Good Luck! I have another 2 weeks (total of 6) before I am eligible for my first fill.
  24. Good luck everyone! You're going to do just fine. Take it one day at a time.
