Complete 2nd Pro-Op Meeting w/ Surgeon
I can't believe how fast time is going by. I just seems like yesterday I was looking into getting the band and now it's just a few days away. The meeting with my surgeon went well other than he said I have a hiatal hernia that he will be repairing when he puts in my band. Will this add recovery time? Other then the hernia he said everything is looking good for my surgery on Tuesday morning. I will be on the "other" side here in a few days. I am so excited for this new tool.

Found out tonight, this is one journey I will have to conquor on my own
I am having the same issue with my boyfriend. He LOVES to eat out. If his wallet would handle it he would eat out every meal every day. I am currently on day six of my two week liquid diet and he has gone out everyday. It's hard to go out to eat and either just drink water or bring a protein shake with me. If I don't go out to eat with him he gets offended and acts like I don't want to do anything with him. I do have other supporters but the one I live with and spend the most time with doesn't want to budge on his eating habits to help with mine. This is something I am doing for myself it would be nice to have supporters in my home. Good luck with everything.

Pre-Op High Protein Liquid Diet
Thanks everyone for the replies. Today is day two of the two week liquid diet. Last night I didn't finish all of my protein shake so I put it in the fridge overnight. This morning stirred it up and surprisingly it actually tasted ok.

Pre-Op High Protein Liquid Diet
Today has been really rough. I didn't realize that this liquid diet would be so challenging. Today was my first day and I almost wanted to cheat and eat something that I am not supposed to. My BIGGEST concern is getting enough grams of protein. I am supposed to have 80-150 grams of protein a day. I am at 24 grams (2-8 oz. shakes) right now and I cannot get myself to drink anymore of these protein shakes... I've tried several different flavors and brands and I cannot get past the taste. Is there an alternative way to get the protein I need? I am going to call my dietician tomorrow to see what she suggests. My Pre-Op High Protein Diet consists of protein shakes, sf jello, water, ice chips, fat free/low sodium broth, and sugar free popsicles. These next two weeks are going to test my limits. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

Hernia repair
I just had my EGD this morning and was told that I had a hiatal hernia. They said it wouldn't interfer with me getting the lapband and that they would repair it during my procedure.

Just wanted to introduce myself and say HELLO :)
Hey, Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a 28-year-old full time college student finishing up my degree in Elementary Education. I've been battling with my weight since I was about 10 years old. My weight has caused many problems in my life and I see it getting worse as I get older. I come from a family were both of my parents are morbidly obese. I've been thinking about getting the Lap Band for about a year now but wanted to try other options before I went with one that is so drastic. Like almost everyone else on this forum I've tried every type of weight loss pill, exercise, program, etc. out there. In the beginning of March (2013) I hit my highest weight of 225.6 lbs. I am only 5'3" so this is A LOT of weight for my size. I can barely squeeze into a size 18 pants. That day I said, "I've had enough!" I quickly went to Innovative Weight Loss Solutions at Geary Community Hospital and learned about my weight loss options. After deciding that the band was the right option for me I learned that my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas) wouldn't cover the procedure. This quickly put a damper on my decision. Fortunately for me my grandparents are loaning me the money to cover the surgery. They know that this new, "tool" will help with my weight loss. I've paid for the surgery, completed all of the paper work, attended a mandatory informational meeting, and met with a psychologist and a nutritionist. The next step on my journey is to meet the surgeon and set up a surgery date. As the days go by I have quit several of my bad eating habits. This includes my daily large sweet tea from McDonalds and my daily fast food lunch. These changes as well as going to the gym on a regular basis have helped me lose a few pounds. Ideally, I would like to go into surgery weighing around 200 pounds. My goal weight is 125-130 lbs. or a size 6 whichever one comes first. The weight loss and size is important but most of all I want to be happy and healthy. Thanks for taking the time to read my introduction post. I’ve been checking out these forums for about a month now and have learned a lot about the band. I hope to gain more knowledge and some friends along the way.
