    baby spoons and small bowls

I use a baby spoon, a Hors D'oeuvres fork and a 1 ounce shot glass to drink out of LOL I'm only 11 days out and this helps me with portion control. Per my doctors instructions, I'm to have 1 ounce every 15 minutes, so this helps me.

    Why Band to Sleeve?

I was banded Jan 10, 2013. I lost about 50 lbs but could never get any further than that and started gaining it back. I gained 12 lbs before I went to see my doctor. I had issues with being too tight, then too loose and numerous stuck episodes. We'd put .5cc's in and take .25cc's out and still have issues. I just got frustrated with it and was miserable not being able to eat without puking aferwards. I knew that the risks of having a slippage were increasing every time I threw up, so I talked to my doctor about revising to the sleeve. I'm self-paid, so there weren't any issues, however, he did tell me that even if my insurance covered it, there wouldn't be any issue about my BMI being too low now that we are doing a revision. So if your insurance covered the band, it will most likely cover the revision. I'm only 11 days post-op and I feel so much better now than I ever did with the band
  5. I really cannot express the anger I got in reading your friends comments, which are so narrow-minded and proves she is uneducated about WLS. This isn't about her. It's about you! And I am so proud of you for standing up and doing what is right for YOU! No one knows better than you what goes on inside your body/mind and how difficult it is for you. WLS surgery is not about cosmetics, its about health first. The cosmetic part of it is just a bonus. We do not have eating disorders because of it. We learn to eat differently, we learn to eat HEALTHY and we eat smaller portions. You will do great and you will gain new friends who will support you through this. Whatever you do, do NOT let your so-called friend change your mind or create doubt. Just keep coming here for support. We are all here for you.

    New sleeve!

I'm almost 2 weeks post op (surgery date 5/14) and my doctor recommends 30 grams of Protein by the 2 week mark. He realizes how difficult it is to get down 60 grams of protein in the beginning and doesn't want me to force it. He says get as much in as possible and try to aim for 30 grams by 2 weeks. After that, I'm to keep increasing until I get to the 60 gram goal. The shakes are thick so they're pretty hard to go down. I've learned that if I drink them very slowly (1 ounce every 15 mins), it goes down a little better. I'll drink half in the morning and half later in the day. Have you tried any of the flavored waters or crystal light? I prefer those over plain Water. Tastes better and is a little less boring.

    So thirsty and in pain

Here is a list of the full liquids my doctor gave me to choose from. Remember, everything is in 1 ounce increments every fifteen minutes, alternating full liquid with Water. In other words, have 1 ounce Soup, wait 15 minutes, have 1 ounce water and so on. 1. Skim Milk 2. Cream Soups, strained 3. sugar free Instant Breakfast (blue box) 4. Low-sugar Protein shake 5. Custard, sugar free, made with skim milk 6. Yogurt, sugar free (light), without fruit or nuts 7. puddings, sugar free 8. Cream of wheat or rice, farina, grits Goal is to hit 30 grams of protein by 2 weeks out. You got this! Just hang in there.

    So thirsty and in pain

I was only on clear liquids for 2 days. Now I'm on full liquids for 3 weeks, then pureed for 3 weeks, then soft foods for 1 - 2 weeks, then regular/solid foods after that.

    Band to Sleeve Post-Op Vitamins?!?!?

I would check with your doctor to see if you're even supposed to be taking Vitamins yet, which may be why they're making you sick. I had my band to sleeve revision on the 14th and I'm not allowed to take any vitamins until my 2 week post op appt on Tuesday. And then, it supposed to be in liquid form since I'm on liquids only for 3 weeks. Your post op instructions may be different, but just a thought.

    So thirsty and in pain

I'm drinking Protein drinks, lots of Water - mostly flavored with crystal light; I also like the Propel Zero flavored waters. I'm eating a lot of Soups, nothing with solid food in them though. Creamy potato, tomato, cream of chicken, broths, etc. I can have sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, low fat yogurt. I basically eat a little of all of those mentioned throughout the day to change things up, but I concentrate mostly on my water. I even have a sheet that I use where I check off the number of waters I'm drinking just to be certain I'm getting enough hydration. I'm not up to 64 ounces yet, but I'm working on it. Its difficult when you're only drinking/eating 1 ounce every 15 minutes. Hang in there, you're going to do great. It's tough in the beginning, but you'll get through it and it will so be worth it!

