Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Good for losing 3.6 lbs! I think you might have even better results sticking to band size portions (not that 3.6 lbs isn't awesome!). As for me, today was a little difficult. I had the family over to enjoy the pool and we grilled dinner. I went over a little on my carbs, and its my low carb day, so I hope i didn't do too much damage. I knew better than to put out "snack" food. I'm such a muncher. So my stats for today were: Low Carb Day Calories: 716 Carbs: 43 Fat: 38 Protein: 81 Too high on carbs and not enough fat. I'm kinda mad at myself, but then again, I'm not. Back in the day I would have ate recklessly, so I'm proud of having restraint and listening to my band, even if I wasn't perfect today.
  2. Typically its 3/4 to 1 cup of food per meal, but check with your doctor.

    Protein Shakes

I drink the pre-made EAS Protein shakes when I'm in a hurry, or I use the Six Star Whey Isolate which I get from Walmart. It has 30 grams of protein per scoop. The flavor I use is the Decadent Chocolate and mix it with 8 oz. almond milk and 1 1/2 tsp. of peanut butter, or PB2. YUM!
  4. I either "sigh" or "hiccup". Also, make sure you're measuring everything. If you're eating the correct amount, you shouldn't reach the point of being in pain. I learned this lesson all to well But to clarify, I don't always sigh or hiccup. So measure, chew chew and chew.

    24 hrs....

Congrats! You're going to do great. I was scared the day before also. Actually, I was scared up until the moment they knocked me out. Then the next thing I knew, I was awake and my new life had begun. Remember to get sugar free popsicles. They were a life saver for me the first couple days. My throat was really sore from the tube they put down it. Just follow your doctors instructions and come here for support. All will be well and your journey to a brand new healthy you will be the best thing you've ever done for yourself!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

It sure does. Yes, I don't plan on staying on this too long. Maybe just this week, but two weeks would be the max.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Apparently I have no self control when it comes to the scale. I got on it again this morning and I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm down 4 lbs in 2 days!!! Seriously?!? I still can't believe it. I've been stalled for a month and now the scale is finally moving, and its moving at a good pace. Thank you so much Missy for sharing this! I was starting to get frustrated and was beginning to feel like I was failing my band, but now I feel confident that I CAN lose this weight. I had my band surgery in January, and 5 more pounds will put me at my halfway point. I might make it there this week if I keep losing at this rate! Thank you thank you thank you!!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I know! I was so excited to see the scale drop. It hasn't moved in a month! I'm not going to adjust my ticker yet, though. My scheduled weigh day is Thursday (since I was banded on a Thursday). I'm kind of funny that way. I won't record a weight change until my scheduled weigh day. I like consistency . You don't think my carbs were still a little low? I was determined to get it over 100, and that's when the Skinny Cow came in play. It was 29 carbs and only 2 grams of fat! Oh and it was yummy too

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Today was my high carb day. I feel like I have eaten way too much food! Breakfast: Protein shake Snacks: Apple & a Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich (just for the carbs!) Lunch: English muffin topped with ham and smoked gouda Dinner: Pork loin, 1/4 c. basmati and wild rice, 1/4 c. zuccini & onions sauteed in a tad of olive oil Total count for the day: Calories: 1005 Carbs: 117 Fat: 26 Protein: 84 I really surprised myself and found that increasing my carbs was more difficult than I thought it would be. Before banded, I lived off carbs. I hope I got enough in though to keep my furnace burning. I also went to the gym today and had a good cardio session. Tomorrow is going to be a little more difficult, I think. I'm having my family over for swimming and a barbeque. We're grilling steaks and I'm also going to do some roasted veggies and potatoes. No potatoes for me though, its my low carb day, and I love potatoes I peeked at the scale this morning and I was down 2 lbs. So yippee!!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Thanks for the suggestions. And yes, we absolutely need to tweak it for a bandster lifestyle. I actually did put peanut butter in my Protein Shake, but I only put 1 1/2 tsp in, so the carb amt was only 2 grams . I assumed I would need more than that, so that's why I had the pita chips and hummus later (it was also a good excuse to have some, since they are my new addiction) Today is my high carb day and low fat, so instead of using peanut butter, I'm going to use PB2. I've heard wonderful things about PB2, so I had my hubby drive me all over town yesterday to 5 different stores before I found it...lol You can also get it online, but I was being impatient  It has 1 gram of fat for 1 tbsp., 3 grams of carbs, and 23 cals. I may have some toast a little later after my band loosens, to up my carbs a bit. Not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of the day to up my carbs. Perhaps a potato with dinner.
  11. Started carb-cycling; today is my low carb day. I'm excited to see the results of my first week!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Thanks Missy! I've come across several of your comments on several other threads and I truly value your opinion. You have done so well and seem to be such a caring person. I'm excited to see how carb cycling works for me. I'll let you guys know!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Thanks! I just recently tried Hummus for the first time and now I'm hooked. Half of my carbs came from the pita chips (18g), but it was well worth it. Tomorrow is high carb day. I love carbs, so it should be an easier day for me. That being said, today wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. Oh and I can't eat 30 mins. after I wake because of medications I take. And when I can finally have something, I have to have liquids, because my band is way too tight in the morning to eat solids. So I ate my carbs (pita chips) as a morning snack. I don't think that will hinder this program...I hope.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I know I said I was going to start this a couple weeks ago, but things happened and I wasn't able to start. So today I finally started. Low carb day for me. This is how it went: Breakfast: Protein shake Snack: Pita Chips and Hummus Lunch: Chicken Salad Dinner: Lean ground beef patty with low fat smoked gouda and 1/4 avocado Total count for the day: Calories: 846 Carbs: 38 Fat: 42 Protein: 84 So, I think I did pretty good. What do you guys think? Any advice/tips are appreciated. I'm so ready to break this plateau. I've been stuck at this weight for almost a month now.
  15. I've been using the EAS Advantedge pre-made protein shakes, but I'm getting very bored with them. I have one every day for breakfast since that's about all I can get down first thing in the morning. I'm looking for a protein powder that tastes good, or has no taste, so I can add some variety in my shakes . Some recipes would be helpful as well

