  1. I am in Melbourne Australia. I had my surgery last Monday 12th November (afternoon surgery) in recovery by 4.45pm, back to my room by around 8.15 ( purely because of busy staff and time) I was attached to my "best friend" morphine button, relief on demand... Oh wow, what a wonderful thing. Every time I could feel the deferred shoulder pain start to emerge, I push the button - almost instant relief!

Day 2 (Tuesday) still on saline drip for fluids, having trouble taking anything, even Water, so ice cubes were it. I was up and walking first thing, feeling not to badly, Until my breaky tray appeared. This was not good, this was a set back as it made me feel quite nauseous. Anti nausea Medication for this seemed to work a little. Nothing to "eat or drink" for Tuesday.

Day 3 (Wednesday) up and about again, still definitely not fussed with the meal trays, but trying harder to get the fluids in via ice blocks and water and flat lemonade, going along ok. The morph button (IV) was removed today, a sad parting, but probably for the best. The shoulder pain was controlled by some IV panadole, not quite as good, but hey, it worked eventually. The IV needle in my wrist area, was quite sore, so it was removed as I still had another IV in further up my arm, that wasn't being used. This one would not flush clear, so it was also removed. HOORAY, I was free!!!! Wednesday night was a "nightmare" in my room, so much noise from the staff and incoming new patients (at 11-35PM!!) the rest of the night, I was in a very disturbed sleep.

Day 4 ( Thursday) My doctor was in quite early on this day, suggesting I could go home! THIS WAS MUSIC TO MY EARS!! I was originally told it would prob be Friday! I was out of there by 9.45am , on my way home! Trying to keep up my fluids, resting ( in a quiet environment) was going well. I tried the solvable panadole, but just couldn't get it down. So I used a heat pack to relieve the shoulder pain when it happened. No more pain relief. Getting in more fluids each day. sleeping better. I was on the road to recovery.

Day 5 (Friday) Today, I had some very watery Soup, - a full cup, sipped from a teaspoon over the course of the whole day. I never felt hungry at any time. Fluids going in much better today. Shoulder pain subsiding. Headaches disappearing, as I was more hydrated.

Day 6 (Saturday) much the same as Friday, only, I able to get more fluids in. Flat lemonade, cup of tea and today I vitamised a can if chicken and veg soup, which I watered down with boiling water. This went down well. Any Soups or heavier fluids I am taking, do take me forever to get down, but that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy to be able to do this without any bad affects. Oh and I also started to have frosty fruit icy poles today too, these are good!

Day 7 (Sunday) one week down and 3kgs (approx 6.6lbs) down, since my surgery. Total lost since I saw my doctor to book this date (9th oct 2012) - 10 kgs (22lbs) ... No need for painkillers ! I AM VERY HAPPY with how this is going! LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE, TO HAVE A LONG AND HEALTHY ONE, to enjoy my beautiful granddaughter and family. This was a very good decision to make.

  2. Well it's here...November 12th....my new birthday! Sitting in the waiting room ready to start my new life. Surgery is scheduled for 1 and I'm actually surprised I'm not more nervous. I feel very peaceful and calm. Good luck to you all getting sleeves today!

Hi CJ's how did u go? I had mine done last Monday also...so far - so good!

  3. I know what you mean. Christmas is an eating day from start to finish...an endurance event. There is just no way I will be able to do what I used to :) Having thought about it for a little while' date=' I decided to have three things I wanted to have a little of over Christmas - for me, it is prawn (singular, lol), potato salad and trifle. Now I don't care if I can only have one or a small spoon of each but as long as I get these three things, I'll be a happy camper :)

Does anyone else have anything they don't wanna miss out on for Chrissy??[/quote']

Yes, definitely.....oyster, prawn, lobster, ham AND CRACKLING!!!!!

  4. No' date=' I have never been banded. I just couldn't get comfortable with it for some reason. But quite happy to have most of my stomach removed - go figure! I'm sorry to hear you had problems with yours :( my mother and sister have been banded with no problems (yet), but I have a cousin who had a slippage and know of several others with problems. One is on her 3rd band!! And yet m & s seem to think I'm extreme by going this route. I'll take my chances.

There is another thread for Aus sleevers, which seems to be the go-to for us. Have you seen it? I'm glad to have another Aussie to go through this at the same time :)[/quote']

Hi, I'm not sure if I have seen that other thread, which one is it? I have registered with a couple ( I think- as I always seem to get overseas comments)

  5. Well it's all done and I'm home. Op Monday afternoon' date=' went well. Two full extra days in Hosp..( I really don't like hospitals!) had great difficulty drinking anything, so mainly sucked on ice. When the first "meal" tray came out, it turned what stomach I had left...couldn't eat anything...back to the ice blocks! Yesterday (thursday) Had a very pleasant visit from my surgeon saying I could go home, couldn't get out quick enough. Since I've been home ( just on 24hrs now) I have been able to drink more than I could in hospital. Still feeling quite sore on wound sites. Have to cough often, because of a silly throat tickle, which isn't much fun. Have been able to have, Up n Go, a cup of tea and drink some "flat lemonade", so all in all not too bad, oh and also pin Water. the shoulder pain is a "pain" but I can't stand the dissolvable panadole, so use a heat pack, have also been having quite a few headaches, but that will hopefully stop as I'm now able to drink more! See post op nurse next thurs for removal of staples and drain bag, so I'm sure I will be moving much better after they are all gone. Was slightly disappointed with the scales though, came home weighing the same as I went to Hosp. ????? That was weird as I've not had much at all go into my body. Hopefully things will start changing on that front soon.[/quote']

  8. TODAY is the day! Just having my cup of tea, banana Optifast shake and some Water ( to help hydrate my veins) nothing to eat or drink after 7.00am... Sometime after midday I will have my sleeve!!!! Feeling somewhat nervy still but really can't wait until I am on the road to recovery to a new and healthier ME! Weight ( on my scales) pre 2 week Optifast 98.5. Weight this morning after 2 weeks of Optifast 91.5!!!!! Will also weigh in on hosp scales, as mine are a couple kgs different, but they will be my gauge once im home....Sure do hope this is a sign of what's to come!

Good luck and best wishes to anyone else going in today... I'll be at Knox private, so if ur there too, we might meet! (Debbie S)

  9. Hey guys' date='

Just wanted to share some pics, cuz we all love it when others share pics! :). This is my first time sharing photos, aside from my avatar. I'm 9 months out of surgery as of yesterday, and initially, I was having my hubby take pictures every month. I kinda fell off over the summer, but finally remembered to have him snap a few this morning. I cried a little when I put the 'before' and 'after' side by side. I was self pay, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Rejoicing over here!! Woot!

p.s. not sure if I'm doing this right, so hopefully there are pictures here!