    So thirsty and in pain

Is scrambled eggs on your post op diet? I would be careful eating any solid foods this early after your surgery. Your body needs time to heal. I had my sleeve on the 14th and I'm on liquids for 3 weeks, then I go to pureed for another 3 weeks before I can even attempt to eat solid food. Please be careful and follow your doctors instructions. I know all doctors post op instructions are different, I just think eating eggs less than a week after surgery may be pushing it a bit. The thirst does get easier, but you have to be diligent in drinking every 15 mins. Per my doctors instructions, I am to have 1 ounce of liquids (whether it be Soup, Water, sf pudding or sf popsicles etc) every 15 mins. I hope this helps. Hang in there. It does get better and you did not make a mistake

Looking for a Houston, texas group

For those of you who live on the north side of town, or those who don't mind traveling a bit, there is a support group that meets the first and 3rd Thursday of every month at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands at 7pm in the conference center. The group is ran by the bariatric nurse there and its an awesome group of people. We often have guest speakers, which is very informative. Last time we had a representative from Celebrate vitamins, the time before that, was a personal trainer, sometimes one of the bariatric doctors will come in and discuss any concerns or questions the group may have. I go to almost every meeting, depending on work. It's not just for banded patients either, its for all bariatric patients.

    Who Got Stuck For Thanksgiving?

I didn't get stuck on Thanksgiving, but Friday and Saturday were horrible. Everything I tried to eat got stuck. Today I'm sticking to liquids and mushies to try to settle things down.

    Surgery is Monday

Being nervous is normal, but you're going to do great! I had mine in January and I have absolutely no regrets.

    Green Zone already?

Congrats on being in the green zone! I go in for my 3rd fill on Monday. I'm really hoping that I get in the green zone. I was doing good for a while but the past month or so has been a struggle for me. I'm finding myself being tempted more and more with the "bad" things. Some days I feel very satisfied and have no problem with the "tempting" foods, but other days I'm starving and it makes it so hard to stay on track. I'm 5 months out and was hoping to be a little further along than I am, but that's not to say that I'm not proud of what I have accomplished thus far, just wishing it was a little better
  19. hockeywife91

    Too tight advice

It sounds to me like you need a slight unfill. I had the same problem back in April and ended up having 1/2 a cc taken out. It made a HUGE difference. Please call your doctor, you should be able to eat small amounts of food without getting sick.
  20. Have been feeling quite alone.

    baby back ribs

I weigh mine before I eat them, then I weigh the bones after I've eaten the meat and come up with my ounces. I can usually only eat two of them, sometimes three. It all depends on how much meat is on the bone.

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Don't be discouraged. Maybe your body just needs a little time to adjust and its "hanging" on to every calorie. The book does say it could take up to 2 weeks to start seeing a loss on the scale. I started last Saturday also and weighed myself this morning and I am down 5 lbs., so it does work. Just hang in there

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I'm sorry I forgot to ask....Missy, how are you feeling? I know that you had surgery and that you were going to start carb cycling again. I hope you are feeling better and that the carb cycling is helping you get rid of your water weight!

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

I had a very long and stressful day today at work. It took everything I had in me not to raid my co-workers candy jar for chocolate! Overall I think I did pretty good. 14 carbs were from cashews (to prevent me from eating the chocolate) Low Carb Day: Calories: 854 Carbs: 37 Fat: 54 Protein: 93

Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!

Well today was day 4 for me and a high carb day. I seem to find these days more difficult, which is odd, because I love carbs. I guess with my new band life, I have learned to eliminate a lot of carbs from my diet and I guess I'm having a hard time reintroducing them. I also had a hard time keeping my fat down today, which also resulted in me keeping my Protein on the low side. I didn't do bad, but it wasn't as great as I had wanted it to be. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, low carb day. High Carb Day Calories: 1001 Carbs: 114 Fat: 36 Protein: 61