    Butterfinger Protein Shake

Do you have the link? I'd love to look through them.

    Please help ASAP!

Yes, call your surgeon. In the meantime, try sucking on some ice chips or sugar free popsicles.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Yes there are some recipes. I haven't really got that far in the book yet, so I just skimmed through them.
  19. hockeywife91

What brand of protein drink/powder do you use?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to try them.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I've been reading the book and I'm definitely going to start this on Thursday. I figure by then, I'll be done with the book and will have my shopping list made out. I've already done my shopping for this week, so today isn't really a good day for me to start, especially since it Mother' Day. This sounds very doable, and I'm looking forward to seeing the scale move again. I had gained a couple pounds this past week, but have already dropped that this weekend, so I'm ready to keep on losing ...no more gains for me !
  21. I was banded on Jan. 10, 2013 and so far I've been doing pretty darn good. I had one mild set back a couple weeks ago when I had my fill and I was too tight, so my doctor had to do a slight unfill. The first week or so after my unfill, I was doing great, I wasn't hungry and felt very satisfied when I ate. However, the past 3 days I have been really struggling to eat right. I'm not sure if I'm just not getting enough to eat, or maybe I'm just head hungry. I've been staying between 600 - 900 calories a day, but I'm beginning to wonder if that's enough. The past 3 days I've eaten 1000 - 1200 calories and I have gained 2 lbs! I have also felt really tired this week and have had to give myself some serious talks to get myself motivated to exercise. So I'm curious, how many calories does everyone else eat? What do you do to stay motivated when you feel you're beginning to lose control?

How many calories do you eat in a day?

I also may need to increase my calories a little. As I said before, a typical day (minus bday celebrations) for me is usually between 600-900 a day. Maybe that's why I'm not losing.
  23. hockeywife91

    Anyone else have hiccups?

Yes, I sometimes hiccup when I've hit my soft stop. Or I'll sigh. Then I know its time to stop eating.

How many calories do you eat in a day?

I log everything I eat in My Fitness Pal. Yesterday we had a birthday celebration for a co-worker at Breakfast. I had 2 slices of bacon for the first time since being banded. Since I didn't know exact brands, I chose general items. Perhaps it was off more than I thought. Also, I tend to swell really bad if I'm not careful with my sodium intake and/or exercise. Obviously I need to be more careful. This is why I hate eating in social situations or eating out. You just can't be certain exactly what you're eating. Missy, I read on another board where you were carb cycling. I bought the book and started reading it today. I might give that a go next week if the scale doesn't start moving again. I love this site. I have learned so much on here from everyone. I'm not a huge fan of My Fitness Pal because everyone there seems to be so judgmental about people who have had WLS, so I just log my food there and stay off their boards. I come here for advice!

    Protein Bars

I just got back from GNC and purchased my first Quest bars. I bought 5 different flavors and I'm looking forward to trying them. The lady at GNC told me that the Quest bars are their most popular bars. I also heard if you put the cookie dough one in the microwave for a few seconds, it is heavenly. I'm going to try that tonight!
